Wary of the negative reviews my family and I decided to give Capri a try after not visiting for the past 6 years. We celebrated a birthday here with my in-laws. Nicky(Nicki?) was our server and she was fantastic. Very attentive and courteous. If anything Capri might want to have another busser/server for the dinner hours during the week as she seemed a bit overwhelmed handling drinks, Ubers, bussing and taking orders by herself. The food was the real star here though. I had the home made tomato sauce with their home made noodles, Arrabiata sauce as well as the eggplant parmesan. Very good combination of spices and flavour, the Arrabiata especially, with moderate heat that builds with your meal. The eggplant parmesan was a huge portion and we could not finish it but we were happy to take some home with us! The meals were also plated beautifully and served with what smelled and tasted like fresh basil! Our spaghetti with tomato sauce ran $13 (Arrabiata $16) and was filling and satisfying. Our only criticisms would be possibly another server and the price of of the draught on top was a little high at $9. Definitely stick to the house wines. It seems most negative experiences happen through delivery/takeout so there are definitely areas to improve upon. All in all a great experience. We will be returning when we would like some Italian cuisine.

When we met one of the owners of the Capri Ristorante here today, we were pleasantly surprised that this legendary restaurant had reopened. We had tried to visit a couple of times over the year but it had been closed for renovations. We had assumed that it had slipped into history. We had supper here tonight and we left it up to Mama, the chef to decide on what to serve us. We have not eaten calamari in Canada for many years because too often it tastes like rubber. This time we were very surprised to be served a roasted calamari topped salad and the seafood was served in perfection. To top it off, our main dish Mama choose for us was her homemade gnocchi and veal. We don't order gnocchi unless we are in Italy but Mama's homemade gnocchi with the veal was the perfect example of a proper Italian gnocchi. Our wonderful server Angela choose homemade tiramisu as our dessert and it was awesome. we finished with a snappy espresso. This evening has been a highlight of our recent visit to Hamilton thanks to the Capri Ristorante. Mille Grazie!!

Capri wraps Chef Boyardee-grade food up in the veneer of old movie restaurant decor and serves it up as Italian. Apart from the service, there's little to like here. The food is barely edible, with dried out veal and overcooked low quality spaghetti as well as fishy, nonfresh calamari that's hard to choke down. Perhaps the only thing you should entertain eating here is pizza, but from what I read it seems as if you might have to wait a bit to have it delivered. Prices are slightly below average but don't compensate enough for the food quality. The interior of the restaurant is just as dated as people say, plus there's a poorly cleaned room that's coated entirely in carpets (yes, even the walls). With all that, it's kind of unfathomable how Capri was rated one of Hamilton's best Italian food places in 2014 and 2015. Anyhow, the culinary scene in Hamilton has changed by a lot and very quickly, so there's pretty much no reason to eat here anymore unless you're making your own Godfather tribute film.

I ordered some food through JustEat.ca for delivery. After an hour of not getting anything delivered, I called the store to ask how long delivery through JustEat.ca should take, she said an hour. She said she didn't know if it had left cause she's in the front and has to go to the back and she would go to the back and check and then just hung up. I waited another 30 minutes and it was finally delivered. Everything was sooooo cold, I had to call the restaurant to let them know. The same girl answered and when i asked for the manager, she said it was her. Great! I told her, not only did I wait 1.5 hours for delivery but everything was stone cold. She did not apologize at all and just said "I have your number here, I'm going to have to talk to the kitchen and see what happened". I did not get a call back at all. I had to heat my food up in the microwave which made chicken dry and the pasta mush. I know from cooking pasta myself, that the microwave doesn't mush pasta like that when you reheat, which means it was so overcooked by their kitchen. I spent $43 on food from there and now I'm having to chase the manager to get answers. I called back that night and they were closed. I checked what time they open and called back the next morning but the manager wasn't in till 5pm. I called back at 7pm and the manager was "busy" and would call me back...ya right! I demanded to speak to the manager immediately and she finally came to the phone. Same manager. I reitterated who i was and what happened and added my frustration about having to chase her because she hadn't called me back. She still didn't apologize until after i pointed out that she hadn't apologized once, which by now seems very insincere. When asked why she didn't call me back, she claimed it was 10pm when she got ahold of the driver and kitchen claims everything was hot when it left. I asked her why I didn't get a call from here at 5, when she started and she was full of excuses. She changed her story from before to say that delivery from JustEat.ca takes 1.5 hours. Including that it takes 25 minutes to get to me for delivery alone, to which I've attached a Google map directions to prove its only 14 minutes for everyone's review. She was full of excuses and talked over me constantly on the phone and didn't care at all. She didn't care that their food was gross and delivered late. They took my money and that was that. I would never order from them after all that or walk into their restaurant and she refused to give me any kind of refund but offered a credit instead. I told her i would post a whole bunch of reviews everywhere I can, and tell everyone I know about my experience. I literally feel like they stole my money from me and relished in it. Disgusted by the food, service and management!...

To start off on a good note, the tea was AMAZING! Tasted incredible and looked even better! Now, that kind of review is not the same for the rest of the meal... The spaghetti was alright, the sauce was like water, but other than that I suppose it was fine. It came in all different portions, though, I'm not sure if they based our food portion off of our assumed age, but it sure looked like it. My sister and I got the smallest portions, which, I guess, is understandable. But my grandfather and my mother got the biggest portions, which made it difficult for them to eat. The Parmesan came in late, not to blame the waiter, though. Because she seemed to be the only waiter, and there were definitely over 12 other customers. The Parmesan was basically powder. It took over 5 average servings worth Parmesan to actually be able to tell it was there. The garlic bread came in extremely late, and it was burnt on the outside, but extremely raw on the inside, which for us personally made it hard to eat. The cheese on the bread was kind of... Old? Not like the old cheese they sell at grocery stores. But kind of like it was going to expire. And I'm not sure it's normal for the cheese to completely fall off the bread, but that's what happened. 4 dishes of spaghetti and one garlic bread racked up around 94 dollars. My mother was not happy, but we decided just to pay and leave. And the next day (which I am writing this) We all feel ill, personally wouldn't recommend.

Note to the owner: hire more waiters! Poor girl was fighting for her...

It wasn't easy researching for a great Italian restaurant in Hamilton, but we found it at Capri. The vibe in the restaurant captures the blue of Capri well, and the staff were very friendly. There was only our group of 2 and one other on a Sunday night for dinner, and it may have been a slow day, but don't be turned off by that anyway because the food speaks for itself. We got the fried calamari and a panzerotto to start and share. The fried calamari were as good as any, light batter that stayed on and a perfect amount of salt, with a nice cocktail sauce. The panzerotto was also very tasty and seemed to be lightly fried, but not oily. Served with a side sauce which was a nice touch that not every place does. For our mains we split the eggplant parmigiana dish as it also came with a side pasta or salad and opted for a side of the broccoli pasta, both of which were excellent. I enquired about the eggplant parmigiana before ordering and was told that they recently started breading it which is exactly what I wanted to hear because if you don't do that it turns out to be a mushy mess. This one was layered and had good structure or easy cutting and texture. The sauce on it was also flavourfull. The pasta dish was also very good with a garlic olive oil base and was very fresh and cooked al dente. The portions were so big we were able to split this one main. All of that came out to just over $70 with tax and tip. We were very impressed with this...
