Visited ish & chips in Bridgeport today. Before I even get to the food, let's talk safety. Ontario hit a record number of COVID cases today and the only precaution taken at ish & chips was two pylons placed in front of the truck. Both owners on the truck did not wear face masks and did not have any sort of barrier between the customer and the cashier. A customer in front of us with no mask or social distancing etiquette was able to order, pay, and collect their food without either owner asking them to put on a mask. Customers are required to walk right up to the truck to pay, regardless of paying with cash or tap. From my experience, COVID safety precautions are not taken seriously here.
We ordered 2 pieces of fish, fries, and a side of coleslaw for $25. Portion sizes are smaller than expected for $25, especially with the fish. After ordering we waited half an hour for our food to be ready, which seemed like a long wait as the truck wasn't very busy.
Now for the food itself. The fish was poorly cooked. The batter was thick and very greasy to the point of being soggy, could be that the oil wasn't hot enough? Part of my fish was tough and chewy, which I hadn't experienced with fish and chips before. We were also only given a very small container of tartar sauce for two pieces of fish. The fries were fine, but nothing to write home about, they didn't seem fresh cut or anything. The coleslaw was a plain mayo version, not bad, not great.
All in all, not a good experience. The food itself is not worth the risk you're taking by visiting a food truck with such inadequate COVID safety...
Read moreQuite possibly the worst chips I have had in 60 years of eating from chip tricks. I am pretty certain that both the fish (which was mediocre) and the chips were frozen mass-produced products finished in their fryer. $20 for a small single piece of fish, a handful of fries (which was fine, because I couldn't choke them down), and a can of pop or a bottle of water. I have two sit-down chippies near me in Waterloo where I could have had better food and been served my food for less than I paid her. Will never waste my time or money...
Read moreGrossly overpriced and small portion sizes. It sure is fishy when a place doesn't tell you on the menu what type of fish is being used for the fish & chips; at $18 for one piece I'd expect halibut but something tells me it's haddock or cod. I can get 2 bigger pieces of fish for a dollar less elsewhere than what you charge for 1 and the quality is sadly even better at the other restaurant. Needless to say I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone; those prices for the portions are...
