I have tried to email twice regarding my experience and never received a response.
We stayed at the best western on Sunday April 10-11th. We came to the restaurant for dinner at approx 630 pm. We were seated in the lounge, which did not have anyone in it initially. The restaurant was apparently too full to accommodate us. It was extremely dark in the lounge and made it very challenging to read the black menu with yellow writing. We were finally met by our server who took our drink order. With the beers ordered my parents asked for glasses. Those did not arrive and we had to request these again twice. I asked for milk as part of my childs meal - this was apparently not available. We were not told of anything on special, or anything unavailable.
We all ordered, and multiple items were out. No steak sandwich. No baked potatoes. I ordered a rare steak. It came medium at best, and extremely chewy amd full of fat. The risotto was all cream, no flavor. Very disappointing meal.
My dad and partner ordered burgers. One had one small piece of bacon. Other did not have any. The fries were all small little crumbs - like the bottom of the bags. Nothing had any flavor.
My mom ordered a chicken burger which apparently was okay.
I ordered the kids fish for my daughter - fries were the same. The veggies were just 2 celery sticks, one of which was brown.
One water refill of the small glass - I am pregnant and asked for more. No pepsi refill for my partner. No ask if my parents wanted another beer. And when they did order a beer initially with a glass - the glasses never came without repeated requests.
We heard multiple items were out in passing.
The lounge filled up after we sat and ordered. All tables (4) got their food before us. Our food took over 1 hour to arrive.
We got our bills and truly did not want to tip our server. She was horrible. No ask how the food was, no refills. She brought bills - mine was charged for the kids meal. She then told me it wasn't Sunday - then I directed her to the date/calendar and she discounted it. I had to ask for the dessert that was to go with the kids meal to go (and i never got a drink with the kids meal as it is supposed to be included), as by this time it had been well over 2 hours for us to receive food, eat/pay. While waiting for that, she was busy at the other table flirting in her extremely short skirt (I used to serve and am aware of what is tasteful and appropriate). She finally got my dessert which was half melted, but she then did not bring a spoon/utensil. She went back and got that as I requested one to be able to eat the dessert.
Overall, 2 bills and very disappointing all around. Tip automatically directs you to 15% or more, which truthfully we would have preferred none.
Next morning we had an AMAZING waitress (she used to be a dishwasher there apparently). Our food was AMAZING! We had refills, service, and it was quite enjoyable. Only downside was my kids meal was charged incorrectly but that was only a couple extra dollars and not worth bringing up.
We wanted to share our experience, as we all work hard for our money and also pick locations to stay or attend for meals, and with the variety of options, chose this location. Based on the dinner, we would never return. We expressed our concern to the hotel and they explained that then restaurant and hotel are not affiliated.
We hope this feedback helps to improve ordering, service and education of your employees. We also wanted to be sure that our April 11 AM morning server was praised and recognized for how amazing she was and how delicious the breakfast was, in contrast to our experience the...
Read moreDisappointing. This used to be our go to restaurant for a nice night out and quality meal. Unfortunately our last 3 visits have left us dissatisfied and searching for a new place.
Our last visit was a date night for my wife and I which doesn’t happen often enough. After being seen to our table, we asked for appetizer recommendations and decided on one. We ordered drinks and entrees and after 10 minutes were informed that it may be a while. After waiting 30 mins, the server informed us the entrees would be another 15 minutes or so. We inquired about our appetizer, were advised that she forgot to put them in. We did eventually get them, and they were good. Sometimes things just happen.
After another 20 minutes after completing our appetizers my wife’s entree arrived. It was average at best but the steak was at least cooked to order. It took another 10 minutes for my entree to arrive. Unfortunately my sides were not what was ordered and the steak, which should have been a medium rare, Chicago outside, was hard, dry and cooked well done. It was missing my Oscar topping and the baked potato. The vegetables were dried out and lethargic on both dishes. Presentation was more of a diner plate rather than fine dining. They asked if I wanted another entree, however by now my wife was half done her meal. I declined and returned it.
The disappointing part of this visit was not only the complete dinner being wrong and overcooked, it was the fact the serving crew could be overhead chastising me for ordering my steak medium rare Chicago. They could be heard stating that I should’ve been told that ordering it Chicago, I shouldn’t expect the middle to be a medium rare (even though my wife’s was as ordered). If they can’t cook a steak to order, they shouldn’t present themselves as a steak house. Any chef with even the most basic of cooking skills should be able to cook a steak to order. As far as presentation, if you aren’t proud of your dish, don’t send it out.
As stated the last 3 visits have had significant mistakes including presenting dishes that were clearly left under a heat lamp, dried out, bruised vegetables and bland flavours. I am not sure what has happened here, but for prices that represent a more upscale level of quality, it has been experiences that reflect a bottom end chain restaurant. One of Kamloops best places has become a place to avoid. It will take a significant overhaul before...
Read moreWe ordered the crispy brussels, tuna carpaccio, baked bruschetta prawns, a sirlion steak, and a strip loin with prawns. When we inquired about the tomahawk steak ($160) we were informed that the meat is FROZEN. When you go to a steakhouse, you do NOT expect frozen meat, especially for those prices. If I wanted frozen, I'd have cooked at home. Back to the food we ordered - Every single dish was reheated (microwaved?), nothing was freshly made. The brussels had a burnt aftertaste and were mushy, prawns were mushy as well. The tuna carpaccio was a tataki - I can't believe a place that tries to paint itself as somewhat of a fancy restaurant doesn't know the difference between the two. Both of our steaks were reheated, knives included. The knives was uniformly hot to the touch, so it seems they were thrown in the microwave / kept in heating along with the plate. My sirloin had a bad aftertaste, so after a few bites I just decided to pack it away for my dog to enjoy at home. My husband got his strip loin cooked to a medium when he specifically asked for MR. $260 down the drain. Our waitress was very kind, but completely inexperienced. The dishes came before the cutlery, thus we could sit there and revel at the poor presentation on our plates before we could taste it. We had to specifically ask for napkins.
This place is a mess, the kitchen has no idea what its doing, and the bar doesn't know how to mix a simple white russian cocktail. The only thing that tasted properly was my raspberry mojito.
Yeah, we should've complained, but we're not local and didn't feel comfortable kicking up a mess. I woke up the next morning upset with myself that I didn't say anything during the meal, but considering the way everything there is run, I suspect it wouldn't have made a difference anyway.
Go someplace else if you're looking for a nice romantic dinner.
Edit to add: I'm surprised to find out the place is owned by the same owners of Mittz Kitchen, because we were never disappointed by...
