I came to this place on July 14 and was completely disrespected by a female server at this location. I have always loved this location since the majority of servers are kind and the food here has always been amazing compared to the other locations. Now on this day, I had come to this restaurant with a friend and we come here often possibly a few times a month. We called in advance and had asked when the kitchen would be closed and we were told that it would be closer to midnight. When we arrived at 11:00 pm the individual that served us who I believe was Jiya, she’s the server in the bar side during the evening, came to us and informed us that the kitchen was closing and it was last call. We were a bit confused but gave our order at once since it was understandable. We ordered our usual and asked for a side of ranch. All of our food came together which was odd since usually with the other servers apps come first but this was not new to us since with this server usually all of our food always comes together and it was near closing time. Now my friend and I switch who pays and I’m someone who tips based off of service. Our service by the other servers is always amazing. They are kind to us and check up on us. With this specific server, she is always quick to leave, does not engage, we had ordered a ranch and got it 10 minutes after our pizza came and we were trying to get her attention but were unable to succeed. Now this whole thing wasn’t a big deal since we get that she may have been busy and sometimes it’s a rough day. Now the issue came when I was paying and she was quite literally looking over my shoulder. I didn’t tip since for me I only tip when service is good or great and that is usually majority of the time. She called me out and in front of everyone and went I notice that you don’t tip me as often. I was taken aback by this response especially in front of my friend and others in the restaurant. I informed her that we do often tip and I tip based off of service. She informed me that my friend always tips but I don’t tip her as often and tip the others. Now, I was extremely embarrassing and uncomfortable since she had been looking over my shoulder and now was really close to my face and because she was getting louder and her attitude was extremely rude as well. I wasn’t aware tipping was necessary and the other two male servers I usually have are amazing and always get tipped. She basically went so my service is bad and walked away angrily. Since then my friend and I have not come back to this location because despite the other staff being great I don’t ever want to be embarrassed in front of my friends and the public. Not everyone can afford to pay a tip everytime they come out and this...
Read moreI want to share the terribly bad experience I faced while trying do a reservation for 7-8 people to dine in on this past weekend. I called this store at 50 Courtney Park Dr and spoke to a guy and he atfirst enquired about the number of people and then asked me if I am ok with 18% gratuity on my bill if there are 8 people or more. Remember this is in addition to the already unreasonable pricing at the store where just a large pizza with tax and this so called “gratuity” will cost you $50. I felt this really demanding and definitely unwelcoming. I expressed my dissatisfaction on this discussion and the guy said this is a mandatory charge. I asked him if it is like that then why it is not mentioned on their website. He responded as this is a charge fixed by the store owner and won't be the same everywhere. He asked me to call him back if I want to do the reservation based on that and while I was still talking to him he hung up the call.
I called again (since wasn’t sure he indeed hung up the call) and this time my call got answered by a lady who again started to talk about the 18% gratuity from the very beginning. Looks like the other guy who hung up the phone on me overheard our conversation and may have interrupted the lady. Guess what, the phone once again got hung up. What a terrible service!!
These folks were acting like some agents or middle men trying grab some money to feed their people in kitchen, bar and servers. They sounded they are on a mission to accomplish this goal at the cost of good customer service. So technically we like customers are their real employer since we pay for their wages.
As per my understanding gratuity is something given voluntarily beyond any obligation for some good service. So here in this case we are obligated to pay and is a mandatory payment item. So is this still considered gratuity or is it cash grab? May be for them gratuity stands for 'unashamed stealing of others money publicly'.
Interestingly I was able to do the reservation at a different location of Boston Pizza soon after this, with no discussion about gratuity and didn't see it on my bill when we actually did dining there. What a big difference and a relief!!
So I want to let everybody know that there are other locations of Boston Pizza who are operated by non-greedy people if you are really concerned with this cash grab and wondering why a custom like this exists after all which is not much seen in any other service industry.
Sorry I put 1 star here since it was required to put something but I couldn't find the one they deserve...
Read moreCame here with my boyfriend and the server did not look like he was happy to be working there. We ordered their steak and jambalaya pasta. I've ordered these items before at other Boston pizza locations and in comparison this Boston pizza lacks in the food department. I asked for my steak medium it was well done. I actually prefer it med rare but I had a feeling they wouldn't nail it so I went with medium. They didn't even give a good cut of the striploin. I felt as if the striploin came from a 24 hour diner (where they flatten it). I ordered fries and half of it was not cooked. I ordered gravy and it was clumpy. I work in the food and beverage industry and it looked like they took the gravy out of the fridge and microwaved it. Instead of putting it on the stove top to a low boil and stirring it before it was served. The pasta looked like they put the noodles added the sauce with veggies and meat on top without mixing it all together like they usually do at other Boston pizza locations. And they went heavy on garnishing the pasta with scallions. I asked our waiter what the soup of the day was and he assumed it was broccoli and cheddar. How do you start dinner service without knowing your specials for the evening? I'm not blaming the server. I believe it's management. Management should have a meeting with their staff prior to dinner service to address what the specials are and any other issues. Any one can serve but customer service needs improvement. Quality check is needed before the food arrives at the table. I would never serve what they gave me at any of my restaurants. We went on Valentines day so the only good thing that came from it was that I got a rose. That's all.
Tip: Come to the Boston pizza locations in Toronto to improve quality in food and service.
Will I come back? No, because they don't even have a bar area even if I was to opt out of the...
