Good thing the food is good because the service leaves a lot to be desired. One time I arrived at 2:19pm sat there for 15 minutes before being spoken too... ordered the lunch special and was told (by the boss) "Sorry that has to be ordered by 2:30" I explained I had been waiting there since 2:19 and knew exactly what I wanted. I also showed her that I had checked in at 2:19. Nope, couldnt care less at all. Tonight wife and daughter wanted sushi, so we went back. This places customer service boils down to one thing "MONEY" not so much return business. We were seated, the place was pretty full, they had "Reserved" signs on 3 tables but kn one was waiting for them. A couple came in and didnt have a rez......The older boss lady death stared my plate and eye balled me as if to say "hurry up and get out more people want to sit down, we had been there for like 20 minutes at this point and still had rolls and tempura to go. So painfully obvious she didnt want to lose the customers, but why not look at the tables of people who were their before we walked in and had already eaten and were just gabbing away??? I even said "its pretty obvious you want us to leave" she said "insert fake smile no no take your time, then back to death stare at my plate lol Now it gets better, they always have a caucasian working but tonight they had two, both clearly in the twilight zone. Before I even had put my chopsticks down the plates were cleared from the table, while the second one through the debit machine in front of me assuming I was paying by card I guess..........she didnt even punch in an amount or anything as if I was supposed to handle that on my own too lol. We live in Bear Mountain so this is the Sushi place for this side of the overpass, sadly I wont be going back. They were great for the first couple years they were there but now they must only care about the flashy new location at Belmont Commons...
Read moreUpdate: There are some negative comments but the sushi here is not at all like grocery store sushi and the portions are generous. We had an exceptional experience this time but I am local and have ordered from this restaurant a number of times and dined in a few times now; it is always very good, at least 4 stars.
Original Review 7 months ago: I have ordered take-out a few times from here, but this was the first time I dined in with my son. We dropped in, but there were no booths available. We settled ourselves at a table, ordered drinks, and then I asked our server to let us know if a booth became available, which she did, and promptly escorted us a few minutes later. We had jalapeno bombs, Alaskan roll, Langford roll, salmon sashimi and miso soup. All were excellent. The sockeye sashimi was very fresh. I order sashimi a lot, and this was some of the best I've had. To really cap this, we were given salmon & tuna sashimi by mistake, but we had decided not to say anything because it was so good. Unbidden, the chef sent our table four more pieces of the salmon as he realized he had made a mistake. My son, who just moved back from Montreal, was thrilled with the sashimi....nothing so fresh exists there. The rolls were excellent, as were the jalapeno bombs, which I could not finish so I brought them home for the next day. Love the atmosphere, especially in a booth lol. The service was excellent. Thank you...
Read moreWe started off by walking in and not being greeted. It took a few minutes for someone to approach us, at that point they said there would be a wait, which was fine. After about ten minutes a hostess called our names and pointed towards a table. I stood beside one and said "this one?" nobody answered, so we sat down. A waitress came over a few minutes later and asked us what we would like to order, and she took our order. She brought over my water, and my significant other's root beer in the can. She then brought over my appetizer, and the sauce to my significant other's appetizer, but not the food itself. After about ten minutes, we reminded her about the rice, then she brought it over. She then brought over my significant other's sushi rolls and asked me if I was finished with my meal, we looked confused because I had not received it yet. She re-confirmed by saying "Done?" we reminder her that I ordered an Udon, she brought it over right away. The sushi rolls fell apart quite easily, but we're tasty. At the end of our meal it took so long for our waitress to come over, even though she had looked at us several times, that we had to flag her down and also ask a different waitress if we could pay. We were only asked how our meal was while I was making my payment. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the restaurant was clean and the food was...
