Very filling, unique take on a restaurant/bar. The pastry bar at the entrance is free! First of many sweet surprises. I was feeling adventurous and tried the Princess Pickle pizza, house lemonade, and the dark chocolate cherry bread pudding. So stuffed! The pizza was a little doughy, making it difficult to eat without the delicous toppings sliding off, but I managed. The chicken wasn't little cubes of breast, but chunks of tender dark meat! I enjoyed the fresh dill and pickles. The red pepper flakes reminded me of a clam linguine dish my mom made a lot, but there was definitely no clams in the pizza (though that might be even better!). The house lemonade was carbonated, another surprise, but tasted fine. I might have tried something else if I knew it was carbonated. Personally, I was expecting more chocolate and more cherries in the bread pudding. Every few bites I would get a cherry surprise and no noticeable chocolate at all until about halfway through. The bread was perfect - flaky, flavourful, dry enough to soak up some white chocolate sauce and melted ice cream, but moist enough for a good mouth feel. The focus was definitely the pudding rather than the dark chocolate/cherry - would recommend changing the name of the dessert or adding either a dark chocolate sauce or more chunks of dark chocolate/cherries to the dish. Or having a customizable bread pudding option with different sauces/toppings.

We got the brussels sprouts, mushroom flatbread, large pizza (split in half), umami burger, and side arugula & fennel salad between three people and we were FULL. Packed two slices of pizza and one slice of flatbread to go. All of the food was incredible - well seasoned, great flavours, perfect cook. We also picked up a loaf of their sourdough which we're very excited to have at home. Our waitress was very professional and friendly, answering our many questions about the food. She provided solutions to our food and drink indecisiveness with suggestions that turned out to be exactly what we needed. Even the bartender stopped by at one point to help suggest beers! The waitress' timing to check in on us was great - not over bearing and there when we needed. The food was served in a timely manner, the atmosphere was cozy and chic, tables and chairs were clean. The smallest little tidbit of a qualm was the bathroom mirror was hung too high and I couldn't see myself, and the light that encircled the mirror shined directly into my eyes (#shortgirlproblem), but honestly I don't really have any complaints! The prices are reasonable, especially for the quality of food and service. Will definitely be returning to check out their lunch menu.

It all started with a beautiful summer evening, sun setting and a warm breeze. 😉 After a walk down James st trying to pick the right place for dinner my cousin and I came upon Bread Bar. I'd been before and it's always been great, this was my cousin 1st time. Julianna was our delightful server. We both being extremely indecisive people appreciated her help. She asked us of our likes and dislikes, she enlighten us to many menu items she felt were a hit and would match our palates. She was engaging the entire night and had a great sense of humor. We had the best of both worlds as the neighboring table was another employee who was enjoying a night out with a friend. I believe it says alot when the staff want to eat there off work hours. Also these ladies were so sweet and a good laugh! Needless to say the food was amazing, beautiful presentation and just what we were looking for. I highly recommend the Umami Burger, so much flavour and you can taste the freshness in the ingredients! As Juliana recommended we went with the loaded fries, tonight's creation was garlicy and spicy. Perfection! Can't wait to return and see what new items might be on the menu.

Just left for a dinner as a write this. 1 star, as the food was delicious as always. The level of service today was surprising and left us all feeling uncomfortable. And to be honest, completely unwarranted. Our server, Jonathan (although I’m unsure if it was him since there were two male servers on the floor - that is the name on the receipt once our significantly sized meal was paid…) was… INCREDIBLY prickly and abrupt throughout our time during dinner. And more so as we exited. He became even more dismissive as we wished him a good night as he walked away. Again, not exactly sure why we were treated the way we were? It seemed like he was having quite a day to be acting so passively aggressive. It’s really disappointing as we do enjoy the food here and have always had wonderful experiences. It’s our second visit this season with the nicer weather in the span of month. This was a completely different experience with the lovely server we had on the patio literally a couple of weeks ago. I hope this review serves as an example to management… 3/4 from our group have worked/still work in the service industry and work predominantly in customer care and service. This was a very disappointing experience and overshadowed our original excitement prior to entering the restaurant. Our previous server was an absolute gem in contrast in our previous visit but more so, in comparison to Jonathan’s demeanour in this recent visit.

Visit: Sunday, May 29th. Date/Time Stamp on...

This was my first time here, We had made reservations for my sister’s 30th birthday/going away celebration. when we arrived, they had written down the wrong name for our reservation, then when we were in the middle of eating the waitress comes over and asks if we want to-go boxes… I said no and the waitress asked “are you sure?”… I said yes I am still eating, which I found very rude, weird and the vibe we were no longer wanted there. About five minutes later she comes back and then informs us (for the first time) that they have another reservation coming in at 8:45 (15 mins from the time she told us) and that we can either pay our bills or move to the bar “or something “. This was very unprofessional and rude in my opinion, as we had not been notified when booking, or even upon arriving that we were on a timed reservation, until we had 15 minutes left, still eating our food and had just ordered drinks. She did not offer us dessert (which we were wanting) & we had to jug our drinks while they stared at us from the corner. I have never experienced this at any other restaurant before. it was very uncomfortable and awkward. I hope they start informing their guests while booking/before seating, that they have timed reservations on nights they are busy, to avoid their experience being ruined. Which is a shame, because the food and atmosphere before...
