Disappointing Experience with Upselling at Gwalia

I recently dined at Gwalia and, while my experience started off well, it took a surprising turn. I ordered the Kachori chaat, which I found to be just okay, but I appreciated the quick service.

However, what happened next left me quite disappointed. I wanted to try one of their sweets, so I asked the server to pack two pieces for me, based on the labelled price per pound. Initially, the server agreed to sell the sweets this way, but then abruptly changed his mind, stating they don’t sell individual pieces. I clarified that I wasn’t asking for individual pieces but was happy to pay whatever the cost came to when weighed. Despite this, the server insisted that I needed to buy at least 1/2 pound, which I felt was unnecessary as I only wanted a small amount for myself.

What was most frustrating was the upselling attempt, despite my clear request. There was no signage indicating a minimum purchase requirement, which made the situation all the more confusing and disappointing. If there is indeed a condition that customers must buy at least 1/2 pound, this should be clearly communicated.

Overall, I found this practice to be misleading and frustrating. Gwalia needs to either be upfront about such conditions or reconsider this approach, as it left me with a negative impression of...

We had an incredible dining experience at this Indian restaurant! From start to finish, everything was perfect.

For starters, we ordered momos, Schezwan noodles, Hakka noodles, gravy Manchurian, mango lassi, masala tea, and shikanji. Every dish was packed with flavor, served fresh, and piping hot. The momos were soft and well-seasoned, while the noodles had the perfect balance of spice and texture. The drinks were refreshing and authentic — the mango lassi was rich and creamy, and the masala tea had the perfect kick of spices.

For the main course, we enjoyed rawa onion dosa, paneer lababdar, sweet white gravy malai kofta, dal makhni, butter naan, and roti. Each dish was absolutely delicious! The dosa was crisp and flavorful, the paneer lababdar had a rich, creamy texture, and the malai kofta was wonderfully indulgent with its sweet, white gravy. The dal makhni was rich and comforting, and the naan and roti were soft yet perfectly baked.

On top of the amazing food, the service was fantastic. The staff was attentive, friendly, and ensured everything was served fresh and hot.

All in all, this is hands down one of the best Indian restaurants we’ve ever visited. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic flavors and...

I had an absolutely fantastic dining experience Gwalia Sweets and Restaurant! The moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere. The decor was beautiful, with vibrant colors and traditional touches that made the ambiance perfect.

The food was nothing short of extraordinary. Every dish was bursting with authentic flavors, Chaats and Curries were standout and the Garlic Naan were the best I’ve ever had. The menu had a great variety, from Beverages, Sandwiches, Chaats, Hakka Chinese, North Indian, South Indian, Pav Bhaji, Chole Bhature etc etc. Certainly a paradise for Vegetarian people.

We tried following items from menu and highly recommend each and everything;

-Mango Mastani -Dahi Puri -Mysore Masala Dosa -Hakka noodles -Paneer Lababdar -Garlic Naan

Service was impeccable – our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and offered great recommendations. The food arrived promptly and was presented beautifully.

I will definitely be returning and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable Indian...

The restaurant has a good ambiance. However, cleanliness is a major area that needs urgent attention. During our visit, we saw a centipede crawling from one couch backrest to another — an extremely unsettling sight. Another concern was the behavior of the staff. The girl working the late evening shift on Saturday, August 30th, lacked basic courtesy when welcoming customers. Expecting everyone to speak the local language is unprofessional and makes the environment feel uninviting. Hygiene overall was disappointing. The water bottle on our table had visible particles — possibly a food crumb — floating and sinking in it. The coriander used to garnish one of our dishes was visibly spoiled, with black and brown discoloration, yet it was still served. Even the spoons and forks were not properly cleaned — they felt sticky, discolored, and clearly unwashed. Future guests please make sure you check the water bottle given to you and the spoon and fork when you arrive.

*1/5 Stars - Disappointing Experience* I visited gwalia today with high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience was a letdown. The service was slow and unfriendly, with long waits between courses and a server who seemed uninterested . The food was also a disappointment. I ordered the Lababdar panner and naans, which was overcooked and lacked flavor. The portion size was small, and the presentation was unappetizing. The menu description promised a lot, but the dish failed to deliver. To top it off, the atmosphere was lacking, and the decor was dated and uninviting. The restaurant seemed to be trying too hard to be trendy, but it came across as pretentious and unoriginal. Overall, I wouldn't recommend gwalia]l to anyone. There are far better options in the area for a similar price point. Maybe they'll improve with time, but for now, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. GWALIA ON FIRST DAY CUSTOMER GAWA LIYA
