My family and I (4 of us) dine at La Castille teak house last night. This was my 4th time dining there. The bill was $450 something and I left a 20% gratuity. The three dessert items we irdered was on the house, served by the good, pleasant and efficient waiter.
SERVICE: There were three service waiters. A pleasant younger gentleman who served the beverages, a waitress who served appetizers and maincourse accompaniments and a very rude, grumpy senior waitor who took the food orders. The grumpy senior waiter was extremely rude, did not have a smile on his face, when asked to clarify menu options, he rudely asked me to refer to the menu. Yet the menu did not have the answers to my questions. I asked again about the prime rib, the grumpy asked rufely to "read the menu"!!!!!! The waitress was yanking the menus away so fast that it hit one of of my family members. She was not at all courteous to even apologize. I never expected THAT kind of service from a place as La castille, having driven all the way from Peterborough !!!!
Having been a consultant chéf for three Michélín star restaurants in Europe, I condone and condemn this kind of low level of service in any restaurant!! Disgusted even more, as now I am beginning to assume perhaps this was racist treatment as we being Asian in this restaurant!
FOOD: Complimentary garlic butter baguette was tasty and flavourful. Good crust and well seasoned. Escargot was okay, but nothing much compared to what they served before. Jumbo prawn cocktail was good, but it was just boiled prawns with cocktail/marinara sauce and lemon. The Fillet Mignon and NY Striploin steaks were decent and flavourful, according to my family members with me who dined there. The Chicken Neptune with crab meat and hollandaise sauce on Asparagus was good, according to my wife. As for my Bone in Rib steak was ordered to be medium. The surface was burnt and loads of carbon was on it. Only the center portion if the steak had pinkish redness, however, as a chéf, I found the steak was overcooked to be medium standard. The rude waitor hardly added any black pepper from the long pepper mill, as if he was adding solid gold dust from his personal wealth. When asked to add more, the nice waitor came and did that. The baked potato was bland, even after adding chives, butter, bacon bits and sour cream. Honestly, I have had better steak at the Keg and their service has always been great.
AMBIENCE ABSOLUTEL eclectic, embellishes, dimly lit, wooden interior was an amazing experience. However, bright blue-white light bulbs in chandelliers and exterior lighting were quite visible and were eyesores in a castle like romantic, warm interior atmosphere.
Note for La castille management: Restaurant ls are graded for (1) Food quality and the flavours, aromas, creativities, presentations, tastes, complex textures and the overall palate experience. (2) Service quality - courteousness, pleasant presentation, friendly, respectful and conducive conversations, explanation of the menu (3) Ambience - interior, with conducive, warm and welcoming - the only plus point at this restaurant for me. These three factors adetermine if any customer will return to dine again. If any one of them scores less, that is a lost client.
La Castille has certainly lost my confidence on ever returning returning to dine there again! My wallet will explore other places where my discerning expectations...

Hands down one of the worse experiences I’ve ever had in life. I initially wanted a reso for Monday February 17th but was told they wouldn’t be opened because it was family day. Decided to make a reso for Friday February 21st instead (just because I really had my heart set on going here) I was excited to go just based on the reviews and tik toks I’ve seen. I read that Friday and Saturday nights they have live music (piano) so wanted to see the interior and enjoy my evening. From the moment the older man I assume is a host or manages the host (not too sure of his relevance or title because he didn’t introduce his self) told the woman to sit us at table 40, I felt something was off even before seeing what and where ‘table 40’ was. She walked us down the stairs and brought us behind a wall/ waiters closet where they bring all the dirty dishes. I don’t understand why they would think it’s okay to have a table in that small dark space. I get that this place has been opened since the 70’s but I didn’t expect to be treated like we’re still in that era (I’m a black masc presenting woman accompanied by a black feminine woman). I sometimes forget just because we’re in 2025 doesn’t mean everyone’s mindset is there. We contemplated leaving but our reso was at 7:30 and it being a Friday night it would have been difficult to find somewhere to just walk in without having to wait for a table, plus the waiter that took our drink order was nice so we ended up staying. As for their food.. I work in a steak house and been to plenty, their food was average at most, definitely not worth the price. Bread was stale and the plate with the olives, pickles and cottage cheese was dirty, which by the way the man that brought out the bread just threw it on the table and left, no words or anything. The oysters were smaller than I’m use to and a lot less “meat”. I asked for a medium rare 12 oz New York and got it rare, but with us being sat in a dark corner it could have been blue rare. I didn’t ask for a cook up I just ate my fries and veggies and brought the steak home and gave it to my dog. I never give my dog any proteins with seasoning but it was so bland I figured it would have been okay. Then we got to dessert… i don’t know what gave me the impression this place made everything from scratch but that isn’t the case here. Anything that’s not made in house but just bought from a “local bakery” doesn’t need to be over priced. Carrot cake was too mushy for our likening so he ended up taking it off the bill.
The interior I seen while walking to “table 40” is beautiful but everything else was extremely disappointing to say the lease. There is no dress code, seen people in jeans, hoodies, sneakers, uggs, so don’t worry about dressing up. My expectations were just too high for “La Castile” it’s definitely not “the Park steakhouse” not sure if La Castile has employees that’s racist, homophobic or both, but this is the first and last time I stay in an establishment and get treated less than.
Thanks for the horrible experience, it was a...
Read moreI visited this restaurant on February 21, 2025, with a group of six moms for a much-needed night out. The ambiance was beautiful, with an old castle-like setting and live music that created a great atmosphere. The food was good—I personally enjoyed it, though some friends found the meat a bit too rare.
We were having so much fun with each other, laughing, talking, and ignoring the waitress’s attitude. Despite the service issues, we were still enjoying our time—until the bill came, and it completely ruined everything.
The service was absolutely terrible and really took away from the experience. Our waitress was rude from the start, especially when we mispronounced a drink name. She took our order with an attitude, and at one point, she tried to clear our plates while we were still eating. Several mix-ups happened with our food, but thankfully, another staff member (an older gentleman) helped correct them.
The biggest issue came at the end when we asked for separate bills. Another server told us that only our waitress could handle that, but when she returned, she threw the bill on the table and walked away. To our shock, everything was on one bill. When we asked her to split it, she rudely said, "Our system doesn’t work like that. You have to pay as one group."
We could have just paid and separated the amount between us, but we were pissed at her attitude and decided we needed separate bills. We asked for a manager, and after waiting another 15 minutes, one of my friends went looking and found our waitress complaining about us to the manager. When the manager finally arrived, she insisted separate bills weren’t possible because we "should have asked at the beginning"—even though we had already mentioned it to another staff member. She also revealed that she was one of the owners and offered us a free drink to make up for it, but by that point, we just wanted to leave.
After much back and forth, they finally agreed to separate the bill, which came to almost $800 in total. We decided to leave zero tip, which we felt bad about since tips are shared, but the waitress truly didn’t deserve one. Sadly, after reading other reviews, I regret not checking them beforehand. This place may look nice on the surface, but once you experience the poor service, it’s like finding a perfectly clean snowbank only to have it spoiled by a stain you can’t ignore.
We will never return, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who expects even basic customer service. However, one of our friends has decided to give it another try at...
