I’ve been enjoying chicken shawarmas for more than 35 years, and I can honestly say this was the worst experience I’ve ever had. I can’t think of one bad shawarma I’ve had in 35 years up until this visit to this Lazeez on Argentia in Mississauga. The Lazeez on Creditview is fantastic and the other locations I’ve tried have been great. But this was a disaster from the start. I probably should have sensed that something was amiss when the man who took my order asked me to repeat it 4 times. I have a feeling that English wasn’t his first language because he wasn’t very responsive and spoke in one to 3 word sentences, and he didn’t seem to understand what I was saying. Part of me felt bad for him because it’s hard to do a customer service job when you don’t speak the language fluently. Even if you’re not trying to be rude, it can be perceived that way. My order was pretty basic. It was 1 regular chicken shawarma with hot sauce(3 out of 4 on their heat scale), 2 large mild chicken shawarma’s (1 out of 4 on their heat scale), and 1 large shawarma with hot sauce(again 3 out of 4 on the heat scale). Not a complicated order - we asked for all the toppings on all 4 shawarmas. He seemed to finally understand the order after the 3rd attempt, but then he asked me again while he was making it. Later, he correctly labelled the wraps either HOT or MILD, so I felt like they were probably OK. On the drive home, I noticed that the shawarma’s had a weird smell - almost like soap. It persisted when I got home and tried to figure out what it was. My best guess was that the bread smelled funny. Not like any shawarma that I’ve ever smelled. We also noticed that one hot shawarma was completely red inside, indicating that way too much hot sauce was used. There were also big chunks of banana peppers in the wrap. Far too many. On the other hand, there was virtually no garlic sauce. Every shawarma lover knows that the garlic sauce is what makes or breaks the wrap(and of course the chicken is important too). My wife (who loves spicy food) could not finish it. She dumped it. My kids both shared a ‘mild’ shawarma. And I had a full mild shawarma. They were all extremely spicy with tons of hot peppers and hot sauce. It was so spicy that my kids couldn’t eat it. And it was too hot for me too. We all dumped our wraps. In the past I’ve had shawarmas with not enough meat, or not enough toppings, or too much of one ingredient or not warm enough. But in all my years I have never dumped a shawarma. And today we’ve dumped 3 out of 4 so far. My mother in law is coming over later tonight and she is supposed to eat the last ‘hot’ shawarma. I think we will make it 4 out of 4 dumped shawarma’s tonight. My recommendation for this restaurant: 1) train staff on how to prepare their shawarma’s in a consistent way. The Creditview Lazeez produces shawarmas that are mild when they say they are mild or hot when they say they are hot. This Argentia location seems to prepare hot versions of shawarmas regardless of what type of shawarma is ordered. 2) improve the customer service. Some training on how to interact with customers could go a long way. We won’t ever go back to this location again,...
Read moreMy husband and I have ordered food here a few times and the food has been rather consistent. HOWEVER, the food we received yesterday was extremely below par. I ordered the mixed grill platter for $19.15 + tax, and was very disappointed.
LONG WAIT when promised no wait.
DOORDASH said our food wouldn’t be ready until 2pm (it was 1:15pm), so my husband called and asked if it would take that long to cook. The person on the phone told my husband that he could come now and that it would be served quickly and would be fresh. My husband got there at 1:20pm, waited for over 30min even though they told us that it would be ready in the next 5, and ended up bringing the food home at 2pm anyway. He wasted 30+ minutes when he was told that it would be ready immediately.
Beef kofta from the mixed grill platter was super hard and dry. I had it once a couple of years ago from this location and it was amazing, but this time was so dry I had to use ketchup to make it palatable.
Greek salad - MISSING the salad dressing! Plus the feta cheese was in GIANT chunks, so I had to break it down myself. I don’t even have salad dressing in my refrigerator, so the plain salad is still uneaten...
We won’t be coming here again for quite some time. Waste of money, and for $22, the mixed grill platter is NOT RECOMMENDED. I’m upset that hard earned...
Read moreI visited this Lazeez today (18th October at around 2pm) and was honestly shocked by how rude and disrespectful one of the workers was. A middle-aged arab looking woman was at the counter when I politely asked if they had a phone charger I could use for a few minutes, as my phone had died and I needed to call an Uber after studying at the nearby library.
Instead of even acknowledging me or asking what kind of charger I needed, she looked at me, rolled her eyes, and used her hand to motion for me to leave. She didn’t say a single word. It was dismissive, humiliating, and completely uncalled for. What made the situation worse was that a couple sitting nearby saw the entire thing. They were kind enough to go to their car, find a charger, and help me charge my phone right there in Lazeez. I wasn’t hungry at the time but still bought a bottle of water out of respect for the business. Being kind doesn’t cost anything. Even if she couldn’t help, she could have said “sorry, we don’t have one” with basic courtesy. As someone who regularly buys shawarma from Lazeez and has supported this business for a long time, this experience was deeply disappointing. Employees represent the brand, and simple respect and kindness go a long way in how customers see a place words. No customer deserves to be treated like that - she treated me like...
