We ordered Eng’s a while ago through Uber Eats, and, let’s just say that it’s something that I’ll never forget. An unforgettable evening that will be etched in my brain for the rest of my life..and, not in a good way. Our meal arrived, and, in addition to having an unpleasant appearance, the food was lukewarm at best. To be frank, it tasted as though it was from a previous day…and, simply reheated. I’ll spare you the negative details about most of the dishes, and, say that they were bland and lacked flavour. The ‘highlight’ of the meal was our last minute egg roll addition. As soon as I bit into my ‘egg roll’, I proceeded to chew on a never-ending string of bean sprouts. As I proceeded to chew, and, pull away from it, bean sprouts continued to emerge from the ‘egg roll’! I couldn’t detach myself from it. I kind of felt like a magician performing a magic trick…the bean sprouts just kept coming…and, coming..they wouldn’t end! It was funny, fascinating, and, terrifying at the same time. Once the bean sprout madness finally stopped, I was left holding an empty deep-fried tube. Although I didn’t attempt it, I guess it could have been used as a temporary shot glass, or, a small cup to hold my remaining soy sauce!? One positive from our memorable takeout experience is that we now have a new measuring stick for how bad a meal was “At least these tacos/wings/burgers weren’t ‘Eng’s Egg Roll Bad’! If you scan the reviews, and, you see things like ‘best egg rolls ever’, they’re either lying ….or, more likely, they’ve clearly never eaten an egg roll anywhere else in the world.
I’m sorry if this review comes across as ‘harsh’, but, as someone that’s worked in the food & beverage world, it’s something that needs to be said. This is my gift to anyone out there, browsing Hamilton resto sites tonight thinking to themselves “I’m craving egg rolls”. If you’re feeling reckless with your hard-earned $, go ahead, roll the dice, and, try them…but, don’t say you weren’t...

I went here with my friend and son and decided to sit and eat. There is only 1 table a large round one in the middle of the room. The place is not for dine in. They have all the other tables and chairs stacked on the side with cases of soda and water piled on them. The atmosphere was not welcoming normally I wouldn’t even eat in a place that looked the way that it did, but I was told the food was good so I decided to give it a chance. The older woman there pretty much hovered over us watching us eat. When I asked for napkins, straws, extra cutlery she just tossed them on the table unprotected. She never wiped the table down or anything. She just continued to stare at us as if we had intentions to steal something. When all we wanted to do was eat in peace. Halfway through my meal I was chewing on rice and bit into something that felt like a fingernail in my mouth to be honest, I was mortified. When I spit it out, it ended up being a wire of some sort. I showed the lady that was hovering over us and she just looked at me and said oh. It didn’t seem like she was going to do anything about it at first. Moments later, she said I don’t pay for it. I was never paying for it. I stopped eating immediately and gave her the food to throw away. Had this been a takeout experience I would’ve wasted my money. I do not recommend this place. They are not clean. They do not have good customer service. They do not handle food properly. If you’re OK with eating food out of a dirty kitchen, then continue eating here but if you have any respect for your health and safety, I suggest you go somewhere else. I wish I took a photo before she took the food from me. Worst...
Read moreCalled at 230pm for a 4pm pick up Ordered Cheese Wontons, Beef and Broccoli, Beef Lo Mein, Orange Chicken, Deep Fried Shrimps, Short Ribs, Pork Dumplings and an Egg Roll Growing up on the mountain in the 80s, my family would traditionally eat at the great buffet that was China Kiki at Mountain Plaza Mall or travel to Burlington to eat at the greater buffet that was Foo Ho. When looking for Chinese food here in the city, the food had to live up to those standards in my memory. Eng’s does not disappoint. It is fast, hot, and very tasty. The egg roll was eaten so fast we missed it in the picture! The breading in the shrimps was unlike any other deep fried shrimps goodness I’ve had, and even lasted to the next day for lunch. The beef in both beef dishes was flavourful and well cooked. The vegetables were crunchy and sauced well. The Lo Mein noodles were great both on their own with sweet and sour sauce and with the beef and veg, too. And the orange chicken? Full of saucy goodness. The Short Ribs were the perfect kind of sticky if that makes any sense. Oh - and cheese wontons - they are just cheese, no crab - they are just a delight, both before and after the meal. There was plenty of food for two people - we ordered it for 4pm so that we could snack on it all night, and had enough for lunch the next day. They also tossed in about 8 fortune cookies which is always a bonus. We have lived on the east mountain for 5 years now, and just tried Eng’s for the first time. It is dangerously good knowing it is...
