We entered the restaurant on a Monday evening and greeted by the pleasant server who seated us immediately. The menu was very laid out, so it made it much easier to identify what exactly we wanted. For a starter we ordered the lentil soup, which honestly was not what we were expecting. The colour was nice and vibrant, but the whole thing was a puree, We were expecting to see the shape of the lentils. The flavour was on the bland side, when I was expecting some punch! On the plus side, we also ordered veg samosa's which were very well made. You could taste it and tell that it was made in house, the pastry was flaky and the filling had great flavour. They came with a side of a mint yogurt dip, which had a nice mild kick to it. Honestly, I love my spice so it was a nice surprise.
Are you curious about our main? Well we ordered the channa, which is a chickpea curry with some garlic naan. Honestly, it was like a great homemade curry, the layers of flavour was perfect. You could taste the cumin, cinnamon, cardamom, tomato tanginess, hints of tamarind, yes, they were all there!
The naan was exceptional! Flaky and doughy, with a mild garlic flavour and a light teasing of butter over the top, delicious!
Atmosphere wise, the restaurant was well lit and had beautiful murals of peacocks on the different walls, very inviting and cozy.
Overall, great experience! We will be going back to try a few more curries to make a solid critique, plainly put, yes, we...
Read moreMy friend and I were looking for a new place to try and I remembered being told about this one. From walking in it was aesthetically pleasing, small and cozy. The server came to greet us in about two mins. There were only two other people at the time so we had the pick of the place. The server was just right. She checked on us a few times, she was pleasant and sweet and cute as a button. We asked some questions about menu items and how they were served so we would know if we had to order rice separate etc. She was very helpful here and we actually decided to order items she suggested. The food came in order appys very fast, Main about 20 mins later and we enjoyed our meal and didnât feel rushed. The place picked up quite a bit while we were there with eat in and take out customers. The food was delicious! With an appetizer, one main, rice and naan it was the perfect size for two and a small portion to take home. It burst with flavour, the rice was aromatic, and the chicken was perfectly cooked. We will definitely be back and have already told many friends to check it out! I read some reviews about wait time etc. This is food that is meant to be enjoyed. It takes time to prepare and it should take time to eat. Itâs not a fast food restaurant where they make your food as fast as you can eat it. Come to this restaurant and choose a few different menu items and enjoy good food with good friends. Donât always...
Read moreTried here for lunch on a sunny Thursday in April and luckily got a street parking lot directly in front (1 hour availability so didn't have to pay). We walked in and were greeted immediately by a friendly server who said we could take any table we liked. There were a handful in the room, with I think seating capacity for about 20-24 altogether? (at least now during covid times). We took a three-seater smaller table towards the rear where the lighting is cosier. (lots of natural light coming in at the front but I find that can be too bright sometimes). Nicely decorated, casual atmosphere with colorful walls and two giant painted ceiling mandalas. Glass water bottles left at the table to top yourself up as needed. He took our order within a minute or two and the food took 10-15 minutes to arrive. I got one of their daily specials (chicken saagwala - a little spicy, spinach puree with green chillies and whole spices) which was very good and comes with a side of plain rice. My friend had the Tandoor chicken (13.99) which was 5 drumsticks served on a platter with a small dish of mint sauce, onion & lemon slices, which was good. We split an order of garlic naan to start, which was two giant thick slices, buttery, very good. Overall I'd say this place is pretty comparable to most Indian restaurants in Halifax. We'd come...
