Fancy decor but come as you are - everyone else does, and there's nothing wrong with that!
Let's start with my only criticism so we can end on a high note. The one gripe I have is that the Naan is not Naan, and that either needs to be corrected or addressed with serving staff.
You are offered a complimentary bread basket to start things off, and immediately upon seeing it, you'll know it's a regular sesame dinner roll of sorts sliced into coins. It is not Naan and it was not prepared in a tandoor, on-site or off-site. When ordering Naan off the menu, the picture you see looks exactly like the bread basket you received at the start. The picture is NOT a mistake - you will receive another bread basket despite the "Naan" in other items on the menu (stir-fried lamb with Naan) being described as "tandoor baked Naan."
I asked for clarification from the waiter when another bread basket showed up, and he assured me, "This is the Naan." When I asked what type of Naan comes in the stir-fried lamb with Naan, he said it's the same but prepared a little differently because it's stir fried. When I asked if they make any Naan that's a flatbread made in a tandoor, he said it's this bread or a tortilla. I was very confused and decided I didn't want a second bread basket and sent it back.
Been twice now and both times the food has been fantastic. Beef short ribs and noodles and braised oxtail and noodles are the bomb dot com. Lamb dumplings are also a great bet, but the dipping isn't as conventional as you might think. It's delicious, it's vinegary, but it isn't for every palate.
In the end, please check this place out. The portions are great, and so is the food and...
Read moreSo I was super excited to try Orda. The restaurant prior to Orda was called Silk Road with same type of food. I was so sad when Silk Road closed down, their food was amazing. Then I found a post on IG about Orda and was super excited to try especially since I was missing the previous restaurant so much!
They have a location in Oakville and one in Mississauga. The Mississauga is a bigger location and we were in the area so decided to visit Orda.
Ambiance wise it was beautiful inside. They did an amazing job on the renovations. The restaurant was a lot smaller than what it was before, I think they expanded the kitchen. I gave them 2 stars for the decor and the service. Excellent service, but that’s where it ends.
For food we ordered 2 bowls of lamb noodle soup between 3 of us. The portion was very generous but the price also double what Silk Road was charging for pretty much everything on the menu. I don’t mind paying for good food however it was not that great. The broth had no taste. The noodles were mushy and not chewy at all. My daughter pointed out it tasted like the noodles were old and not fresh. We got 2 orders of lamb skewers for $20 for 3 skewers!! It was so dry and not flavourful at all, so disappointed. We got the lamb leg pilaf, The lamb leg was dried and tasteless no flavour, I think they just steamed the leg. The rice was so dry to the point where I felt like it was overcooked leftover rice, also no flavour.
All in all the food was so underwhelming and I’m super disappointed. We paid $150 total for the 3 of us and I was not happy at all. Will not be coming back...
Read moreWent to dinner as a family of 3. First impressions was the place was fancy, great ambience and seating, well lit. Not a huge fan of online vs physical menus, but every dish on the online menu had a picture which was very helpful. We ordered mantu, beef noodle soup, and the $90 mixed bbq plate. My beef noodle soup came out first. They brought out smaller bowls so I could share some with my family which was really thoughtful! Soup and the chilli oil and pickled veg it came with were delicious. A man who I assume was the owner was going around the tables making sure all the customers were doing good and he explained to us that the soup dumplings were best eaten right away when they came to our table and we appreciated the heads up. Soup dumplings (mantu) were really delicious. The $90 mixed bbq meat platter was tasty, but not worth the price. $90 should feed 3-4 adults, and the meat was good for more like 3 people and the rice/fries for only 2. It would be nice if it came with some salad or pickles but it did not. Service could be a little better. We asked for napkins and had to wait 5 minutes. Also, one of the servers was literally running around and while the hard work is appreciated, it's not really appropriate for a fine dining ambiance. We will probably come again to try...
