I've been shopping at Brandt since the mid-1990s. It has always been worth the drive out to their factory outlet. First of all, there's the scent of the food at the deli counter that hits you when you just walk in. Then, there's the large product selectionâeverything from high-quality European jams, to canned goods, to coffees, to cheeses, and some great pretzel buns. And of course, there are Brandt's own regular products: excellent corned beef, Montreal smoked meat, and a lot of other deli meats.
Generally, the available product selection has been reliable over the long term, which is great when you have favourites and keep going back for more. There's just one exception: the store used to be one of the rare places you could buy pheasant legs. Apparently, the supplier went out of business a few years ago. It'd be good if store management would look for another supplier.
The store manager is fantastic: he's efficient, polite, and friendly to speak with should you need assistance. You can often find him right there behind the meat counter, taking customers' ordersâalways in a friendly manner. He's a gentleman and an asset to the store. There was also a kind and talkative older blond German lady working at the fresh meat counter for many years, but she may have retired already.
Some reviewers here have written that the cashiers are rudeâbut I think they're just impersonal, as I've never had a nasty experience with anyone. They just seem seriously focused on getting the job done and don't care to chat with customers. Over the years, I've noted that this store has a very stable workforce: the same people have worked there for yearsâsomething unusual in today's economy, and so it's nice to see.
I seldom buy hot food at the deli counter, but I'm happy that it's there as it's nice to have as a...
Read moreI started coming to Brandtâs as a little girl several decades ago. I loved following my father through the store as he picked up all his favouritesâŚfrom smoked ends to smoked fish, fresh bread rolls, strudel, German butter cheese, herring salat, candy, etc. However, the best part was always the meat/deli counter! That is where I developed my love of lachsschinken, which still exists to this day! My father always gave me a chance to order and he often let me choose a luncheon meat, which I could only describe by the colour of the wrapper! I have so many great memories of the store, especially at Christmas time, with the stollen, the marzipan and the Santa Claus chocolate in tin foil. Even though my father passed away in 2021, I still feel his presence when I go there and it makes me smile. Brandtâs is a family owned business and we are family generational customers - my father, then me and also, now my daughter. I love the store and the fact that they offer fresh, quality products at reasonable prices. A special shout out to the tall gentleman in the white coat - I think he might be the Manager. He is always so pleasant and helpful. We will continue to patronize Brandtâs for years to come. Father would not have it any other way! Thank you to the Brandt family for bringing a taste of...
Read moreFriday April 26 -- I had a really poor customer service experience at the hot food counter. I drove a long way to visit today, i was going to buy 4 meals to go. I usually ask if they can seperate the meals into seperate containers for me since i drive a long way (the sides usually make the schnitzel all soggy). In the past, they do this for me. Today the lady (with blond hair) there insisted the meal has to go all together into the same container. I offered to pay extra for the additional containers. She said $3.50 for each additional container, for each side. That would have been an extra $28 for 4 meals. I had to walk out of the store without purchasing anything today.
I normally enjoy coming here once a week and enjoy shopping in the store.
UPDATE May 22 2024 as per response below, i sent 2 emails (may 6 and may 15), i have received no reply to either email... seems they don't care to address my...
