This sleepy little Indian restaurant is located in the basement underneath The Diplomat (restaurant) on King William, and it can be pretty easy to walk past it if your not looking. Once inside your met with a cozy but simple decor, some small buddha reliefs and a couple nice prints of mountain ranges from the Indian sub-continent; basic and functional. The bar serves limited options for alcoholic beverages including a few domestic beer selections, wines and liquors which are reasonably priced. The servers are very attentive and friendly, they are also helpful if you need recommendations about what to order. I was really impressed by the food at Sagarmatha, the quality of the ingredients and the size of the portions. The bread is the best I have ever tried at an Indian restaurant, it is simply fantastic. We ordered a Bread Basket which had four different types of bread (it was huge and probably too much!). To start we also ordered the Samosa Chat and the Chicken Pakora. The samosas were above average, while the Chicken Pakora was phenomenal. I grabbed the Malai Tikka combo platter for my main, these combo platters are large and filling. The Basmati rice was ok but the chicken served on top was delicious and high quality. Overall I would suggest you give this place a shot. The food is delicious especially if you enjoy the spice combinations of Indian food without being blown away by heat (I would be remiss as a chilihead if I didn't state that I was a little dissappointed with the lack of spiciness of the food). You should expect to pay between $15-$20 per person for food, and $35 with a couple of drinks. This is very reasonable considering the size of the portions.

This restaurant really hit the spot when we were looking for a good place to fulfill our craving for some Indian food. The execution of every dish was perfect and delicious. They let you choose the level of spice that you would like in your dish which is a huge positive, and allows everyone to enjoy the food. The batter for the Pakora and Bhajiya was delicious and crispy, and these dipping sauces were the perfect pairing. I think the Himalayan Beer really stood out and paired really well with all the dishes. It’s a beer that isn’t sold in stores, and is locally brewed specifically for south Asian restaurants, so I highly recommend trying it. The butter chicken was sweet and velvety, and was a solid 10/10 for me. We also ordered the garlic naan which was fluffy and the perfect medium for the curry. I would put the execution and flavours above all other Indian restaurants that I’ve tried, so for me I’m going to go ahead and say that this is my favourite. An interesting note to add is that this cuisine is considered Royal Indian / Nepalese! I really enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant as well, dim lighting, well spaced out tables, family-owned vibe, and underground. If you’re thinking about giving them a try, please do, you will not be disappointed, we will absolutely be back to try more! Also, you cant beat the price for the level of quality

Refer to pictures!! I have never written a google review but I'm so so so disappointed with my order that I had to write a review. I read some of the reviews and I feel like maybe its only dine in that is good or it's ppl that work there that made the reviews. I ordered the bread platter for $16.99(don't waste you money). 1st off for $16.99 I was expecting a lot more bread then there was! The so called platter might as well have been plain nan with 2 very small corners of of roti(i put a hockey card on top for reference of size, 2 aloo slices that were so thin that you couldn't even tell that they were aloo(refer to pictures for both roti and the aloo which shows the thickness) more like, I don't know there was basically nothing different other then some spices... I also order Coconut curry with chicken, i got 6 little cubes of chicken in my really thing coconut curry. The taste was okay but very sweet which I'm not use to when ordering Indian food. I am so mad that I don't know if I want to scream or cry. Never will I order from here again and stick with Masala grill which is amazing and their portion size is worth the money. I feel like I paid a large amount of money for a $10 order. I did order a bit later so maybe i got what was left. i dont know, just very upset!

Extremely disappointed about my first and ONLY visit at Sagarmatha. I ordered two mains and an appetizer. I was told the wait time was 35-45 minutes. I arrived at the 45 minute mark and went inside. A woman at the desk told me that it wouldn't be much longer and that I need to pay right away. There was about 15 people in the restaurant and she was asking everyone for payment. I already felt extremely uncomfortable as there was too many people in the restaurant waiting and the restaurant was not abiding or enforcing any COVID recommendations. After the lady received payment she disappeared for about 10 minutes. Everyone in the restaurant around me was mad and I heard from various people that they were waiting over an hour and a half for food. One guy asked why it took 1 hour to get butter chicken which he was told would take 15 minutes to make- they were obviously busy so I kept waiting. It was a bit strange at first that all of the Skip the Dishes drivers were able to get their food right away, but hey maybe the orders went in first. Until one driver came back TWICE, and received his order right away after he asked about his order that was put in about 20 minutes before. I asked the lady again about my order and she said please wait it would only be 5 minutes more- try another 30 minutes. At the hour and a half mark, I asked again, and the lady came out with the food and left again. It was unfortunate that I had to wait so long but it happens, at least the food would be good right? WRONG. The butter chicken had no flavour or spice (literally asked for extra spice). It tasted like cold tomato soup and yogurt and there was only 3 small pieces of chicken in it. Our appetizer was burnt to a crisp and you couldn't even bite through it. NOT WORTH THE WAIT. Not only will I not be returning because of the food, but clearly there are issues with customer service. Do not tell customers that the wait time is 35-45 minutes, when you only started making the meals after they come in to pay. If you are busy with Skip the Dishes and want to serve them first, let customers know that so they can go elsewhere that will treat them the same or put them in proper order OR recommend customers to order through Skip the Dishes so that they get there meal within the reasonable time promised. There is WAY better indian food elsewhere in Hamilton with MUCH better customer service - will not...

Sagarmatha Curry Palace is my favourite Indian restaurant in the Hamilton area; around our house, it's known only as 'that good Indian place'. We originally tried this because my friend obsesses over butter chicken, and when we saw it on the menu, it was like love at first sight. We've had probably close to 10 to 15 orders in the last year, which is a rare feat for any restaurant to earn, and the thing that just keeps bringing us back is the food. We've also been surprised on several occasions to get little bonuses to 'try' every once in a while, which led me to their butter chicken dinner thali, which is really good and something I order for the next day now. To be more specific, I've had all of the chicken, lamb, fish, shrimp, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options on the menu at this point, and to break it down, the reason why it's good is also why people may not enjoy it. It is authentic to the specific sub-region of the world the dishes are from, and the flavours (while slightly sweeter) are normally adjusted on your terms. An example I find helps is that it's much like salt and pepper is to western cuisine, so asking for it to be extra seasoned or spicier. I'll agree that some of their tomato-based sauce dishes can be fairly sweet, but they also have a huge amount of flavour, and when I want it a bit stronger, I add some Sriracha, and the craving is satisfied. Feeling like I was slightly rough on their tomato dishes (which are always in my order), some of the best flavours I've had in my mouth, period, come from their tandoor options. I frequently order their 'Veg Paneer Tikka combo, and when I first took a bite of those onions and the flavour hit my mouth, it was one of the best tastes I've experienced. Also, all their rice is jeera rice, which is absolutely fabulous. In no particular order, these are the things I recommend. It really is a shame because the food was good, but we were given a bread basket without asking for it. We ordered 2 plain naans with our meal and they came out with this as well as a bread platter. When we asked why there was so much bread because we only ordered 2 Naans, the server said it was a bread basket (at the time, we had no clue what this was). At that point, when we advised we only ordered 2 Naans with our meal, the server should have taken it back, but instead, he just said it was a bread basket and we thought it was house bread that came complimentary with our meal. We didn’t actually eat it because it was too much bread for us.

At the point of payment, I paid for the meal. I should have asked to look at the receipt first, but the server was holding it and handed it to me with my debit receipt.

I went to the bathroom, looked at the receipt and saw the $17 charge for the bread basket that we never asked for which we had made clear at the table. I asked for a refund and he advised that because the basket wasn’t refused at the table, he couldn’t process a refund for the bread basket. We didn’t eat it and advised him that we could give it back to him. He said that at this point, this wasn’t possible.

I spoke to the server that took our order in front of the man (Raj) that I was asking to get a refund from, whom confirmed that we didn’t order a bread basket when she took our order. Still, despite this and the food not being eaten, a refund was refused. I then asked to speak to the manager because Raj was stating “we are just the staff, I hope you understand this isn’t going in our pockets. I’m sorry for this error, but I’m not allowed to refund you.”

Raj went into the back to speak to “someone higher than him” and advised that I couldn’t speak to them and that he couldn’t refund me.

$17 for bread that we never ordered and never ate. Be careful when dining at this establishment because apparently they can add anything to your bill and get away with it.

Very disappointing. I’ve never experienced an establishment unwilling to correct their own error and refusing to allow me to speak to anyone higher, despite Raj and the female server repeating that they are only staff and can’t do...
