This is our first time in tea at the White House and we had an amazing experience. We called in the morning to check if they take walk in today, even though they are closed for a private event at 1pm, they were still able to take us at 11am. We ended up arriving a little later than expected but the owner was very accommodating and we called in to order in advance along with our revised ETA so our order was prepared before we were seated and our set arrived about 5 minutes in. That made our experience really smooth and we were able to return the table before the private event starts without feeling rushed at all. Very happy and grateful for the arrangement.
As for the order, their scones are made absolutely to perfection, buttery, moist and fluffy. They pair really well with the house made jam. We got the vanilla berries and strawberry jam, the classic strawberry one turns out to be my favourite. There is a buttery aroma as soon as you enter the tea room that makes you really look forward to the scones and they certainly lived up to the expectation.
The sandwiches were pretty decent and refreshing but not much of a wow factor (sandwiches are sandwiches).
However, the sweets are a little bit of a letdown - both the cheesecake and cake with pink icing were too sweet to our liking. We ended up scraping the icing off in the end. The sponge cake was light and refreshing with a hint of citrus flavour so that was the only piece that we could have without chasing with tea afterwards.
All in all we were very happy with our experience here and would definitely come back, but maybe get the set without the...
Read moreI want to start off by saying that "Tea at the White House" is a very fine establishment, very expensive and a very large selection. There are 350 teas alone. Very impressive. What got me was that I followed the instructions to book a reservation for my father's "93rd" birthday. I filled in the reservation with the appropriate message that we would be attending at the time specified to celebrate this amazing occasion at their establishment. I mentioned not only on the reservation form that it was a birthday occasion but also at the establishment to the girl behind the counter as well as our server. Not once did the server or anyone who worked there bothered to extend a birthday wish to my father. So what is the purpose of writing specific details on a reservation form or even mentioning to the people who work there that it was a special occasion. I was very disappointed in the care and kindness in which the establishment did not even extend a birthday wish. Not very impressed and not very happy. I would not recommend "Tea at the White House" as a place for a birthday celebration. Finally, loved the tea, loved the scones and loved...
Read moreI enjoyed the "Christmas Tea" with two friends. The tea house is in a small plaza so lacks the character of other tea houses I have been to. Although inside was also lacking in characterful period features, it was warm and bright with comfortable seating.
There were 3 sittings, 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. You are allotted 90 minutes for your visit which is plenty of time. We did feel a bit rushed by staff, however. We weren't even 15 minutes into our visit when it was suggested that, if we wanted any tea to take home, we should let our server know "soon". We did order tea at that point and were then immediately presented with the bill and debit machine for the purchase. It interrupted the flow of our conversation and enjoyment of the tea and treats, making us feel rushed.
As far as the food, the spinach dip was good, the sandwiches were good, the scones were outstanding (maybe the best I have had) and the desserts were okay.
Whilst I have had other tea house experiences that had a bit of an edge over this tea house, it was good and I would suggest you give it a try if you are looking for tea...
