BE AWARE Never in my life has a restaurant treated me with such disrespect. I had dined here earlier in the week as I was waiting for transportation to the interior and had a wonderful eggs benny. This morning I wanted to do the same as I waited for my connection in Kelowna. This time I had just gotten off of a bus and considering winter driving condition, I was left feeling unwell and proceeded to the washroom, for fear of nausea or possibly worse... I had dropped my bags at the table and made a b-line for the men’s room.
Unfortunately the worst case scenario unfolded and in no way did I feel comfortable leaving one of the employees to clean up my mess (remember, I had just had a great experience a couple days prior and truly wanted to avoid any negative impacts having used the washroom after suffering motion sickness), so there’s a possibility it appeared like It took me longer than it should have, but I never expected anyone to be counting.
As I stepped out of the washroom and proceeded back to my table, the one and only person I interacted with since stepping foot in the building came up to me and uttered the words that “I needed to leave”.
Completely taken aback, I responded with “I’m sorry, I need to what? Did I do something wrong?” To which I was given the recycled statement that “I needed to leave”. Now I’m cold, starving, still not feeling 100% , but increasingly confused but more so embarrassed, so I asked the gentleman with glasses again “ why am I being asked to leave; I had just eaten here a couple days prior, dressed identically with no issues what so ever”
Again, my question was averted and he doubled down on ushering me and my suitcase outside.
As it stands right now, I was never provided any justification or reasoning as to why I was asked to leave. I can confidently say that I did my due diligence to mitigate all sensory input that someone was feeling unwell. I covered the sounds and even contributed my personal smell good to try make sure that nothing was going to negatively impact any of the other patrons of the establishment trying to enjoy their breakfast without losing their appetite.
I can be confident in saying that I had done every little thing I could have to mitigate any negatives stemming from being in the unfortunate position of feeling unwell and being cities away from your home.
To provide some context, I am dressed head to toe in brand name athletic wear and am clean shaven and polite. I was more than courteous when I arrived. I certainly didn’t look as though I lived on the streets or something, with 2 brand new suitcases and a laptop bag.
This whole situation is actually almost so unbelievable, that it’s bordering on laughable; if only I were joking.
Surprisingly enough, I was treated with nothing but the utmost kindness and respect at both the coffee shop I walked to after, and then again at subway after I’d gotten coffee.
This place though, but particularly this guy with glasses that left me embarrassed and uncomfortable, does not belong in a restaurant. In fact, I would not want this man representing my business as an employee or in the community
I pondered whether or not it was related to my attire, but that simply isn’t realistic as I had worn almost exactly the same clothes, and surprisingly intended to be sat at the same table as just a couple days prior..
The previous experience I had was stellar, so expecting to be treated with the same level or hospitality, this time turned out to be drastically and dreadfully different.
Before you choose this establishment for breakfast or lunch, give some thought to whether or not you want it crude and served with a side of disrespect; because if that’s not what you’re in the mood for, you’re better off going elsewhere. Unfortunately there’s just no way of knowing what kind of treatment you’re...
Read moreI do not often write reviews but I have to unfortunately write this one. Went for brunch with my family of 6 people at OEB. We are from Kelowna and frequented OEB since it opened. Unfortunately, both the food and the service have definitely been going downhill, but today capped it off. We arrived and ordered food. After waiting for 45 minutes, we asked why we had not received our food, as the table next to us, who were seated after we had ordered had just received their food. We were told that "the food for tables for 6 takes longer than for tables of 3"....even though we had ordered first. (what???) Apparently we were by told by the manager that if you are a table for 3 it takes 20 minutes for food and if you are a table for 6 it takes 45 minutes...I guess it doesn't matter when you get to the restaurant..... The server then went away, and came back to say that the printer in the kitchen had gone down and our order did not even get processed.....(how did all the other orders get entered and served but not ours??). After complaining to the manager about this, we were told that our food would be ready in 15 minutes.... When the food came, the eggs for the two egg benedicts ordered were just barely warm and one order was not cooked properly, but we ate it anyway....we also ordered an additional order of the fried potatoes....which never appeared... When the server brought us the bill it was for the entire amount and I objected, saying that we should get at least 50% off for the hassle, and the prolonged wait...not to mention the ridiculous excuses.... and to send the manager over... The manager came over and offered 40% off with two $10 gift cards for future use. I told her that I had to say that we were longtime customers and the service and food quality had been deteriorating.....after which she informed me that accidents happen.....plus new staff....plus recovery from a flood....plus the fact that we had only been waiting 42 minutes before complaining, and they got our food out in 12 minutes after that.....and ....well we ate the food right!! Well that just rubbed me the wrong way entirely! What manager corrects a customer on a 3 minute difference in wait time, or tries to make a patron try to feel empathy for the problems of a business when we are paying $20+ for what amounts to 2 eggs and some toast!?! Or says..."look how good we did...we got your food out 12 minutes after the 42 minute initial wait and asking after our food twice"??? I will not return to OEB and told the manager as much.....very disappointed, as this went from being a family brunch experience to a negative run in with a non-customer focussed restaurant...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would. Extremely disappointed and upset with not only the staff but the food and overall restaurant. Myself and four other moms decided to treat ourselves to breakfast this am. Fully aware Sunday is a busy day however we sat for over an hour while every table around us who was seated after us ate (tables of 2-4) This was not a number of people at the table issue. After an hour of sitting and politely asking when our food would arrive we were told it was due to every table seated at the same time. (Makes no sense) Four of our meals arrive while one girl waited 15 minutes for hers and we had no cutlery. When I say the food was burnt and over cooked I mean hard as a rock croissant, bacon that was jerky, eggs that where beyond poached and hard centred and potatoes that would brake glass. When we mentioned to our server and showed her our food she did offer to replace the eggs however at this point we’ve waited over an hour and to be honest the whole entire meals needed to be replaced and time was not our side and we where starving. She said she would take the eggs off our bills. And yes we did say that was not enough when we’re paying full price for these meals and okay eggs are removed from the bill but bacon, potato’s etc?! The whole experience left a sour taste. The manger and our server huffed and puffed at us multiple times. Our server at one point asked my gf what she wanted off her bill as a dollar amount and my gf replied that she didn’t want to be rude and whatever the restaurant thought was fair… our server took her bill and huffed again. We paid and did not receive a thank you for coming in NOTHING. We have no issue going out and eating and paying for an amazing meal but at the end of the day this was far from. On top of everything the washrooms where insanely disgusting and not one had...
