My son and I were craving Thai and wanted to try somewhere new. We found Thai Waterdown on Google and decided to give it a try based on the reviews, which are mostly accurate.
It’s located in a small plaza with a decent amount of parking. It’s very nicely decorated with a limited number of tables. The seating and ambiance is quite comfortable and it has an upscale feel.
Our server was friendly and patient, as we took some time to decide what to order. We ordered the shrimp chips to start and then decided to share the chicken Panang(Thai Panang Curry, Coconut Milk, Green Beans and Peanut sauce), Pad Thai with shrimp and chicken and steamed rice. We had never tried Panang before and I actually cut and pasted the description above from their website.
The food was served quickly with generous portions. The shrimp chips were very tasty and served with an amazing peanut sauce. The pad Thai had a nice flavour and generous amounts of chicken and exactly 3 shrimps. The Panang was excellent. Flavourful and not too spicy (they can adjust to your preference) and served with a good amount of chicken. It went very well on top of the rice.
Overall it was an excellent meal, at a very reasonable cost, with generous servings. And we had enough for leftovers. Served in a very nice atmosphere with great customer service. They appear to do a lot of takeout and delivery and they were very fast and efficient from what we observed.
I would highly recommend Thai Waterdown for an authentic Thai dining experience or for takeout. I will definitely return as it was well worth the short drive...
Read moreI hardly EVER leave a bad review, but I am passionate about Thai food. The atmosphere here is ok , and the staff are pleasant and accommodating. As a long time Asian diner and practiced maker of Thai meals, originating from Vancouver and Toronto, I am not certain why this restaurant gets such high reviews. Honestly, I have eaten there twice, did not finish my meal either time, and did not think the food was authentic Thai or well prepared either time. (I question how fresh the beef was.) Fresh rolls were tasteless and I doubt fresh hot Thai bird peppers or real Thai holy basil were used where food is supposed to have heat. (My first thought was that the food had the markings of Vietnamese-style taste, which is more subdued.)
Travel on to Burlington or Hamilton Centre to a more established Thai cuisine restaurant to compare; but I suggest not judging Thai food by this local restaurant alone. (Sorry! I really went back WANTING to like it after a very lack luster first meal on...
