Sushi Misoya — Restaurant in Maple Ridge

To be honest, I was really hesitant to order because 1) the location is in a small run-down looking area, and 2) I don't expect a small town like Maple Ridge to have the demand needed to allow businesses to provide quality and fresh sushi. I could not have been more wrong about everything.

Sushi Misoya has easily become one of my favorite sushi places in the lower mainland. I can't believe that I can get high quality sushi for a decent price all the way out in Maple Ridge. I've tried other sushi places in this area, and I'd say that Sushi Misoya is the best - I'm blown away. I'm not sure how they manage to produce such high quality meals from such a small establishment.

Their rolls are delicious, decadent, and fresh - I would absolutely recommend them. The tempura is great, and the sunomono salad is perfect as well. We also get thrown a freebie dish because our order exceeds some threshold, and I won't say no to bonus tempura. Their staff is so friendly, the menu is extremely diverse, and every roll I've tried has been phenomenal - it's no longer about trying to order something "good", but about which order will...

I wish I could give this place a better review because the owners are such lovely people. We decided to go here after reading all of the other positive reviews but the food was very underwhelming. We ordered the tofu teriyaki but it was just some slices of tofu with no sauce and almost no flavor. Side veggies and rice seemed sad and minimal like something I'd expect in a hospital cafeteria. Clearly the tofu hadn't been marinated. The rest of the dishes were bland and lacked the finesse and quality I would expect from a $60 meal. I have had better sushi in a mall, I'm sad to say. It was for my child's birthday party so it was even more of a disappointment. I'm really baffled at the high reviews here. I'll be sticking to our usual sushi places, Sushi Gio and Halu Sushi, which are far superior and less pricey.

On a positive note, the service I received when picking up the food was kind and lovely. I really wish I could have said the same for the food....

By far the best sushi place I have ever been to in the Lower Mainland. Their food tastes incredibly fresh and light, and the family that runs the place is so kind. Although the restaurant is very small, it is incredibly clean and has a fantastic atmosphere. I have never been even relatively disappointed by one of my meals at Misoya. The only thing I would ever change is that I wish their miso soup was just a tad saltier, but that's really the smallest "complaint" ever. Service is incredibly fast and just overall exceptional; I honestly have no idea how they manage to make such high quality sushi so quickly.
