Small cute Mexican restaurant. We usually go a couple doors down to El Mariachi but decided to try this out. Was craving fish tacos and the menu and reviews said Border had the "best" fish tacos in Mississauga. And so I ordered them, and a tamarind frozen margarita. I will say the margarita was absolutely delightful - so refreshing on a hot day, the salt rim was sweet and salty with a nice tamarind flavour and the drink itself was accurately tamarind flavoured and slushy perfection. The fish tacos on the other hand were...okay. I've definitely had better. The fish was battered, crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside, but way too small. And to me, fish tacos are about finding the right ratio of fish to toppings but also about the flavour (which often has to do with the sauce). And while the texture was good, the flavour was missing...almost bland. The sauce was basically just mayo-tasting and I would have preferred something with more of an explosive flavour. It did improve when I added some hot sauce and lime to it but I had to ask for those - and while it makes sense for the hot sauce, I believe fish tacos should come with a slice of lime. The sopes that my husband got were interesting. Our first time trying them and he got the chorizo ones and we loved the idea of the tortilla "boat" that holds all the ingredients, but again it was missing flavour. The chorizo wasn't even spicy AT ALL, and I'd always thought chorizo was supposed to inherently have a kick? Again the texture was there, but flavour was boring. We also had to add our own lime and hot sauce to improve it. (Our friends ordered the tostados and tortilla soup and were happy with their food but I didn't try it so I can't really comment). Otherwise speaking, our server was super sweet, very attentive and always made sure we had what we needed. As for food, I wanted to like it, but personally it was lacking flavour for me. Unfortunately I'm going to have to recommend El Mariachi for a bolder...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic Mexican restaurant, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience that left my entire family thoroughly satisfied. From the delectable food to the delightful cocktails and the warm, friendly staff, our visit was nothing short of memorable.
Let's start with the food. We ordered a variety of dishes to sample the menu, and every single one exceeded our expectations. The Birria tacos were a standout, with their succulent and perfectly seasoned meat. The Beef Picadillo had a rich and savory flavor that was simply irresistible. The Quesadilla was a comforting classic, and the Evil Shrimp lived up to its name, delivering a spicy kick that was wonderfully balanced. The Enchiladas were a crowd-pleaser, with a delicious blend of flavors and textures. And finally, the Tampiquena Steak was cooked to perfection, a carnivore's dream.
Now, let's talk about the cocktails. The drink menu was a delightful surprise, offering a range of innovative and classic choices. We couldn't resist trying a few, and we were blown away by the creativity and quality. From the zesty margaritas to the smoky mezcal concoctions, the cocktails were expertly crafted and perfectly complemented our meal.
What truly set this dining experience apart, though, was the staff. They were not only attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, but they were also incredibly friendly and polite. Their warmth and hospitality added to the overall enjoyment of our evening. It's evident that they take pride in providing top-notch service.
In summary, our visit to this Mexican restaurant was an absolute delight. The food was outstanding, the cocktails were amazing, and the staff was among the friendliest we've encountered. If you're in the mood for authentic Mexican cuisine with a modern twist, this restaurant should be at the top of your list. We left with full hearts and full stomachs, eager to return for another...
Read moreWe were excited to try this place but were dissapointed with the overall experience. The vibe of the restaurant is great; great music, decor, etc.. the restaurant was full so they separated the tables to make them available for couples, which was great as the wait got shorter. The downside was that, it was congested as on my wife's side, didn't have enough room to move the chair as it would touch the next person's chair on a different table. Congested seating was not an issue for us however. The drinks were tasty; tamarind marghareita and mango bulldog. They could have used a bit more alcohol as we ordered large sizes and couldn't taste much alcohol. We ordered the street corn which was great and really tasty. We also ordered the taco Fiesta which had 6 tacos and which really left us with a bad taste. As the picture shows there are only 4 unique tacos; we got 2 of the same beef ones and 2 of the same chicken ones and missed beef chorizo and another beef one that we were supposed to get. We weren't notified of this change and upon asking, we were told that they ran out of those 2 flavors. This didn't sit well as it clearly says on the menu that there are no substitutions allowed and as a customer, we felt we should have been asked for our preference. Wife wanted to get chorizo and the beef replacement was dry and lacking flavor (we asked for hot salsa and sour cream to make it edible). There was no compensation made either. Worst of all, we weren't given water until the very end when we asked for it at around the time of payment. Tough to convince the wife to give this restaurant a...
