Golden Fish & Chips / Sushi Yama — Restaurant in Milton

Visited on Saturday, Sept 4 around 3PM - take out only.

My family and I were in the area and needed a bite to eat so we found this place listed on Google Maps.

Food was cooked fresh when we ordered, family run, antique looking place (should have taken photos) Art on the wall done by his very talented daughter.

We got 2 Halibut and Chips and 1 Haddock and Chips. Batter was good and definitely not greasy - just the right amount. Generous with the tartar sauce if you ask for it - we almost never have enough.

Portions were good. Fries weren't anything special but that's fine. Fish was good although maybe we were starving haha.

Unfortunately the salmon i received tasted off, the salmon sashimi, salmon nigiri and spicy Salmon roll all had a distinct flavor that was not pleasant it was almost as if the fish was about to turn. Dynamite roll also has an odd flavor no crisp to their tempura; seems as if some of the rolls were pre rolled. However, the sashimi portions are great, the tuna is good and fresh yellowfin but their nigiri is wayyyy too tightly packed, it's at least two mouthfuls of rice in one nigiri. I originally tried this place when they first opened and gave them time to iron out the kinks but I don't think I'll be returning. The price is also outlandishly expensive for what you're getting. The only thing worth the money is the sashimi but everything else is too expensive for what...

Yeah, the interior furnishings look like something out of The Mary Tyler Moore show, but ya just can't beat a $6.29 cod & chips lunch special that's on every week day 'til 3:00 PM. Fast and friendly service, the owner is just a sweetheart and there's plenty of parking to boot! You just don't see many of these places with the wrapped fish 'n chips in paper any more. Declining fish stocks are making even a meal like this expensive so...enjoy it while you can. Oh, and call in your order for take-out - it'll be getting boxed and wrapped as you walk into the door.
