The food really needs work — especially the fried chicken.
On Sunday, August 17, 2025, we came in as a group of three after four days of backpacking in Mount Robson. We were ravenous, having not eaten a proper meal in days. Excited after looking at the glowing reviews of this place, each of us ordered the Free Bird sandwich and upgraded our sides. Two of us got the classic poutine, while the other chose the truffle mac and cheese.
Unfortunately, our excitement ended with the first few bites. The poutine was mediocre at best — the gravy didn’t even resemble a classic poutine gravy. Worse, the chicken sandwich was bone-dry. Never have I had such a dried-out piece of chicken before. Honestly, I’ve had moister chicken from a convenience store. It tasted as though the kitchen had pre-cooked the chicken and then refried it to order (a trick some restaurants use to speed things up), or else they had simply overcooked it beyond saving.
We told our server, but she brushed it off, suggesting the sandwich just needed more hot honey. She brought three sides of it, and we drenched our sandwiches. Still dry. She then added, “This is how it usually is.” To which I replied, “It’s usually dry??” Eventually, a more experienced server stepped in, offering to bring more food. But by then, we had already wolfed down our sandwiches out of sheer hunger — we had just come off four days of camping, after all.
In the end, they gave us a discount on the bill and promised to speak with the kitchen. We appreciated the gesture, but honestly, the chicken needs a complete rethink. As for the poutine, it's not a classic poutine gravy - those who have had Quebecois poutines (and enjoy them) are warned. The truffle mac and cheese was singlehandedly the only saving grace. It...
Read moreAmazing spot downtown Kamloops! Although the downtown is a bit sleepy, we popped in here about 1230 on a Saturday. At first it seemed quite quiet and wasn't sure if that was telling for any reason. Within 20 minutes the place was packed.
The staff were all around amazing, funny, engaging and helped us find a beer my friend and I both loved. Some places get twitchy when you ask for a beer sample, which is ridiculous since an ounce or two of beer is what, like half a penny?? They encouraged us to try more and wanted us to find beer we loved and mission accomplished.
I was that annoying guy who asked for them to put the Jays game on. After a bit of a struggle to find the game it didn't seem like it would happen. Several different staff tried with no luck. I kind of forgot about it and appreciated they tried. Well one of the owners (I think), too matters into his own hands and quietly got the game on and it was awesome.
The food was unbelievable! I ordered the pulled pork with this southwest mushroom soup, I didn't know that was a thing, and my friend the spicy chicken sandwich. In minutes we were both covered in sauce and loving the choice we made to drop in here for lunch.
Although we were intending to visit the brewery next door we were glad we came here. The brewery for whatever reason on a Saturday wasn't open for another two hours which is odd for a weekend.
All in all, 10 out of 10 would recommend. The staff won't steer your wrong nor will...
Read moreIf you are strictly looking for a pub I'd give the Noble Pig a 5 star; however, if you are wanting to eat something, I'd give it a 2 star. The atmosphere is great, friendly, upbeat and casual. They have a large outdoor patio which is really cool in the warm summer evenings. There's tons of parking in the back of the hotel next door (Thompson) - it's an Imperial Parking lot and charges $1 / hr or there is city parking on the street. The staff are awesome and the customer service is excellent. The food, however, really sucks. I ordered the stuffed Yorkshire puddings, which sounded delicious on the menu, but when they arrived they were disgusting. The taste was bad, weird spice or something, the texture was gross and I sent them back and tried ordering the Mac N Cheese, thinking how can this go wrong? Well it did. It was terrible and so awful I had to send that back as well. My friend's meal was not good either, but I've forgotten what she ordered. The gluten free chocolate cake is the only thing I found edible on the menu. It was actually very good considering it was gluten free. The manager was amazing and came out and apologized profusely and gave me a $20 gift certificate. I think the types of things they have on the menu are good but that the recipes and methods they are using...
