Went to DeDutch this past weekend as a party of four. Two of which were family members from out of town that we recommended this spot to, because usually it’s good. However, this trip left us feeling disappointed. Upon entering the restaurant, there was no hostess around so we waited for about 10 minutes until someone noticed and we got seated. We were given menus but not approached by our waitress for another 10 minutes. We kept it simple— ice waters, a coffee, a juice and a hot chocolate without whipped cream. Again, we waited an additional 10 minutes, before the waitress came back missing a majority of the order. The waters were missing and the hot chocolate contained whipped cream— which was asked not to be put on. The waitress instead of simply saying I made a mistake, just proceeded to say we spoke incorrectly and she was just following what was asked.
Another few minutes, waters came out and so did the next hot chocolate, by a different waitress. The hot chocolate was terrible— hardly any actual chocolate in it and mostly lukewarm water. Had to flag down our waitress who seemed to be avoiding our table, and again didn’t address the mistake, just proceeded to call it ‘odd’. So, gave up on that beverage and ordered another different one.
Food came out and was decent— though not worth the price. The bacon was poorly cooked and hardly edible, the potatoes were bland, and the coffee wasn’t great.
All in all, the lesson learned from this would be to pay more attention to your customers, specially when an allergen is mentioned, and apologize for any mistakes made instead of making it a big deal.
Would think twice about coming back to this...
Read moreI frequent this DeDutch location about once a month, always in the company of an old French gentleman and his spirited granddaughter. It's become something of a tradition—unspoken but deeply felt. Without fail, I order what was once proudly called The Boeken Breakfast. Though it disappeared from the menu some time ago, it remains a quiet secret among those who know. You can still order it, even if it now goes unnamed—a small act of rebellion against time’s insistence on change.
The routine is comforting: the familiar clatter of dishes, the subtle hum of morning conversations, and the way the sunlight filters through the windows, catching the warmth of our gatherings. The Frenchman, ever the purist, swears by his crepes, and the granddaughter, with her youthful defiance, experiments with the menu like a chef in training.
There’s a certain charm to places like this—where the food is good, yes, but the memories are what truly fill you up. It’s not just breakfast; it’s the quiet continuity of life, played out in small, shared rituals. And for me, that will always taste better than anything on the menu.
Also, the waitress is super hot. Love that waitress we get her every time. Shout out to her, I don't know her name, but I don't know the Frenchman's name either and I come here monthly with him and his daughter so that's not saying a lot I don't remember my waitresses name anyways we love...

Our breakfast group visited De Dutch in Maple Ridge today for our monthly gathering, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. Despite the restaurant celebrating its 50th anniversary, the service and food quality did not meet expectations.
Out of the nine breakfasts ordered, six were served with cold and soft toast and hash browns. The kitchen staff appeared overwhelmed, likely due to understaffing, which impacted the overall service. One of our group members received their breakfast so late that the rest of us had nearly finished eating by then.
I want to emphasize that my intention is not to humiliate the kitchen staff, but rather to highlight these issues in the hope of a more satisfactory experience on our next visit. I appreciate the hard work of the team, but I hope management takes steps to address these concerns to improve service and...
