Chow's Garden — Restaurant in Hanover

I have been going to this Restaurant since the 1970's when Ma and Pa Chow operated it and have always loved their Food and never had a complaint. Yesterday Evening Sunday Dec 17th 2023 was a game changer for me. Our Order came to $68.00 and it was the worst Chinese Food I have ever eaten and had to throw some of it in the Garbage. The Egg Foo Young was the worst. It was mainly all Bean Sprouts with very little Egg in it, and also very little Gravy. The worst was The Rancid tasting oil it was cooked in. It even smelled rancid. The Combination Platter I bought was dried out, I could hardly swallow it. The Chicken Noodle soup was all noodle and very little Broth in it. This was a Take out order. They have the sit down area closed for some time. I will nor be back for some...

Three dishes ordered. Two were poor quality. Not fresh, tough chicken, couldn’t even cut it with normal eating utensils. Very few veg in dishes, mostly tough chicken. Not up to their old standards when you could count on it. Most of it being thrown out. $45. Very Disappointing. Day two eating leftovers which I normally look forward to. But this time it’s just annoying me again. The only thing that makes sense to me is that we were given leftovers made a day earlier, or something like that. Food NOT fresh. But some reviews are very good. So, luck of the draw from day to day I guess. But they need to make a consistently good product, or shut the door and close the business. Experienced this location for the first time in many years. Moving back to Hanover after 25 years in Toronto and wanted to see if it was any good, being spoiled with great variety in Toronto.

The quality of the food was actually very good. The taste and flavours, along with portion size was good for the price.

However only 3 stars as both meat dishes (one chicken, one beef) were mainly vegetables, and mainly onions with very little celery, green peppers, carrots. It was mainly onions, with a little of the other vegetable and VERY little meat (proteins).

Would try this place again but order something else to test...
