The greatest liberty and service a restaurant can give is the time and hospitality to the guests. Many modern restaurants are either over crowded, booked, or promotionally advertized to actract guests. What draws me to Socrates is the atmosphere. The interior is great, a nice blend of neutral colours and simple and complex design choices. What further helps the atmosphere is its availability, the quiet and calmness helps to engage in meaningful conversations.
The food speaks for itself when you have it. the Selection is great, ranging from greak, pastas to steaks. Everything has been so far fantastic and is obvious the quality control of food has been taken into account. The notables for me was the potato and the greek salad dressing that comes with most entrees. The potato was tender but not drowned in moisture, and the salad was not saturated with the dressing; complimented each ingredient very well.
After the meal or during it you have the options for beverages and desserts. I have had so far most of the dessert menu comprising of cake, and the only request I have is to have a selection catered to fruit lovers as well. However, if you are a fan of chocolate, it is worth it to try the place as a cafe as well.
Recently I have moved to maple ridge and was in distress about the choice of dining out being limited compared to coquitlam or burnaby. I am glad to have found a new greek place that is near and can call my favorite. I have already refered the place to friends and have taken my family as well, I would definetly recommend...
Read moreJust returned home after a marathon dining experience at Socrates in Maple Ridge. We were seated almost immediately after arriving and commented that we beat the rush as 4 tables were quickly seated right after us. Bit of a wait to order drinks did not bother my wife and I as we had plenty to catch up on after our busy days. Entrees were ordered as soon as the drinks arrived and then the waiting began! One by one each of the tables that were seated after us was served their dinners. My wife noticed that the couple seated across from us had received the exact same entrees that we ordered, the lightbulb went on when the gentleman complained that his wife had not received the addition shrimp she had ordered. I called over the manager and asked that he check on our dinner, after a few moments of hustling around with our waitress we could see them consult their ordering terminal and we knew they had messed up the orders! Twenty minutes later our order arrived with an apology for the wait but no acknowledgement of the error, the manager's response to my statement of "long time to wait for a meal" was a sorry and a quick turn of his back. The waitress did state that she would like to treat us to desert, we declined as she made it sound like she would have to buy our deserts. Not impressed by the service and disappointed the Manager would not step up to help his waitress, not even a thank you for visiting as he stepped out of his brand new Mercedes. We will not be back and suggest you try another local eatery before you help this guy pay of...
Read moreOur party of four enjoyed our meal together at Socrates. Our server was courteous and professional, and the food was very good. The lamb souvlaki was done to perfection. Our one issue was with the way in which we were “encouraged” to leave the restaurant We were the last guests remaining at 8:55 pm, and knew that the restaurant would be closing at 9pm according to the info on the website. We were preparing to leave when a staff member (chef?) came out of the kitchen and stared at us. We immediately took this as a signal to get going, although it would have been so much more professional to have come to our table to simply state that closing time was coming up and we needed to leave. As we got up to leave, the lights in the restaurant were turned off, making it clear that we were no longer welcome, even though we had spent over $200 plus tip for our meals. This didn’t do a lot to make us feel that our patronage had been appreciated. In future, please give your customers a fifteen minute warning that closing time is coming up, and for goodness sake don’t turn off the lights as your guests are trying to make their way...
