Juicy, crispy, and SUPER flavourful, this place is like the warm embrace of your Grandma in food form. They have become a regular choice for me when I need something to lift me up and warm the soul. The Yeung Nyam is my favourite flavour, with rich and sweet Gochujang (fermented chili paste), it is unami and rich spice but not in a burn your mouth way, exceptionally good. The Korean cheese ball is also exquisite, maybe the best fried cheese snack I have had to date, made with a super chewy dough and stuffed with mozza, served with an incredible sweet and creamy sauce. I'd suggest ordering extra of the cheese ball sauce to dip your chicken, it's that good. Tong Dak has been nothing but amazing since they first opened and I recommend them to anyone you enjoys crispy juicy chicken. They are the only punch card offering restraint that I actually save the card for haha, one of my favourites in Kamloops.
Update: Tong Dak is still amazing, everything on the menu is as enjoyable as ever. I didn't mention it in the original portion of this review, but the French fries are quite good, they are the battered and fried style which makes them enjoyable at all stages of freshness from hot out of the fryer to the next day from the fridge. The Go-Ma (jalepeno and soy sauce) has become another regular option for myself in addition the the king, Yeung Nyam. It is savoury and mildly spicy, with a touch a sweet, similar descriptions I'd apply to the Yeung Nyam but the flavours are vastly different. And as always, do not forget the cheese ball, and eat it while it's hot, it's gooey crispy, chewy goodness and the sauce it comes with is sweet creamy cheesey excellence, my favourite for dipping the chicken and fries into.
Make Tong Dak a regular in your families kamloops dining experience, it is outstanding and we are lucky...
Read moreTheir fried chicken is the undisputed star of the show, this spot offers a delightful array of other authentic Korean dishes that are absolutely worth exploring. The fried chicken here is truly exceptional. The Yang nyeum flavor is, in my opinion, the absolute best – a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and subtly spicy that keeps you coming back for more. My husband, however, is a staunch supporter of their Gan Jang chicken, praising its savory goodness. Beyond the incredible chicken, Tongdak Korean Fried Chicken boasts other tempting options. Their spicy rice cakes (tteokbokki) are a must-try. For something a little more fun and equally delicious, don't miss their Korean corn dogs. The crispy exterior gives way to a savory filling, making them a satisfying and unique treat. Pro Tip: Be sure to grab a loyalty card to accumulate points towards a free order – a great perk for repeat customers (which you're sure to become!). Overall, Tongdak Korean Fried Chicken offers a fantastic taste of Korea right here in Kamloops. With standout fried chicken and a variety of other flavorful dishes, it's a definite must-visit for anyone craving authentic and delicious...
Read morePretty hidden since it was stationed inside of a food court but server was polite and made sure my partner and I's order was correct.
Food court was dingy but clean.
We only tried the chicken but my partner opted for an additional fried corn dog as she always wanted to try one.
Chicken was nice and juicy and the sauces complimented greatly. Although the prices were exorbitant, the chicken itself is much closer to real Korean fried chicken than most Korean fried chicken around northern BC. Still wouldn't say it's worth it.
The corn dog on the other hand was a massive disappointment. It was huge which left an initially good impression on us but after biting into it, my partner found out that the actual hot dog inside was only around an inch long and dry.
Over half of the inside was hollow and the thing costed nearly 10 dollars. The surrounding batter was okay but definitely a slap in the face for deep fried corn dog lovers.
Overall the food was not worth it for the crazy prices. The chicken almost saved it but $13/$14 for 5 pieces and a handful of fries...
