Came here on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago to celebrate a friend's birthday. From the moment Tyler sat us down he was attentive, kind, and patient with us. We came just before the end of the lunch hour specials and thankfully were all able to order off of it. I have a few severe allergies including, inconveniently, garlic, which can sometimes prove really hard when dining out. At no point did Tyler make me feel like he was not adhering to my restrictions and was always receptive in double-checking with the kitchen staff and assuring me that anything I ordered was free of garlic in any form. I ended up ordering some veggie rolls with tempura stuffed inside and so he was kind enough to bring me everything else from the combo I ordered as vegetarian as well, assuring me of this as he would place it in front of me when serving.
The food itself I'd say was hands down the best sushi I've ever had. Coming from a girl whose been to sushi restaurants in LA and to many locations around Richmond Hill, Markham, King, Vaughan, etc. Maybe my selection is limited and so that skews my judgement but I'm telling you, on top of presentation, service, and the mere portion sizes (I even had a few pieces left over for dinner later and they were just as good then!), this sushi spot is both friendly on the budget and absolutely delectable! I've always been a little hesitant about eating out for sushi on a Sunday, something about an old wives' tale, but this changed everything. I'd even dare eating here an hour before close with how delicious and fresh the food is. By the time we devoured our meal (which was quick because each piece was tastier than the next), we'd forgotten which day it was, wondering if they were preparing our meals for top chefs around the world. My friends have also asked me to include that the fish was very fresh and delicious as well, in case you folks wanted to know!
Nearing the end of our adventure, Tyler brought out a bowl of three massive scoops of ice cream for us with three Pocky sticks. He told us as he was setting it down that he heard we were here to celebrate a birthday? We were! What a surprise! He had not only overheard us but also taken the initiative to serve us a generous and complimentary serving of dessert. Which was oh so delicious, by the way.
Overall this was such a lovely experience. We didn't feel rushed (despite it being fairly populated throughout our visit, and were able to stay for almost two hours without feeling like we'd overstayed our visit). We had the absolute best server, Tyler, who I argue deserves a raise, promotion, recognition, free sushi for the rest of his life? I don't know! Anything! THANK YOU TYLER!! He was so amazing and we talk about it still how it was the best dine-in sushi experience we have ever had. Will absolutely be coming back, as it is 1000% worth the drive and sticky parking situation (small plaza with a lot of reserved spots and not so easy to maneuver around). Will be bringing friends and family to experience it as well. Thank you again, MiKi sushi. You were...

Location:
Miki sushi is a new a la carte restaurant serving Japanese and Korean food. They're located on the strip of plaza south of Hwy 7 and just west of Main St Unionvillle.
The plaza itself already has limited parking for their occupants. Most of the stores do not expect many customers all at once (eg. Spa, cleaners, nail salon, pet grooming etc). For this restaurant they have 3 parking spaces at the front and 3 behind. So if you are looking to come, be sure you have a backup of where to park. Coming in and out of this plaza also do not have the assistance of a traffic light which is risky during busy hours on this already busy street.
Interior is small and simple, only seats about 36 and has open kitchen to watch the chefs cook. Before this they were a Hong along style cafe named 金來屋, I can see that not much has been renovated.
Same owner as Hub Sushi.
Service:
Decent and kind service from the 2 servers who often came to refill my tea. They say us at a 2-seater and when my 3 dishes came (eg. 1 sashimi platter and 2 sushi rolls), we literally have no extra space to put anything else. They were very kind when greeting us upon arrival and saying farewells when we were leaving.
Food:
Please note, this review is soley on Japanese food.
Appetizer came with salad and a bite of noodle in soup.
Small sashimi platter (40 pcs) The quality was mediocre to disappointing for an a la carte restaurant. Nothing much out of the ordinary however, the presentation is lovely. For the price, I would pay more and go elsewhere for more enjoyable sashimi.
Miki Lobster Roll The roll came a bit unlike the image as shown in the menu which got us to question if that was the right roll. Portion was is very generous, it would be a bit difficult to eat the whole piece with one bite. Flavours are decent.
Fantastico Roll Also great portion for this deep fried roll. Good thing this one is cut thinner. Decent flavour and texture.
No dessert.
Overall:
Overall, if I were to return it would only be for the rolls (and to try the Korean dishes). The sashimi was a bit too disappointing. And as well I really hope the parking...

MiKi Sushi, located in the heart of Unionville, offers a variety of Japanese and Korean dishes in a casual dining setting. During a recent visit, we sampled the chicken bibimbap, chicken katsu donburi, and tempura udon.
The service was prompt and courteous; staff were friendly and attentive throughout our meal. Food arrived quickly, and portion sizes were generous, which is always appreciated. The tempura udon was satisfactory, featuring lightly battered tempura and noodles served in a warm, comforting broth. However, the overall execution of the rice-based dishes fell short of expectations.
Both the chicken bibimbap and the katsu donburi contained an excessive amount of rice, which overpowered the balance of the dish. Moreover, the rice itself lacked flavor. While it is unclear whether the seasoning was intended to reflect a Japanese or Korean style, there was a noticeable absence of the usual soy sauce or sesame oil notes that typically lend depth and character to these dishes. This resulted in an underwhelming and somewhat monotonous taste experience.
The dining area was moderately clean, though not meticulously maintained. One particular drawback was the front door of the restaurant. Each time a customer exited, the door would slam shut with a loud, jarring noise—something that repeatedly disrupted the dining experience and detracted from the otherwise calm ambiance.
Pricing was reasonable and consistent with portion sizes, offering fair value for the meal. While MiKi Sushi has a number of positive qualities, including friendly service and efficiency, there is room for improvement in both the flavor development of its dishes and the attention to...
