The WORKS Craft Burgers & Beer — Restaurant in Hamilton

Have visited this location numerous times before and rarely had issues. Haven't eaten there in a while, so I thought I would try it again today. I had a plain jane w. impossible patty, lettuce bun, pickles, beechhouse sauce, and a side salad (weeds) with balsamic vinegrette. Beechhouse sauce recipe was changed and now had black pepper, which it never did before. Had the pleasure of my mouth tingling before I inspected the sauce and sauce the black flakes all over. Salad was okay but nothing memorable. Cucumbers and peppers were way too long for a salad. Slices the length of the vegetable/fruit rather than bite sized. Burger was so dry and overcooked, and tasted different than normal. Tried two bites before I stopped. The person I was with had a Weeds salad. The outside of the chicken was burnt, while the inside was raw. Same thing with the sliced cucumbers and peppers as they were not bite sized. They could not each much of the salad and we quit eating, with most of the meal unfinished. Also why do the salad come in a flat metal plate with raised edges that are covered in paper. Since when are salads served like that? We were asked if we wanted to get to go boxes. Why would we when we hated the meal because the foods changed from the other times we've been there. Also, there was only one server, which has happened before. But the fact that lately there is only one server available is worrying when there used to be more. Not paying the staff enough perhaps? The cook was also different/new, a young guy who does not know how to cook. Food is either undercooked or overdone, flavours have changed, and you may end up waiting a while to get your order taken or to get your order. My salad got a surprise of a bit of chicken from the other person's chicken salad and when I inquired about it that's what I was told. The server who was seemingly ina good mood, basically acted like it happens and to essentially deal with it since there wasn't anything they can do. Also, contamination like that is a big issue, especially with dietary restrictions and allergies. I'm vegetarian and didn't appreciate meat in my vegetarian salad. I do have allergies and other restrictions, which I'm glad were not added as I specified. That being said, I've had allergens added when I specifically said I was allergic. In a previous visit it was tomatoes. I get violently ill after eating them. Luckily I was able to remove them. We also got sick within at most a couple of hours of eating. Returned a few times in the last number of weeks. I will give credit that the food and service has gotten much better since my original review (see below).

The staff are amazing! That is one thing I will say! Unfortunately the menu has now changed and they removed some of the more interesting burgers. Also the buns seem to have changed. Too much breading. My wife and daughter who are celiac also noted the gluten free bun has definitely changed and was not good at all. They ended up discarding the bread altogether.

Long time patron of this establishment. My previous review would be 5 stars no problems. Unfortunately this has changed and I will not be returning to this location at least. On Friday my family and I went for dinner. Noticed something strange. New staff, entire new staff all Indian. Ok no problem. Was told they changed owners just the previous day and were training new staff. Where told from one employee who they retained to train the new team that all staff was fired and others walked out. Problems included waited 30 min for drinks. Brought wrong drinks. Ordered white wine. Was not refrigerated. Food came but not all of ours. Just my wife and one of my kids. They did not put a gf bun as requested for my celiac daughter. Lucky we noticed. Wife took a bite. Beef was raw. I like it pink but this was raw and it ain’t no steak. Cutlery and cups were all dirty. I didn’t get my drink cause they had no clean glasses. Took over an hour before we all got our meals at different times. Mine went back. Wrong order and raw. Should have done what three other tables did. Just got up and left. Very unfortunate and a very bad reflection on the works burger brand. Never again

Update July 3: I received a call from the regional manager who said he has personally gone to the location today. I appreciate their commitment to making things right as I have had good experiences otherwise. Once I return to this location if service and food has improved I will update my review

I don't usually write negative comments about restaurants or places I go to, I always try to write or stay with the positive but this time I won't resist and I do it more so that people think well before going to this place. To begin with, everything started badly from the moment I opened the door for a young man who was there from the beginning, it seemed uncomfortable as if he was new or did not want to be there, we were 8 people and sat at a table of 6, I went to tell him to please move us to another table, he signaled to me that he was on the phone and that she was busy, he began to walk through the kitchen when he finally passed us to the table of 8 and until then I saw her again, she did not ask us about the drinks or bring us a children's menu, I had to call a waiter after 20 min, yes, 20 because nobody paid attention to us and the place was not full, the case and in order not to make this review longer, they took our order, it took more than 45 min, I was inviting my relatives and in one of the salads a piece of plastic came out OMG and when we told the waiter (after calling him for about 15 min) he said: ohh sorry in the end they didn't charge for the salad NO WHAT KIND.
