The roast lamb is amazing! But the service was not. It was my birthday dinner, I got the kids settled down at home & myself all dolled up to go out for a fancy birthday dinner date at delicious Elaine’s. The lamb was what I was looking forward to all day, Elaine’s was gonna be the highlight of my bday. I told everyone about how excited I was for it. Our waitress let us order (we ordered quick because we were excited for it all day) and then while we were waiting for our food she rudely comes over and states “We’re closing!” And just walks away. Umm what exactly do you want me to do? Walk out? Leave? Why did I come here then?? She must have realized how rude that was because a few minutes later she came back and said “don’t feel rushed”…. Yea, how is that possible now exactly? It’s clear we are not wanted here. So when the food arrived we just scarfed and left, it was so uncomfortable. I didn’t get dessert- wasn’t asked if I wanted any. And as we were leaving she says “oh I like your look” … yea- this look? Like I’m trying to have a special night? Like it’s my birthday or something? We are both dressed up and it’s obvious we’re here for an occasion. Something I was looking forward to so much. It’s too bad, I used to love serving people for special events, it’s so fun to take their good energy and make their night even better. I used to love those tables when I served, I loved making their nights extra special with a bubbly demeanour. But this server was so absent and rude- she must have been having a bad day and just wanted to go home, but the kitchen was still open!!! I served for a decade, there is a polite and tactful way to let your customers know it’s close to closing time “hey, just wanna let you guys know the kitchen is closing soon, are you two interested in any dessert before they’re done?”… not just “WE’RE CLOSED!” So rude!! Do you even LIKE your job? I get it that ppl have bad days but it sucks that it got taken out on me & was the one time I get to go out for a ‘fancy’ dinner, Elaine’s was my main event. I was looking forward to it all day. Days in advance even- the lamb is seriously that good. Next time we will just order take out and dine at home, the experience at the restaurant was so disappointing and hurtful. Way to make a girl feel totally unimportant. This was the fanciest thing I was doing for myself now I regret making Elanins such a big deal. I regret being so excited for this place only to have my hopes let down. I’ve never had bad service here before but this was extreme. I was super excited about coming to Elaine’s and it was a bust. I don’t want to sit inside here again- I don’t want to risk feeling like this the next day. I’m so upset about it I’m writing a review! The bad service absolutely wrecked it for me. My birthday dinner ruined by a server’s bad attitude. Such a shame and totally unnecessary, my partner and I are polite, we don’t even ask for extra napkins, there was no need for this level of hostility. She didn’t try to upsell drinks or dessert or anything extra- she just wanted us outta there. Very unwelcoming and cold. The lamb was truly fantastic, so tender and yummy absolutely no complaints with the kitchen here ever, the food is always a 10/10 unfortunately the service left a bad taste in my mouth that’s still bothering me long after the lamb...
Read moreClassic North American Greek/Italian restaurant, with the food and atmosphere of such. Friendly, polite, and professional staff & owners. There's a reason it has been in Mission only ten years less than I've even been alive, and the reason is consistency. You know what to expect, and you get it every time. You can be coming from anywhere in North America, and you'll get exactly what you think you'll get.
Sure - you can find better. If you're going to a restaurant with 100 dollar per plate(at the lowest end)service, you should expect the best. If you're going to Elinis, and expect better - then you're disgustingly rich, and should be eating exclusively at the aforementioned 100 per plate baseline establishments.
In fact, one of the reasons I've become a more frequent customer recently, is quality vs inflation. The prices here more or less resemble what they were 20 years ago, and the quality has remained consistent - while everywhere else has inflated so high, so rapidly, with consistently declining quality and service. I can get a filling, good quality meal from Elinis for 20 to 30 bucks, while fast food like Wendy's is going to push towards(or even over) 20 bucks, for slop that isn't even made to their own chain standards.
Elinis deserves recognition not just for quality, but their insistence at proving said quality with as little inflation as they can. For this reason alone, I wish them another healthy 32 years as an establishment.
Edit: I should note that last time I ordered, I payed 10 extra bucks for a skewer of chicken soulvaki on the side. This was definitely not worth it. I got a tiny little bit of chicken - and while delicious, I felt ripped off. So there is some discussion that could be had about prices vs portion on certain items, but I stand by my...
Read moreWe arrived at about 5:30 pm on a Saturday. Lots of street parking out front. Was busy-ish, no reservation, seated promptly. Server was courteous and consistently popped by to see to our needs. The restaurant hasn’t changed much over the years but still looks good and is a comfortable place to eat. We ordered the seafood linguini with a Greek salad to start. The salad was fresh, crunchy and so delicious, as well as a really good portion. The linguini came with two pieces of fresh but crispy garlic toast and a mountain of shrimp, prawn and scallops. Lovely creamy sauce and the pasta was just right. Neither one of us finished it as it was a large portion, so leftovers for lunch tomorrow, yum. The only thing I will say, is the prices seem to have really crept up. While I didn’t feel taken advantage of, I didn’t feel like “what a great deal”. Having said that, we did take both entree leftovers home. It’s delicious food, it’s good service and a decent value. The Greek side of the menu is small, and they do serve everything from burgers to bbq. They have a kids and seniors section too. A great family restaurant that still won’t...
