Very rude & did not want us as customers I guess.... Walked to Ginos last-night in hopes to sit on their covered patio, got to the front entrance right by their first front door, covid protocols are listed and one said “please wait to be seated” so we waited and waited.... server glared at us a few times while serving her tables, no wave, no smile, no hello. I figured ok she’s busy we will just wait (she only had 3 tables going and one was still looking at the menu & one looked to be finishing up their drinks, so didn’t seem to busy)... 5 or more minutes go bye and we still don’t even get a hello, there was also 2 lady’s working the cash till I guess you would say who glanced over at us a few times but didn’t bother to come out and say hello or ask if they could help us. I find this very odd, you walk into a place, wait 5 minutes, workers walk by and you don’t even get a hello or wave, we will be with you in a minute? nothing ....
So I decide to walk inside “hello we were hoping to get a table on the patio” A lady replies “oh sorry we have a list” ...... (like ok? wouldn’t you want to tell me how long the wait is) I said “ok no worries, but also just so you know we were standing right by your door for 5 minutes or longer and didn’t even get a hello and your server walked right past us several times”. The same lady said “OH well we don’t know if your waiting for pick up or what your doing” and the server said “my eyes are focused on what i’m doing” and waves her hands in like a straight direction. (wouldn’t you still at-least say hello? when someone walks into your facility.) I replied with “I just find it very odd how no one said hello and we were waiting for quite a while” The lady wanted to argue with me and shake her head when I said this I can’t remember what she said back to me as it was so rude ... I repeated what I said again and ended with Thank you and left.
Just found this extremely odd & felt very unwanted in Ginos so I won’t be returning. I love supporting small business’s during covid times and honestly would of probably waiting for even take out times if I was greeted like a customer should be. So sad...
Read moreWalked into Gino's with great expectations as a family friend eats there quite often. Well I can say after eating there I'm left Gino's highly disappointed. I ordered the Saganaki as a starter, not quite sure what cheese they use to make this famous greek dish, but it was totally flavorless ( apart from the fresh lemon juice I squeezed onto it) tasted and had texture a lot like mozzarella cheese. The main dishes ordered at our table did not fair much better... the moussaka dish looked and tasted like it was made 3-4 days prior and just reheated in the microwave. The bechamel sauce on the moussaka was a congealed mass of lumpy flour and cheese with a crust on it that looked and tasted like bisquick mix, and the rice served with the dish was cold. As for myself I ordered the weekend special Prime Rib (extra cut)... well to be honest as a person that has ordered many a prime rib dinner and cooked them myself I have never seen a cut of "Prime Rib" the shape of a slice of meatloaf. I would also be very surprised to find that the cut of meat was a Prime Rib roast and not a cheaper cut. The meat looked like it was medium rare as ordered, but was cold upon trying it. In my opinion as a past line cook the meat was cooked the day prior and sliced off the roast today and warmed up in the au jus. On the plus side if you want to try their sangria I was tasty. Though food wise if you want to try something maybe tasty I would probably recommend some kind of snack from the doggie daycare...
Read moreGino’s Restaurant is located in the heart of Sapperton in New Westminster. The interior isn’t much to look at and reminds me of a sports bar that’s seen better times… the furniture seemed a bit wobbly (the backing to my booth kept wavering back and forth so I had to make sure not to lean too hard).
I showed up for lunch on a weekday in June and the place was fairly quiet. The few patrons that were here seemed to be either people that worked in the area or some old timers. I decided to order their Gyro ($11.50) – pronounced “YEEros” which is made from ground beef and lamb thinly sliced and wrapped in a pita with tomatoes, onions, and lettuce and then served with a Greek salad and fries.
The first thing that I noticed when this platter arrived at my table was the huge glob of tzatziki that was dolloped on the top of the gyro. I tried to pick up the pita wrap but it was quite difficult as it wasn’t wrapped tightly and tended to flop around (perhaps the reason why they gave me a steak knife with the gyro was because I was supposed to knife-and-fork-it). The best part of the gyro was the warm and tender grilled pita wrap… sometimes when I get a donair/gyro, the pita is dry and hard to bite through but this pita wrap was soft and a pleasure to bite through. The filling was a bit skimpy in the meat department but the flavours were alright.
I felt that the fries were just meh and the execution of the gyro could have been better (would you like some gyro with...
