Pepi's Pizza — Restaurant in Kitchener

This joint may be nostalgic for some in the area. I was actually recommended the pizza by a neighbor who described it with such enthusiasm. I have always believed there's no such thing as bad pizza. That all changed after trying Pepi's Pizza. We were SO hungry so we ordered pizza and garlic bread. Their pizza is reminiscent of back of the freezer flavored crust and toppings that lack any of the expected flavor. Feta tasted like it had been left open in the fridge to evaporate the flavors. It tasted like stale milk and the feta oddly lacked salt, like it had been washed away just like the olives. Olives had no salt and no olive flavor. Clearly a trend. Pepperoni was so oddly rubbery tasting and smelling. Texture was not rubber, it was off on every level. My house didn't even smell like pizza; completely unrecognizable. Ceci n'est pas une pizza if you know what I mean. After opening the box the rubbery smell of erasers and tires filled the room even more. I still took 2 bites since I hadn't eaten all day and I was literally desperate to eat the food we bought. First bite I was so confused. Surely, this wasn't pizza. I took another bite, that's when I was hit with the same unrecognizable flavor and texture. That's when we realized that Pepi's took our money proudly and sent the most sad excuse for food I've ever experienced in my life. We got scammed at the dinner table. The only edible item was the cheesy garlic bread. The bread was the freshest part of the meal. It lacked enough garlic spread to make an impact so it read more as cheese bread. I'm just happy that we had at least one thing to eat that night. The pizza went straight down the chute because I couldn't handle that pungent rubbery smell and dumpster dive taste. The Water Street Pepis Pizza has some beautiful old woodwork and stained glass. the washrooms are updated and clean. The staff are nice, fast, they always wear gloves while handling food and care about your satisfaction with your order. There are six tables for 4 and two tables for 2 if you are planning to go out for dinner. The big screen t.v over head gives it a sports bar feel. Now the food!! Their Pizza is exceptional of course. We always order extra sauce and double cheese, pepperoni, bacon and mushrooms. Its irresistable. They use real ingredients like bacon strips and fresh mushrooms. They offer subs,wings, lasagna and salads including Ceasar's and a few types of pasta salads which are homemade. See photos below. I have to mention the Munchies bacon sub. It weighs over a pound for anyone with a big appetite or ready for a challenge. You can order double meat and really give your belly something to brag about. It's so good toasted with extra chesse. For desert; You absolutely must give yourself a treat and try a big slice of home made cheese cake with several kinds available like chocolate and caramel, oreo cream and layered berries. I had raspberry red velvet cheese cake last time and it was amazing. Okay that's all I can think of but try it yourself. A truly famous icon pizza place only in Kitchener Ontario. HAPPY EATING. I have to change my review. After my one star review (left underneath this so everyone gets the whole story) the owner reached out and had me contact him. He then apologized and sent a gift certificate for almost the whole value of our previous order. Tonight we ordered again and gave Pepi's a second try. It was delicious. That is the pizza we have been waiting to try for sure. It must have just been a bad day last time. Thank you for caring about what your customers think and ensuring quality. We've been excited to try Pepi's for a long time, as we had heard it was delicious. We ordered two large, three toppings. The toppings were delicious but the Friday was disgusting. It tasted stale! We ate a total of 4 slices (between my husband, toddlers and myself). We had somewhere to be so it was a quick supposed and had no time to call that night, we waited until the next day and called to complain in hopes that it was just a fluke. When the customer service rep answered my husband explained the situation and told him we had the pizza left that there was something wrong with it. He basically said too bad. I have no choice but to assume this is what it always tastes like since he made it seem like it was normal on the phone. It's unfortunate because the are talked up so much. Utterly...
