Date of Visit: Sunday, March 3rd, 2024 (and Many other visits) If you have never been to the Royal Coachman, you really need to go. We visit quite often - in the area of once every 2 months. It is a favourite place for us because it is a convenient meeting place for us to enjoy dinner between Guelph and Hamilton, and the food is always on point. I have become addicted to one meal in particular - Their fried chicken sandwich. I have had fried chicken sandwiches in many places - pubs, shacks, better restaurants, food carts, etc. and hands down my favourite is the fried chicken sandwich at the Royal Coachman. They shove 2 huge pieces of fried chicken on a a bun, smother it in their hot honey sauce, toss on creamy coleslaw, and serve it with a huge mound of fries. The chicken is perfectly cooked, and while I rarely comment on coleslaw - they have found a way to make coleslaw noteworthy. I always ask for extra honey sauce because it is SOO good, and seriously - there is so much chicken - it needs (deserves) more. While the chicken sandwich is my go to menu item - let it be known that this is not the only amazing thing on the menu. I had the grilled chicken club sandwich on marble rye and it was so good. They load it up with greens, delicious aioli, and veg. The chicken is the Star - beautifully seasons, flavoured and cooked, but dont forget the 4 HUGE slabs of thick cut bacon that is on the sandwich as well. Their fish & chips are delightful - and fresh - and I highly recommend their Pot Pies. They offer a rotating option of Pot pies - sometimes curry, turkey, chicken, etc - and when you are there - ask the server about the pot pie flavour. The crust is flaky, delicious, and light. You will not be disappointed. they have a full bar - with a great selection of beers, and cocktails. in the summer - they have their outdoor patio - which is a beautiful oasis. The trees provide shade and coverage (even from rain - which we ate in a few times) The Patio is an extremely popular spot. The prices at the Royal Coachman are very reasonable - very affordable. The service is always impeccable - the servers are always friendly, pleasant, attentive, and helpful.

The Coachman – Waterdown & Burlington’s Finest Pub Vibe If you're looking for that classic pub atmosphere with an unmatched draft selection, The Coachman is the place. Between Waterdown and Burlington, no spot quite captures the essence of a true local pub like this one. The layout is organized, the vibe is relaxed, and although parking can be a bit tight—let’s face it, you can’t win 'em all—it’s worth the effort every time. Tuesdays are a hit with Trivia Night, making it a perfect place to unwind, test your brain, and enjoy a pint or two. The staff? Top notch. From the bar crew to the floor team, everyone’s got great product knowledge and a solid handle on service. A special shout-out to Lee (even when he's in ā€œdo-not-disturbā€ mode šŸ˜‚), and the always-welcoming Angel and Carissa—super friendly, professional, and accommodating. Now, let’s talk about the real star: the fish and chips. Absolutely phenomenal. The fish is fresh and perfectly battered, the fries are crispy and golden, and even the slaw is top-tier. It’s one of those meals you genuinely look forward to. The Coachman in Waterdown isn’t just a top-tier pub—it also has one of the best patios around šŸŒ³šŸ”„ Surrounded by mature trees, it’s cool on hot days, cozy when it’s chilly, and the perfect spot to kick back outdoors. šŸ»ā˜€ļø Full food service, fully licensed, and yes… the draft is still ice cold. šŸ§ŠšŸŗ Inside or out, this place just gets it right. Shoutout to the awesome staff (you too, Lee 😜) and that unbeatable fish & chips. #BestPatioVibes #WaterdownEats #CoachmanPub #ColdBeerHotDays Keep it up, Coachman crew—you’re doing everything right. Can’t wait for my next visit.

I believe Friday night dinner at The Royal Coachman was the first time I've had dinner in Waterdown. What a treat! BH and I joined Mother's birthday party for Friday night fish and chips. Truth be told, neither of us much like Fish and Chips, so while the rest of the birthday party ordered the dish of the birthday boy, we went with the super delicious macaroni and cheese. Terrific service (no problem with individual checks), outside-birthday-cake accommodation and domestic bottled beers aren't the only reason we'll come back: the large serving of macaroni and cheese is a big bowl of cheesy, piping hot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐! As a nod to the surf, however, we ordered the appetizer special: bacon-wrapped scallops. They looked a little tiny, but there were lots of them (party of 8 had two each and a couple may have had 3). They were really well done! Bravo! Happy Birthday, Mother! Open every day for lunch, closing MTW at 10:30, Thursday at 11:30 and FS at 12:30. Lucky Waterdownites!

I can't say enough good things about the staff at the Royal Coachman! My father and I chose to leave our reservations at another restaurant when the staff/owner's behaviour made us uncomfortable. We decided to instead go to the Royal Coachman because my Dad remembered liking the food there.

From the MOMENT we arrived we were greeted warmly, welcomed, allowed to choose a quieter table at the back to talk and catch up, and were immediately put at ease. Our server (who's name I wish I caught!) was so friendly, sunny, and pleasant to talk with that the contrast to the other restaurant nearby was shocking. In the best way!

Our food, though your standard pub fair, came out quickly, and was warm and tasty. I had the Chicken and Brie panini, which was a big portion and warm. I had the Greek salad for my side and they had absolutely no problem leaving out the onions for me. My water was also always full or our server not far to bring me another. Our lovely server also helped me pick a dessert (the triple chocolate brownie!) when I couldn't decide and she didn't steer me wrong.

The atmosphere is also fantastic. Every table has an umbrella and the trees overhead also provided nice cover from the sprinkling of rain that came and went. The string lights were pretty and I'm sure even nicer once it's dark out. The vines and flowers surrounding the entire patio were beautiful, I even asked my Dad if he recognized one type of flower because I'd love it in my own garden. Overall, I felt peaceful and like our Father's Day celebration was saved.

I'd also like to say that the server's uniforms all look comfy and as though they're allowed to wear what makes them feel best. I appreciated seeing them in running shoes, shorts or leggings, the still very recognizable uniform shirt (excellent for not mistaking any guests as staff since they're bright yellow!) and a sweater if they were too cold. As a previous server myself, that's a huge plus and bonus marks to ownership/management! It's a hard job, and I'm happy to see it seems that their comfort is considered when so many other places opt for cleavage over comfort.

I called to sing the staff's praises to the manager and he was also friendly and kind. He seemed to know he had a great staff, which is another bonus point from me. It really shows that the staff here are selected well, great at their jobs, and that any training that goes on has them working as a cohesive team. I think I've found my go-to spot for a drink, lunch, or casual dinner!

Thank you to the Royal Coachman for the wonderful...
