This is the best pizza place in town. I cannot rave about them enough! I have never seen a pizza place so generous on toppings.. When you get extra cheese you don’t have to second guess if you got extra cheese or not unlike every other place I’ve been to in Hamilton… The prices are beyond reasonable, but better than that you get what you pay for and then some… Pizza Hut is across the street and this place is still busy every single time you go in there.. They are obviously doing something right. Covid never impacted their quality so if I eat out I’m giving them my money every time. We get delivery just as often as we pick up and the pizza is so fresh and hot, we need to leave it to cool.. Even on busy nights if they’re backed up. When they get backed up the owner will deliver it himself.
Such a wonderful family running the store, the owner is so sweet and you know it’s not fake because their kids working there are also so kind.. I feel like they genuinely appreciate me as a customer. I haven’t had a problem yet (which is crazy considering how many times we have been here) but I am sure if I did he would resolve it without question. To be honest the owner & family are so incredible that they are part of the reason we eat more pizza than I’d care to admit. I love supporting this family…. Thanks guys & see you again...
Read moreNational Pizza on Upper James has a well earned reputation which emanates from quality service and welcomed value. The aura and personality are what I would describe as "friendly, greasy-spoon".
The menu is rather expansive and arguably unfocused (with offerings like bacon poutine, shawarma poutine, chicken fingers, meatball subs, rice balls, etc).
The pie itself is utilitarian; it is designed more to sate a large group than to please the discerning pizza lover. The flavour profile of the sauce was quite thin. It felt somewhat diluted and flat, wanting for personality and bite. The cheese was ample, conventional and pleasant while the toppings were fresh, very well proportioned but echoed indistinctly.
The bread and crust were well cooked and have the density and body of your average regional pizza chain (Pizza Pizza, Gino's, etc). Overall, National is an unassuming, monotone pie. It is a pie which is eclipsed by the zest, vision and technical skills of some of its local competitors and I believe it to be just a face in the crowd.
Despite the lack of lipstick, it is a friendly, accommodating face with a shimmering smile. It is a good, generic pizza.
I give it a 6.4 on the world scale and a 7.2 on the Hamilton...
Read moreMy family recently found this little gem and holy crap this is by far The best or one of the best pizza place we have ever had. Me and my family ordered pizza once or twice a week (I know that’s not healthy) so trust me when I say we have been through our fair share of pizza location. Back when they close our go to pizza place in the early 2000 (Romas on Bay and York) we have bounce around 100 different places, but never really settled, until now. The toppings are so plentiful and so fresh it’s amazing. The delivery guy is friendly and never pushes you to tip even helps me in the house with the pizza because I’m dependent on oxygen. We normally get two large pizzas and are never able to finish them, we are now glad to say we have had two empty pizza boxes twice a week for two months now. Somehow, this place is cheaper than most other places. Even though they are cheaper than other places, they do not skimp on the toppings, the quality the cheese and the speedy delivery. In summary: You don’t need to look anywhere else you found your families pizza place for...
