If you’re someone who’s always on the hunt for that perfect bite of nostalgia, this is for you. My recent visit (on a crisp September evening in 2025) reaffirmed why this spot earns its stellar reputation especially when it comes to their legendary Amritsari Kulcha.

Let’s dive right into the star of the show: the Amritsari Kulcha. This isn’t just any stuffed flatbread; it’s a crispy, golden masterpiece, puffed to perfection in the tandoor and generously filled with spiced potatoes that burst with flavor on every tear. Served alongside their signature Channa Masala a slow-simmered chickpea curry that’s rich, tangy, and infused with over 20 hours of fresh herb and spice magic it transports you straight to the bustling lanes of Amritsar. The kulcha’s exterior cracks satisfyingly under your fork, revealing a soft, steaming interior that’s neither greasy nor overwhelming, striking that ideal balance of indulgence and authenticity. Priced around $12-15 for the plate, it’s hearty enough for a solo lunch but shares beautifully for two, and the accompanying pickle and onion raita add just the right zing. In a city flooded with Indian eateries, Mughal Mahal’s version stands out as the best in the GTA crispy, flavorful, and unapologetically true to its roots. What elevated the entire experience from great to unforgettable, however, was the impeccable service from Upneet. From the moment we were seated, Upneet’s warm smile and attentive demeanor made us feel like family rather than patrons. He patiently walked us through the menu’s highlights (insisting we pair the kulcha with their house chai for that extra Punjabi touch), anticipated our needs without hovering, and even shared a quick story about how the restaurant sources its spices for that homemade vibe. When a minor mix-up with our order arose, Upneet handled it with effortless grace, comping a side of lassi that was creamy, cardamom-kissed perfection. Servers like her are the heartbeat of Mughal Mahal friendly, efficient, and genuinely passionate about the food, turning a meal into a memory.

The ambiance here is cozy yet lively, with warm lighting, colorful murals evoking Mughal opulence, and a steady hum of satisfied diners. Portions are generous, the space is spotlessly clean (a big plus for family outings), and with options for dine-in, takeout, or even catering, it’s versatile for any occasion. Sure, peak hours can mean a wait book ahead if you can but it’s worth every minute.

In a nutshell, Mughal Mahal isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a slice of India that hits all the right notes. If you’re craving Amritsari Kulcha that lives up to the hype, rush over and ask for Upneet she’ll make sure your visit is as delicious as the dish itself. Five stars, no hesitation. Highly...

We visited today group of 3 around 7:30 PM. We had already signed up on the waitlist and even called ahead hoping to place our usual order — something we've done before. But this time, we were told that phone orders weren’t allowed for dine-in, and that food would be served within 10 minutes of seating. Unfortunately, that promise wasn’t kept.

We were seated at 7:32 PM, and our order didn’t arrive until 7:55 PM. That’s a 20-minute wait — completely opposite of what was said.

To make matters worse, items like, dahi, and chana and potatoes if you need refill which were previously included, were now being charged extra (e.g., $1.00 for chutney) — and this wasn’t communicated in advance. These small add-ons felt like surprise charges, which is frustrating. If something has changed, customers should be informed or asked if they want to add these extras.

Service was also very poor. We had to flag down staff just to place an order or get a Pepsi, which took 10 minutes. There were no servers visibly attending to the floor, and it really felt like we were left on our own most of the time.

To top it off, someone came up to our table without a uniform, asking if everything was okay. We couldn’t even tell if he was a customer or a staff member. If he was a manager, he should be dressed accordingly — this was unprofessional and made us uncomfortable.

Honestly, after this visit, Mughal Mahal is on our no go place. We won’t be returning, and we definitely won’t be recommending it to anyone.

It’s especially disappointing because have been a regular customer from the past 4 years, our last visit in October was still better, when service and food were both solid. We’re not sure if the ownership or management has changed, but clearly, things have gone downhill since.

Not worth the time or...

Mughal Mahal is a delightful culinary gem that captures the essence of authentic North Indian and Mughlai cuisine. From the moment you step inside, the warm ambience, traditional décor, and subtle aroma of rich spices transport you straight to the royal kitchens of the Mughal era. The restaurant strikes a perfect balance between elegance and comfort, making it suitable for both family dinners and special occasions.

The menu at Mughal Mahal offers an impressive range of dishes from classic kebabs and biryanis to creamy curries and freshly baked breads. The Butter Chicken is a standout, perfectly cooked in a rich, velvety tomato gravy that’s both flavorful and comforting. The Mutton Rogan Josh and Paneer Tikka Masala are equally satisfying, with just the right blend of spices and tenderness. For starters, the Seekh Kebabs are juicy and well-seasoned, while the Samosas have a perfectly crisp exterior and flavorful filling.

Service is another strong point at Mughal Mahal. The staff are attentive, polite, and well-informed about the menu, often suggesting the best pairings for your meal. The food arrives promptly and is always served hot and fresh. Portion sizes are generous, offering excellent value for money.

The restaurant also offers a variety of desserts, and the Gulab Jamun and Kheer are must tries sweet endings to a rich and satisfying meal. The cleanliness, presentation, and attention to detail throughout the dining experience reflect a commitment to quality and authenticity.

Overall, Mughal Mahal stands out as one of the finest places to enjoy Mughlai cuisine. Whether you’re craving hearty curries, aromatic rice, or flavorful tandoori dishes, this restaurant delivers consistently excellent food and service. Visited this hidden gem the other day finally! Here’s what we tried: - Tandoori chicken momos - Malai paneer tikka - Spring rolls - Amritsari kulcha with channa - Kali mirch chicken curry with butter garlic naan - Gulab jamun sizzler - Shahi tukra - Masala Goli drink - Fresh Lime soda drink When I tell you this was a FEAST I mean it! We were pretty full by the time we were done apps, the malai paneer tikka was so soft and mild and the spring rolls were so crunchy and tasty, both were good vegetarian or non spicy options 🙌🏼 The momos were my fave (no surprise there) haha 😋 The amritsari kulcha was stuffed !!! You can’t see it in the pictures and I wasn’t able to capture it but that platter alone can be shared by two people 🤤 The kali mirch chicken was so flavourful and perfect with that buttery garlic naan 😍 The gulab jamun sizzler was so yummy and filling but to be honest I preferred the shahi tukra! This is only because I have mentioned it before but I find Indian desserts to be too sweet for me but the shahi tukra was surprisingly a good balance, they’re basically fried pieces of bread with sweet milk so what’s not to like haha 👀 Last but not the least we washed everything down with the masala goli drink (cola infused with spices) and fresh lime soda, perfectly refreshing and to aid in digestion of all the rich goodness 💯 Thank you to the mughal mahal staff for the warm hospitality and royal feast, we will be back to try the rest of the newly revamped menu and items 🥰 This place is well known and was packed to the brim so make sure you make reservations and check them out y’all 💃🏻

We were in the neighbourhood and decided to check out this place due to its great ratings. Near the door they have a sign posted to make advanced reservations and they are not kidding about it. It was around 12.30pm and the place was already full with at least 10 parties ahead of us. However, it only took about 20mins to get the table. We were seated in a corner table which was a bit cramped. Our server Vimalpreet recommended Amritsari kulcha with Chana and makki ki roti and saag. For our son, we went with the default order of paneer butter masala, naan and mango lassi. The kulcha was the best we have had in GTA, it was sumptuous with a spicy potato filling and a generous dollop of butter. The tamarind soaked onions added to the flavours of this dish. The Chana while good, wasn’t exceptional. The saag was very flavourful and the makki ki roti was thin and crispy. The multilayered naan paired very well with the paneer which was also very good. For drinks, we ordered the kesar badam milk which was exceptional and must try. The pink chai had a great presentation with dry fruits and rose petals but was alright. Good for the first time experience, probably won’t order again. Forgot to mention our appetizer, paneer tikka. While it was good, this wasn’t the best we have had. It was a bit hard and lacked flavour. If you are on a diet, remember that they are extremely generous with butter, so you might want to mention it while ordering. We would definitely come back to try their non vegetarian options that looked great. Overall fantastic experience.
