We are frequent diners at Swiss Chalet, but we typically eat at the Bedford Place Mall or Dartmouth Crossing locations. Because we have always trusted the quality, cleanliness, and consistency, we were very surprised to have such a terrible experience at the Truro location last week. First, we were seated at an obviously dirty table, clear that it had not been wiped down after it had been bussed, as there were crumbs and sauce on the table and the booth benches. As our server sat our family of 4, he went to clear the table next to us and watched me grab napkins and a bottle of sanitizer to clean the table we were expected to eat at. He didn’t say a word, just continued cleaning the other table. While waiting for our meals, I had gone to the washroom. The stalls had toilet paper all over them, seemingly having been there for quite some time, as the paper was dirty and torn, and obviously hadn’t been seen by a staff member. The soap dispenser had a pinch of soap left in it, the hand dryer was not working, and the paper towel dispenser was empty. When our food arrived to the table, one of our children had 75% totally burnt fries and their meal had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp. The sandwich they had ordered looked as though it was slapped together, much of the meat on the plate instead of the bread. Our other child had ordered the chicken tenders from the kids menu. The “tenders” (there should be 3 on the plate) looked like one tender had been cut into 3 pieces and fried. The French fries on this child’s plate weren’t burnt, they actually weren’t cooked at all. Yes, seriously. We decided we weren’t going to stay and eat what was brought to us, opting for a stop at Tim Hortons to hold us over until we arrived back home. I let the person I spoke with prior to leaving know that because we are regulars at Swiss Chalet (2-4 times per month), we know what we can expect during our time there. This experience did not come even a...
Read moreWe have eaten many times at this restaurant. My wife and I live in Moncton but most of my wife’s family live in and around the Truro area so Swiss Chalet is where we get together. Our experience on last Friday evening was something like we’ve never experienced before. There were seven of us. Our table was closest to the kitchen. The owner manager overlooked our table and it made us uncomfortable to having her observe us throughout the whole time that we were there. I feel sorry for our server who placed our order in the kitchen at 6 PM and was then left at the mercy of the kitchen. . At 6:45 I inquired as to what had happened to our meal. The owners daughter brought a cheese bread to sustain us while we waited for our food. It was not offered in a real apologetic manner but with a somewhat condescending attitude. It was another 20 minutes or more before our food actually arrived. From the time we entered the building until we left, it was an hour and 45 minutes. My wife and I still had a 2 Hour drive to get home It was a disappointment to have received such poor service. People came in and sat at 3 other tables after we arrived. They received their food and we gone before we even inquired about our meals. We’ll consider other options the next time we stop for a meal in Truro. My scene card number was taken but we received no points for the...
Read moreAs it is the festive season, I expected a lot more. The service was super bad and everyone around me was getting served before me. We waited for over 30min before anyone acknowledged me and my parents to even ask us for drinks! The cups were dirty and had Lipstick on them still, the table was barely wiped, the food was cold and the ambiance was cold too. Not sure if we were singled out by the wait staff due to our race or something, not sure if we didn't git the common demographic, that's how it felt anyhow. BUT it was just awful, all I can say is she was blonde, and acted like she's so busy but I can only see 2 tables Sitting in her section. Even the people coming in for takeout got their food and left while we were sitting waiting for acknowledgement. The food, service and atmosphere definitely did not meet any decent standards from any other Swiss Chalet I've ever been too, specially this festive/ holiday time of year. If you go there on a Saturday stay away from the blonde, and the old guy- not sure how they even work there, Michelle was the only one actually working and went out of her way to take care of us. Oh yeah and the manager was too busy joking around in the kitchen and non existent. Wouldn't show up even after I asked for her. This was so frustrating.
