Oggi Restaurant Review
Overall Rating: 5/5 Outstanding Service: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5
On Sunday, January 30th, my wife and I, along with two of our best friends, were passing by Grimsby, and decided to have an early dinner. The restaurant that we were going to was closed for a private party. Luckily, we met someone on the street who recommended Oggi — and we are so glad that they did.
When we got to Oggi it was around 4:15 pm, and the restaurant was closed. A man, who was waiting by the door, told us that the restaurant would open at 5:00. It turned out that the man by the door was Chris, the chef at Oggi. Chris generously and unexpectedly let us in, and told us that he would take care of us. We were led into a small private room with a few tables and a fireplace. Chris gave us some menus, changed into his chef’s apron and his backward baseball cap, and brought us water and fresh homemade bread — which was delicious. We ordered a vegetarian pizza as an appetizer, and left it up to Chris to decide on the vegetables, as long as it had mushrooms. When Chris brought the pizza, all four of us were blown away. We all agreed that it was one of the best pizzas that we have ever had.
In the meantime, Chris had phoned Alyssa, one of the servers and had asked her if she could come in early to help him out. Alyssa arrived just in time, as we were finishing the pizza, to take our wine and main entree order. She recommended pasta Alfredo with the lobster tail or jumbo shrimp ($55 each). We decided to go with Alyssa’s recommendation and ordered two main dishes of the pasta with the lobster tails to share, and an extra order of jumbo shrimp on the side. The portions were incredibly generous, and absolutely delicious. There was no way that each of us could have had and finished one main dish. In fact, our friends took some of their leftover pasta home.
Although we were full and totally satisfied, we couldn’t pass up the dessert. My wife and I ordered the double chocolate cake, while our friends ordered the cheesecake. Both were delicious, but the chocolate cake was truly extraordinary.
Thank you to Chris and Alyssa for making our meal at Oggi truly special, extraordinary and memorable. If Chris hadn’t been so kind and generous in letting us in early, and Alyssa for agreeing to come in early, we would have missed out on a spectacular experience and culinary adventure.
Finally, thanks to Pat, the owner of Oggi, for passing by to say hello and for hiring two exceptional employees,...
Read moreWe purchased a voucher from WagJag for a three course dinner for two. Our friends also purchased one of the vouchers. We dined on August 11, 2025 in their outdoor patio. The patio is very nice and we enjoyed sitting outside. Our appetizer was Bruschetta and it was VERY GOOD. This was a shareable appetizer which was part of the package. For our next course three of us ordered the Fettuccine with a 6 ounce lobster tail. The fettuccine had very little sauce and was tasteless. It almost tasted like they used canned mushroom soup to make the sauce. The lobster tail was served nicely but again with no spices and not even butter drizzled on top. The three of us were very disappointed and the majority of our dinner went back to the kitchen. One of the party ordered the veal scallopini served with noodles. The veal was very tough and very well done. Noodles were very dry and again no flavour. His dish also went back to the kitchen with very little gone from the plate. Our dessert, one per couple to share was tasty. Also all four of us got one glass of wine with the voucher. Getting the bill was a real challenge. The waitress advised there were issue will the vouchers each time someone came into the restaurant and used them. We finally got our bill which totalled the sales tax and of course we each added a tip for our waitress as she did a good job. When we paid the bill we advised her that we were very unhappy with our meal. She advised that she would advise the chef. Our voucher also included a $25.00 gift certificate to be used at a later date, but the waitress advised that they ran out of gift certificates and just to bring the voucher back to the restaurant if we came again and they would take $25.00 off of our next visit. Not sure how well that will work?? Not sure why or how this Restaurant has received awards...
Read moreWe arrived for our reservation @ 5:20pm early for our 5:30 reservation - we were seated by a young hostess at a table where there was obvious bird poop on the chair - the patio was not busy and the poop had been there quite some time - I changed the chair and awaited our server - our server was not much older than the hostess and it took quite some time for her to attend our table. I asked for the menu selection for our WAGJAG and she quite quickly rhymed off the selections. we were brought the bruchetta (not toasted at all). My wife ordered the fettucine with lobster tail and I ordered the osso bucko with vegetables and potato. When our food came my wife mentioned to me that the lobster tail was quite tough and smelled of amonia (the first signs of going off seafood) our server not once came by to ask what our first bites were like, otherwise my wife and myself would have mentioned the off lobster tail - it wasn't until I was finished my Osso bucko that the server came by to ask if my wife wanted to have her leftover pasta packed up and this is when we mentioned the the off lobster tail - I don't believe our server even mentioned it to the kitchen staff as I believe she was too young to understand what has to be mentioned to the kitchen and what customer service is all about. I think the management of Oggi Bistro should discuss in detail what is proper etiquette for running a restaurant and what needs to be reported to the kitchen so that they can rectify and unpleasant situation. Although we have a $ 25.00 credit for our next visit I would be hesitant to attend the Grimsby location all until we see or hear that things are any different moving forward. No once were the server or any of the servers observed to ask any of the other patrons about their respective meals. I would like to hear from the establishment about my...
