Alcatraz Chicken — Restaurant in Kelowna

Extremely disappointed with the management at this location. I walked in, bells on the door chimed, a customer was sitting at a table waiting for their order. an employee was doing dishes and another employee was tending to the popcorn chicken coming out of the fryer while her manager was discipline her about not wanting to see her phone and needing to focus on helping customers. Ironically the girl was working to make a customer order the entire time her manager was leaning in a door frame ignoring the customer waiting to place an order (me). when he was done embarrassing her infront of her coworkers and the customers he walked through the kitchen (again ignoring me and not even bothering to look over to see it there were customers) and went over to the dishwasher to talk with them while they were busy working. When the manager finally recognized a customer was staring at them he proceeded to "thank me" for waiting. I then informed him that I waited long enough to hear and see HIS lack of professionalism while expecting it from his employees and then he tried to eat his words and change the story about what he was actually doing (claimed to be training) then I reminded him how long I was standing and waiting for him to pay attention to customers while he was "training" his employees to do the same. I finally suggested to him that he recognize what a back office conversation was and that he should practice what he preaches and that he lost a customer tonight. Definitely won't be back until this manager starts to act...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Alcatraz Chicken, a cozy fast food restaurant situated in the heart of Rutland. As a chicken lover, I was excited to explore their menu and I must say, I was not disappointed!

Ambiance (5/5): The restaurant is very clean and has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with ample seating to sit and enjoy

Menu Selection (5/5): Alcatraz Chicken offers an impressive variety of chicken items, ranging from classic fried chicken to wraps and inventive sandwiches. They also have a great selection of sides that perfectly complement their main offerings. I particularly enjoyed their butter chicken wrap

Food Quality (5/5): the quality of the food was impressive, and it was clear that the ingredients are fresh and thoughtfully prepared.

Service (4/5): The owners and staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive

Value (5/5): Prices are very reasonable given the quality and generous portion sizes. the experience and taste are well worth it

Overall Experience (5/5): Alcatraz Chicken located at unit 101- 225 Rutland Rd S is a fantastic addition to the Rutland dining scene for chicken aficionados and casual diners alike. I left feeling satisfied and eager to return — perhaps to try their famous bucket of chicken or one of their signature sandwiches or wrap combos. So delicious! We tried them for the first time - had the chicken tenders. If you like Popeyes, you will love Alcatraz chicken. The chicken is just as juicy, but love their coating more than Popeyes. Also isn't as salty.

I couldn't comment on the atmosphere as we had it delivered. Service was great and arrived on time.

2nd order. Wednesday, December 18th - We went into the restaurant this time. Very disappointed. The air smelled of rancid oil. We should not have ordered, but did and took the tenders home to eat as I couldn't stand the smell in the air. We were sick for the next day.

They need to change their oil more often and clean/ change the air filters.

We will probably not do an online order again, as I'll only order if I can go in store to smell the air quality, which will determine the food quality.

Very sad, as their chicken is the best in town.

Update: July 29th, 2025 Ate inside. Air quality was much better. Service was super friendly.

I had the Tender Snack (two piece chicken with fries and popcorn chicken).

Main chicken pieces were fantastic. Fries were cooked to perfection. Crispy on the outside and cooked just right on the inside. Popcorn chicken was not particularly special. No crispy coating. I miss the amazing coating they put on the chicken pieces.
