Although the space gave off a cozy and guild like vibe. It was actually difficult to sit and play since the space is cluttered and not arranged well for seating and walking to see the board games. We had a worker ask us to put something away for them because the table and chairs was blocking the path to where they store unused things near the fireplace. We were already in a very tight spot and couldn’t move for them to put it away without us having to ask the people around us to move so that we could also move.
It seems like a lot of the traditional or popular games are very worn out to a point where it’s unplayable, had pieces from other games, or it was straight up missing pieces. This was particularly true for when we tried to play monopoly and tsuro. They also don’t have a good selection of 2 player games or card games. If they did, it isn’t organized/labeled well. The menu for food and drink as well was clutter and confusing to read since it had a lot of words I think D&D related but is was so cluttered and large even though there was like maybe 15-20 items in total that it made it difficult to find something to order. The front cash menu isn’t much better for readability either.
The people around us were mostly playing codename/codename duet and looks to be having fun so maybe if that’s what you’re looking to play then this is a spot for you. But in comparison to other board game cafes I’ve been to in Hamilton, Mississauga, and Toronto Adventurers Guild Board & Video Game Café was my...
Read moreAnother KW gem bringing the downtown to life and keeping it going at night. Too many places in DTK roll up the carpet at night, but thankfully this doesn't.
It's surprisingly inexpensive and there's loads of free parking in the evening, if you need. Lots of drinks and food bits. So there's your logistics covered.
The folks who run the place are super-friendly and helpful with games suggestions and knowledge. Ask for ideas - they'll have answers.
They have I-can't-understand-how-many games, all included in the cover charge. (Make sure you eat something too, so they can keep the doors open.) Video games, board games, all genres, and so forth. Simple, complex, and everything in-between. Huge shelves of classics and newer games line their walls. You'll find what you came for, or you'll find something else that may just become a new favourite.
Many games allow for two players, which is great because I went for a date night with my wife. Most are designed to allow for many more. I have a feeling that if you walked in there solo, the friendly nature of the place means you could probably join a group of strangers already in play.
We've already started to plan an extended family games night. If my sister is good with letting her young kids play video games, I think we're covered!
What are you...
