I went to this restaurant with my family and 5 other family for the long weekend, On ordering our lunch we were being told that the wait would be around 30 to 45 minutes and just to place our order we had to wait in line for a good 15 to 20 minutes. While we were waiting for our food, one of the family member took out some water bottles and passed it on to the kids to drink as they were hungry and it was a long wait for the food, we also had snacks with us but did not want to eat it in a restaurant where we had ordered our food. A older gentleman( I presume it is the owner) came out and asked us to not drink outside water. We explained to him that we had ordered our food and was waiting for our food and the kids were hungry and the water was just to distract them, but he did not listen and asked us to take our water off the premises. He also had the audacity to call us cheap. Finally we agreed not to drink the water on the patio. As we waited for our food, he stood at the door way for at least 15 minutes watching us to make sure that we did not drink any water. I was really disappointed with the treatment that we got and made me feel as if we are stealing. Its not that we did not buy anything from the store. Our whole group had totally spent more that $100/- on our order and we were planning to buy ice creams after our lunch but with that kind of attitude from the owner/manager, we went to the pie shack for the ice creams. I have a feeling that this kind of attitude towards my family members was because we were Asians. I would say though the staff there was really nice and polite except for the older gentleman. I guess he did not want to do any business with people of...
Read moreWe ordered ice cream from this place as we've been here before and enjoyed it the first time. However, we went there recently and had an issue with the quality of one of their ice cream flavours. All but my husband's ice cream had freezer burn as if it was old ice cream. We brought the barely eaten ice cream back to the girl who was serving the ice cream and told her about the ice chips that were in it. She told us there is nothing she could do. We then asked to speak to someone who could, who also said that's the way it is and there's nothing he could do. He said he will direct us to the owner who made us wait for over 10 minutes. Before we were even able to speak to the owner my husband had to throw the unfinished ice cream out because it was melting. When the owner finally gave us the time of day, rather than apologizing, she told us she wasn't going to throw out the bucket of vanilla ice cream because that's how it came. I told her I wasn't asking her to throw out the ice cream bucket I was simply addressing the issue that the quality of the ice cream was poor. The vanilla ice cream we bought came from a bucket that was almost empty. To add insult to injury she told me, "how about I give you a dollar back?" My husband and I told her she could keep it. We DO NOT recommend this place as customer service is extremely poor and the quality of the product that they sell doesn't seem to be a concern to the owner. Next time we visit this area, we will go to the ice cream parlor around the corner. We definitely will never come back...
Read moreSlices and Scoops is one of those rare businesses whose customer experience has been changed for the better by COVID-19. On previous occasions, with the place over-run by people, you would have to order in advance of being able to see the flavours, and without a clear understanding of the options, and what was at stake when you ordered. Plus, the workers had a tendency to get a bit....judgey and snappish.
Now, it is a more civilized experience. You line up outside to get inside. Everyone is wearing masks, so you really can't tell what people are feeling inside. The lineup outside tends to be self-limiting, in that if it gets too long, people walk away, rather than crowd into the site, like they used to do. Sanitizing procedures appear to be adhered to, which is appreciated. The limits on the number of people in the store are respected. Even the customers I watched are taking this seriously. As for the products inside, they are your standard Kawartha Dairy ice cream. Pretty good. I was able to walk almost all the way back to the trailer park before I finished my double-scoop cone of Mint chip ice cream. My daughter got a Maple walnut with salty caramel in a cup, and she enjoyed it as well. I hear they sell pizza too, but we did not partake in that.
This being a small town, and everyone knowing everyone else's business, there are inevitably rumours and gossip that get tossed around about any successful business. I urge you to ignore them, and just enjoy the ice cream. ...
