When you walk in the door of this place, the first thing that strikes you, is that the people who run the show take a great deal of pride in the work they do. The walls near the entrance are covered with community oriented achievements, charitable events participant plaques and family photographs.
The second thing that strikes you, is the smell of the eastern spices they use in the cooking. The smell doubles your appetite in an instant!
This is a restaurant where the owner serves you your meal. This is also a restaurant where the meal is absolutely delicious.
I am not a huge fan of vegetarian dishes. I always feel as if something has been left out if I don't get my ration of chicken, beef, pork or what have you. Yet here I enjoyed a curried dish of dumplings with onions, rice and bread and left the table absolutely satisfied.
My wife enjoyed her dish of stewed chick peas, salad, bread and chutney. If there's one thing to be said for this cuisine, it's that they KNOW how to do a satisfying vegetarian dish.
Be a little patient with the kitchen, they prepare everything pretty much to order, particularly after the lunch rush is over, which was when we arrived. The coffee was quite good too.
If you are in a bit of a hurry, you can get a couple of samosas to go.
Well worth a visit, priced a bit more than the average lunch, but then, it's absolutely top notch quality.
(The meat delivery arrived while we were there, and it's a local company, NOT the...

We just moved to Maple Ridge and hadn't tried Indian here yet. I've been to India and have been an avid eater of Indian food in Montreal and Toronto. We ordered papadum, that came with raita, and onion bhaji for appetizers. We were blown away... but it's hard to mess up fried food.
For our entrees we order rice and naan for 4 and chicken rogan josh, veggie kashmiri, and lamb vindaloo. We got the two meat dishes medium and the veg mild. The food was impeccable. It was delicious and authentic but had the quality to the cuts of meat that Canadians prefer. The spices and flavours blew us away. The naan was the best I've ever had and the green chilies they brought were fresh and tasty. I would have ordered spicier food. It was our first time so we had no clue on the spice level and I would have called the "medium" mild.
For desert I requested gulab jabun (which I usually only mildly enjoy) and I haven't been able to stop thinking about them since! They were so delicious, fresh and clearly made to order.
The service was perfect and friendly and fun and I have a hard time finding anything negative to say. The rice didn't blow me away (but it's rice) and real linens on the table would go a long way... But I'll go back and never even notice those things because the meal and wine and atmosphere was so enjoyable.
5 stars and my favourite meal in...

The second time we called and ordered (first time we tried the food), we ended up getting a couple of the common Indian dishes and a peshwari naan. The naan was burnt and tasted horrible, worst I've had so far between Canada, UK and US, even some the store bought stuff tasted better.
The mains tasted very odd and nothing like expected but I chalked it down to it being East Indian cuisine at first. No distinct coconut flavour in the korma and no slight sweetness, so if that's what you're expecting, maybe try elsewhere.
My dish tasted nothing like I expected, which doesn't really say much, but it ended up with me running to the washroom shortly after and spending a amount of time there. I thought I'd end up throwing up as well, luckily didn't.
Needless to say, any leftovers followed the rest down the drain.
Honestly, this is what I'd expect from bad greasy kebab shop and funny enough the kebab place down the road has been a great find and I'll definitely be leaving them a review as well.
If you wonder what happened the first time we tried to order, it was just peshwari naan we wanted to gauge what we should expect, unfortunately we were told that it would take an hour and a half. I get that it was a busy time, but that's a bit long for a simple naan. Perhaps we should have learned from that and...
