Lazeez at Thomas and Tenth Line is a contentious debate in my shawarma circles. I have colleagues—experts in the fine cuisine of shawarma—that have choice words to say about the local chain. Meanwhile, other esteemed peers in the shawarma game make this establishment their first stop on the way home from the airport after a long time away from home.
Indeed, Lazeez is somewhat of an enigma, and for me, it is about being tactful and strategic in your approach i.e you need to know what to order: A chicken shawarma plate, spicy, with double chicken, lentil rice, fries, and a Greek salad.
You don’t go to Lazeez for the wraps. You go for the platters. Their sticks are legit, but that’s another conversation—my love here is for the plate. Their lentil rice is to die for—caramelized onions, proper seasoned. Some of the best I’ve had alongside my numerous plates across the GTA. Their hot sauce is actually spicy af. Extra hot will have you dying the next day. Fries are always fresh and crispy. Bomb tahini and garlic sauce.
Our collective gripe is with the chicken coming out of a hot table container, rather than being shaved in front of my eyes, chopped up, and served. This is why timing and showing up during peak hours is important. Since it is a chain, with a lot of different employees, they will sometimes chince on the chicken. This is why I don’t mess around and order extra chicken every time. It ensures they will hook it up every time. Yes, this brings the total to $18.50 for a plate, but it is easily two meals worth of food—the portion is STACKED.
So, keep your eye on sight, don’t mess with a good thing, be nice to the folks, and they will hook it up. Oh, and did I mention they are open till some absurd hour? This is the best late night food spot in the...
Read moreI’ve been going to this location for years and always order it through Ubereats as well. I believe the management has changed recently, and although very friendly, not sure if the quality of the food is the same. This time I went in because I was close by and assumed the food will be fresher that way. I just got fries with garlic sauce. Unfortunately, even something as simple as fries were not made fresh. They had a bowl of fries sitting there from earlier. The associate touched them and realized they’re not fresh, and then went ahead and refried the same old fries instead of making me fresh ones. I didn’t say anything because I thought maybe it their common practice and honestly I didn’t know what to say. The fries were obviously darker than usual and more oily, and not tasting fresh as they weren’t. The also put very little garlic sauce, and being a regular previously, I know they put way more. Anyway, I let it go as I assumed it was just a bad experience. Unfortunately, I did end up throwing up due to the fries and I’ve had this sort of thing multiple and it’s never happened before. I hope the management can take this into consideration and not refry their fries, instead make fresh ones for the customer. If a restaurant can’t do something simple like fries properly, I’m not sure what their practices are with...
Read moreGave me raw pink chicken! I got sick!..My family came with me and, I prefer white meat over dark so I ordered the chicken skewer on the rocks dish... They were quite busy, and there was a line and they said it would take longer to cook so we said we could wait. Shawarma on the rocks is amazing here and what my family always orders with beef or shawarma meat. There's usually a little wait and a forever a line que. The portions are massive and this place is popular.. I can see why you get great tasting dishes and enough to feed two per order at a cheap price... Anyways, we sat in our car and started eating, it was night time and my meat felt really chewy, I said something is wrong.. My dad thought I was exaggerating so I turned the car's lighting on and, to my horror the meat was completely pink and raw!! How could you miss this?! And with chicken??! I could have gotten the worst food poisoning or worse a child/elderly could have... I was very sick after and to make matters worst, when we went back inside the owner sort of yells at the chef then.. Gives us shawarma on the rocks as a swap out and charges us the difference to, no refund, and more money.. What in the world?? The staff needs to be trained on proper hygiene, food preparation, and cross contamination. You can see them using raw meat tongs with cooked...
