Not sure if it was because we came on a Sunday, and right when opening, but in spite the glowing reviews we had a pretty awful experience which was diaappointing :/
Server was nice, but I didn't expect to wait 30mins for our ramen & apps when there were only two other tables before us -- worse yet, with a 3yo with us literally beginning to yell "WHERES MY NOODLE", we of course first recieved our tako yaki and karage which distressed her very further, still waiting several more minutes for the ramen...
Food was good, a bit milky for the original broth, but generally acceptable for a "quick" lunch. Takoyaki was great, Karage was pretty decent but what kind of baffled me is that every photo online and on the menu of the food showed pork shoulder, whay we recieved on all 3 dishes (2 pork hot, 1 cold pork) was pork belly -- no choice or option for shoulder, that's just what we got, and not what we were expecting at all (still tasty though, benefit of a chain restaurant I suppose)
The kicker was the extra 20+ minute wait just to get our bill as we watched our server (now two working) causally/slowly bring beers, apps and food to every other table instead of dropping off our bill with a screaming 3yo yelling "I WANT TO GO HOME"
Not fun.
Anyways, food was good, added up to $80 for 2 adults and a child with some takeaway, but sevrer was a huge letdown for us sadly.
I'll order takeout maybe later but can't sit down there ever again I think which is a shame :( ... only decent ramen close to home for us too
PS: No Japanese greeting through the door which set a pretty gloomy tone in the place, very quiet low energy. I think someone later got at least a low mumble from one of the cooks at least?
PPS: We've all had pretty bad indigestion pretty much all day since eating... a LOT of garlic was used for the broths, not sure if thats why or there other fundamental issues at this location, but something got us good out of our dishes... second guessing if take-out is even a...
Read moreTried this place for the first time and was greeted very warmly upon arrival. The food came out fast and was really tasty, the staff was wonderful and went over and above to make sure the dining experience was great. Will definitely be back!
Edit: This is part 2 of my review. I came for my second time here. The first time was fine and I gave 5 star reviews, I was being quite generous with that review bc they had just opened. My 2nd time here was very disappointing. We ordered the meal for 2 which comes with 2 ramen, 2 drinks & 4 gyoza. When our gyoza was likely not arriving, we inquired and thought maybe it was forgotten. However the server informed us that, we did not order the meal for 2 and that it was too late to change our order in the system. If we wanted the gyoza we would have to pay full price. We declined. I would not have been expecting gyoza if I did not order the Meal for 2. I even pointed at the menu when I was ordering. Upon completion I payed the bill and left. To my surprise once I looked over the bill, the gyoza which we apparently did not order was infact on my bill and paid for. I went back in the restaurant and mentioned that we never received the gyoza and it had been paid for, our original server was gone at this point. She asked if we wanted it to go and I said sure, she mentioned that she would put the sauce on the side to prevent them from getting soggy. When I got them the sauce was on them. I understand that they are human and make mistakes. My biggest issue is that our server blamed me for not ordering properly when I know what I said when I ordered and that just rubs me the wrong way. I’m not usually very picky when it comes to service but it was some weird attempt at gaslighting me when I definitely know...
Read moreIt's a pretty ok experience all together, the menu variety is alright the service was good enough for government work,
Upon entering you notice a pretty bamboo and powder coated steel aesthetic which is nice, the drinks are served in chilled cans with a coke selection, which is down to personal taste, the food itself is pretty ok, the gyoza are deep fried, instead of pan shallow fried, better than eating frozen dumplings,
Down to the noodles. You are given a spread sheet to pick which meat and sauce permutation you would like, which is nifty, you get a choice between thin and thick noodles which honestly. Ones down to like a 2mm diameter difference (the thick are definitely better) The most frustrating thing is the more expensive miso and spicy options don't actually come with marinated eggs which the eggs are worth making sure you grab they are yummy, the blowtorched pork is nice, probably the best tasting part about the resteraunt but the amount of meat served is smaller than other resteraunts in the same category with closely priced bowls.
I would recommend especially if you are a stoner or you need somewhere to go for lunch/dinner after shopping or before going on the highway,
Definitely worth stopping by in order to fill your stomach I would recommend going elsewhere if you have back pain due to the hard bench and the stools at the tables.
My family collectively gave about a 6.5/10 for ramen in hamilton
Oh and we didn't like that the tonkotsu was just called "original" that was of note enough to mention...
