Delicious from start to finish!
Today marked the grand opening of Kohinur Indian Cuisine in Binbrook. It was certainly grand in my books. Their menu has all the dishes you would expect from an Indian restaurant. In fact, it was difficult to choose which one to have as my first experience. In the end, I choose the Chicken Vindaloo. I am always curious to see how a restaurant handles a dish with heat. It's easy to make something "hot", but it takes skill to make it delicious as well.
This dish ticks all the boxes. The potatoes are perfectly cooked without being mushy and the generous portion of chicken is tender and moist. The real star though, is the sauce. Although I also had some samosas to go with my meal, I had to get out an extra slice of bread so that I wouldn't waste any of the sauce. Yes it's hot. As hot as you can expect a Vindaloo to be. It's also complex. The heat is not up front, but more of an accompanying part of the dish. I wish I had saved some for later!
As far as the samosas go, it's tricky to cooked a fully stuffed samosa without it being too greasy. The temperature of the oil has to be just right. These samosas have a wonderful crisp exterior and the center doesn't become saturated with oil.
You absolutely must try the desserts available at Kohinur. Don't be fooled by their small sizes. These sweets pack a punch. After a spicy Vindaloo the cool creamy texture and sweetness was a perfect way to end the meal.
If you love curries you won't be disappointed!! Highly...
Read moreWe went here tonight for dinner, we ordered the butter chicken, karhai paneer, seekh kebabs, samosa Chaar, and 4 naans.
We will start with the pros first.
Pros)
Now on to the cons
Cons)
butter chicken, the chicken was not cleaned very well, there was skin that doesn't cook down in the cooking process that was really really annoying.
the seekh kebabs (beef) felt like they were done before hand and then warmed up, it was dry, tough, it was quite off putting.
the last thing was the quantity. For the price we paid it was not worth it. The butter chicken had 3 pieces of chicken. The kadhai paneer had 5 pieces of paneer, for the same price you can get a lot more and other Indian restaurants, so I'm not sure why their quantity is so little.
At the end of the day, while we did enjoy the flavour of the food, we were disappointed with a few aspects of the food especially the chicken not being cleaned properly. We would try this place once more to see if things have changed after this review but wouldn't recommend coming here until those changes are made.
I also have pictures of the chicken that wasn't cleaned properly but didn't want to put it up as it's not the best picture you'd want for a restaurant.
If you have made it all the way through, thank you, hope you...
Read moreCalled in an order for pick up on Saturday at 545pm. Order was confirmed for pick up at 7pm. Arrived a few minutes before 7 and there was clearly an issue with the only table of patrons and the staff. When that was resolved my bill was tallied and I was charged - ended up being cheaper then I thought but was then notified that this was because they didn't have one of the items we had ordered. A bit frustrated that this wasn't told to us earlier since we would have ordered another main. By this time its 710 and we are told that they do not have the food ready and they would deliver to us when it was ready in 5-10 minutes. I returned home and waited 30 minutes before calling to see where the food was. We tried calling for 5 minutes but were unable to reach someone, finally we spoke to staff that said they were on their way, food arrived at 755pm. Food was cold (probably sitting there for awhile before delivery), the naan was open and had spilled all over the bag, some of the naan was clearly burnt, one of the dishes clearly had frozen vegetable mixture instead of fresh veggies and flavour was lacking. Extremely disappointed that this was such a negative experience and the lack of upfront...
