A strong 3.5 ... probably best casual option in Streetsville. Thoughtful owners give this a heads above your average place.
This quaint fast casual restaurant is new to Streetsville and it's a welcomed addition. It's a super clean and bright spot with cute Aegean focused decoration. Lots of seating available here and a few tables outside as well.
It's clear this is a family run place and the owners run the restaurant. A lovely lady took our order at the counter and you can immediately two people in the back are constantly making the food fresh. I emphasize the word FRESH... nothing here is premade (except the salad items are pre cut but nothing looks old or wilted). We ordered an appetizer of calamari and a vegetarian plate for lunch. We had a bit from across the street already so we're just getting some good hot food.
We sat down and noticed how clean all the tables were... much care goes into this place so kudos to them. Our order did take a bit longer for a counter place but to be fair, when you ate your first bite, you can see why. Nothing tasted pre-cooked.
Calamari was star of the meal.... hot from the fryer, well seasoned, lightly battered, and well cooked. This was quite good. It's even better if you match it with their in house made hot sauce. It has a good kick and nice flavour. 4/5
Vegetarian platter was enormous amount of food and well cooked. Boiled potatoes were soft and generous portion. It was boiled with lemon so it had an interesting flavour. I felt like we were given 2 of them! The salad was not overdressed but mostly consisting of iceberg lettuce with some tomato slices and a few black olives. A large full 1 cup of rice was also given. And we got several freshly fried falafels. Aside from the falafels which were hot from the fryer, well cooked, and seasoned... the rest of the vegetarian platter was filler. There was a lot of it and maybe people do enjoy that but I would rather have smaller amounts of more interesting vegetarian options instead of boiled potatoes, a cup of white rice, and iceberg lettuce. 3/5 for the platter overall
This is a good option if you're in Streetsville... I wish the owners much...
Read moreAs someone who appreciates authentic Greek cuisine, I had high hopes for Stavro’s Greek Restaurant, but unfortunately, it missed the mark on multiple fronts. Starting with the pork souvlaki dinner, the meat was tough, dry, and cut into small chunks—each bite left me regretting that I trusted Stavro’s with my meal. Real souvlaki should be tender, juicy, and flavorful, but this dish fell far short.
The sides didn’t fare much better. I chose fries and grilled vegetables. The fries were the batter-coated type you’d find at Costco, and they were clearly over-fried—oily and gooey, as if they’d been cooked twice. The vegetables, while fresh, were bland and completely lacked seasoning, so I ended up adding a dash of soy sauce just to give them some taste. It was a good thing we were eating at home because the takeout bag had no napkins or cutlery, which was disappointing.
The Greek salad that came with the meal was another letdown. It was almost entirely lettuce, with just two olives and two cherry tomatoes, topped with grated Canadian feta—not the creamy, flavorful Greek feta I was expecting. While I did finish the salad, it was far from what an authentic Greek salad should be.
I ended up throwing out the fries, half the pork, and picked at the chicken souvlaki from the other dinner we ordered. The chicken was fresher but still dry and overcooked, which is, sadly, all too common with chicken. The Greek potatoes were probably the highlight of the meal, but the rice was uninspired and lacked the distinct flavor of real Greek-style rice.
Overall, I love true Greek food, but this experience was a 4/10. With Streetsville offering so many great options these days, Stavro’s is not a place I’ll be...
Read moreI've been wanting to try this place for a while. Every time I walk by it when I'm in streetsville for an ice cream it always smells great and I always say "one day I'm going to try it". Being Father's Day I decided it was a great day to try it, unfortunately I didn't know they close at 9:00 p.m. I arrived after 9:00 p.m. and they were closed, the gentleman serving named Ash could have easily said sorry we're closed, instead he was warm and welcoming. I had my two young kids with me who had never tried Greek food, I ordered my food and because they had never tried they decided to get something from somewhere else. he offered them samples to try it out and they were delighted to The taste and my son ended up deciding to order as well. The chicken gyro we had was fantastic, and reading through the menu excited us to try a lot more things, we will be back! Kudos to Ash for the exemplary customer service reinforcing what I'm teaching my kids about going to support small businesses over corporate stores who don't care if you come in or not nor care for quality ingredients. Thanks for fantastic food that's reasonable prices, till...
