Great way to see the city and learn a bit about Halifax’s history. Going into the harbour was very fun. I moved here in 2011 and have been on the harbour hopper 4 times now and every time except for this most recent one, was excellent. I have brought family on it when they come to visit to show them a quick overview of the city while learning about the history and the main attractions of Halifax. Unfortunately for everyone in our group and from the looks of it, Most people on the trip- our tour guide was Yasmine. 70% of her talking was about herself. She talked about where she grew up, went to school, that she resembles a Philippeno baby and thanked her mother for that. Strange, I know. She showed us the church she was baptized at, where she went on her first date, where she bought lipgloss (shoppers on spring garden road), her families financially experience at the casino, and told us multiple times how she is performing at the multicultural festival in Dartmouth this weekend and to go see her there. She showed us a painting her friend did on the wall of a building - etc etc. It was quite bad. She didn’t even include Quebec when asking where everyone was from. She asked every single province and even included the territories and did not mention Quebec- we are 8 people from Quebec. It could have been an honest mistake but it did not go unnoticed. Because she was talking about herself so much, she missed several important talking points; Alexander Keith’s history, the graveyard for people from The titantic, what George’s island was, the design and history of citadel hill etc. From my previous 3 times on this trip, I noticed how much she missed and now my family who 6 of them were never on the tour before, did not get to learn. The most important piece was the Halifax explosion. She brushed over a couple quick facts at the very end of the trip and rushed it.She didn’t talk about the military or explain it. During the time in the harbour, she didn’t speak much at all but this would have been a good time To talk about the explosion and where the ships where coming from, pier 21, military etc. Overall, We learned a lot about her life and experiences but not a whole lot about a Halifax. For $600, this is very disappointing. She asked for a tip at the end and usually this is something we would be happy to provide but unfortunately there was no way we could tip. If management can please reach out to me, it would be...
Read moreOn October 16th, 2025 I finally took my family on the Harbour Hopper Tour after I left the city over 10 years ago. I remember the tour being much longer and showing many of the historical sites with history from the city being told ( I.e. Halifax Explosion, Titanic victims graveyard etc.).The tour guide was friendly but seemed to be more worried about telling jokes and acting as a “stand up comedian” instead of telling more facts and history about the city and it’s landmarks. We are living in Europe and there were other guests that day who were also from France and other countries who were also not aware of some of the Canadian insights to even understand the “jokes” the guide was telling. The guide did tell us about the Halifax explosion but towards the end I asked him if he would tell us a bit about the Titanic and he simply said “We don’t have time for it maybe next time”… which came across pretty ignorant to all of as we still had a few minutes to go and he had promised us in the beginning of the tour he’d be covering it. We had the last tour of the day and it seemed to us they just wanted to get it over with and be done for the day. I was extremely disappointed. I am giving a 3 out of 5 stars because my family still loved the city and it was nice to see it...
Read moreWe booked our tickets in advance, drove an hour, and was sure to be there for the check in time listed on our confirmation email. When it was finally our time to check in, they told us there was some issues with the vehicle and could not safely operate it so they would have to reschedule us to refund us. We asked when the next tour was that could accommodate 3 adults and one toddler was. They said they had one seat available 5 hours later. We ended up getting a refund. We then walked out of the building and began wandering around to find something to do so it wasn’t a wasted trip. At this point in time, we saw the vehicle getting ready to leave on a tour, full of people. About 10 minutes later, which according to the confirmation email, would have been our boarding time, they called us saying they had to cancel our reservation because it was not safe to operate at that time. Poor communication. We would have been fine if they told us they had over booked it instead of telling us the vehicle was having issues and could not be run only for us to see it pulling away...
