We went here yesterday for the buffet and honestly, this was the WORST experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. The buffet trays were always empty. Every single time we had to go and tell the staff, “Hey, this is empty, that is empty.” They’d run back, bring out a tiny bit of food, and in minutes it was gone again. Same cycle repeated the whole time. Not just me—another customer also got annoyed, but I don’t know why the rest just stayed quiet.

Food quality? Awful. The chicken curry barely had any chicken pieces, just watery gravy with no taste. Most of the dishes were bland, like someone cooked them without any care. Only 1–2 items were okay, the rest were terrible. And because nothing was ready, we had to keep waiting every 3–4 minutes for refills. What’s the point of calling it a buffet if the food isn’t even there?

Customer service was even worse. I told the guy straight up, “This is the worst food and experience I’ve ever had.” Another customer standing there agreed with me. And you know what he said? “Okay, now you can pay the bill.” 🤦‍♂️ Like seriously?? I asked him if this is how they handle customer complaints. Instead of apologizing, he just walked off into the kitchen. We had to stand there waiting just to pay. When he finally came back, I asked, “Is it our responsibility to wait like this?” His response? “I had work in the kitchen.” His tone was basically “I don’t care.”

Then he started giving excuses like two staff called in sick. Still no sorry, no regret, no discount—nothing. And worst of all, he addressed me as “Avan” (Malayalam word for “that guy”) right to my face. That’s pure rudeness and totally unprofessional. Customers don’t need to hear your staffing problems. If you can’t run the buffet properly, don’t sell it that day. Don’t make us pay full price for poor food and pathetic service.

This place was absolutely terrible. One of the worst restaurants I’ve...

Review of Ocean Palate, Indian and Kerala Cuisine, Located at 1151 Eglinton Ave E, Mississauga, ON L4W 1K6

I visited Ocean Palate at around 10:00 PM and found the parking situation to be mediocre. The restaurant was spacious enough, with plenty of seating available. We were greeted and given menus as we sat near the entrance.

The first issue arose with the wait time for our food. Although we were told it would take 15 to 20 minutes, we waited for nearly 35 minutes. Moreover, the food was disappointing. An item we ordered was also forgotten, and we were so dissatisfied that we chose not to remind the staff about it.

The restaurant started off nearly empty, but soon filled up. Despite this, the lone waitress seemed overwhelmed, managing not just the orders but also the billing. The staff didn’t wear uniforms, making the establishment feel less professional. Additionally, cleanliness was an issue; tables were not cleared quickly for incoming guests.

As for the ambiance, the lighting was agreeable, and there was background music. However, our initial seating choice placed us uncomfortably close to the washroom, leading us to switch tables.

The food itself was a letdown. We tried the Masala Dosa and Cheese Masala Dosa, both of which were underwhelming. The only redeeming item was the South Indian Vegetable Cutlet.

I cannot recommend this restaurant. It's clear the management isn't prioritizing customer experience and seems to be skimping on staffing. Staff from the kitchen even had to serve food at times. Moreover, it appeared that many customers were recent immigrants from India, and I felt that the service didn’t meet Canadian hospitality standards.

In summary, when I dine out, I expect a pleasant experience, which Ocean Palate failed to deliver due to poor management and...

By far the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. Pre-ordered 15 onam sadhyas yesterday and when we got here today our name wasn't even on the order list. After a 3 hour wait we finally got our order and got back home only to realise that the 23-item sadhya barely had 7 items!!

We drove back 25 kms to the restaurant and confronted the people at the restaurant, who at first denied there were missing items. We showed them the food that was packed for us and they began making excuses. A few customers who had already got their orders started checking their bags and they too found a lot of missing items in their bags and there was a huge commotion.

The owners not once apologized or accepted their mistake. Their reasoning for the missing items was, 'some of the items aren't prepared yet, so we're just packing whatever's left'. When one of the owner's realised we weren't backing down, he took us to the back and said that they prepared 800 sadhyas which were sold out by 10:00 am and once they ran out they just gave customers whatever's left in the kitchen.

They were unwilling to give us a refund and also raised his voice against us. He also used foul language! Again, after all this not a single word of apology! Check the other onam sadhaya reviews to see how disgruntled customers were.

They're scammers and don't know how to deal with customers. This is by far the worst example of how to run a business. I feel sorry for all the people who work under these owners. We gave back the food and they very unwillingly gave us a refund.

Edit: In response to the owner's comments: Our intention was never to embarrass you. Although, it looks like you managed to embarrass yourself by cheating customers on a...

If you're looking for authentic Kerala cuisine in Mississauga, look no further than Ocean Palate. I recently visited this restaurant and was blown away by the delicious food and charming ambiance. The menu at Ocean Palate boasts an impressive selection of Kerala cuisine, with options for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diners. I tried the traditional Kerala fish curry and it was absolutely delicious. The spices were perfectly balanced and the fish was cooked to perfection. I also loved the variety of breads and rice options available, which made for the perfect accompaniment to the flavorful dishes. The ambiance of Ocean Palate is equally impressive. The warm and cozy interiors are tastefully decorated with traditional Kerala art and decor, giving the restaurant an authentic and inviting feel. I especially loved the cozy seating and the soft lighting that created a relaxing atmosphere. But the real highlight of my visit to Ocean Palate was their Kerala bakery options. I couldn't resist trying their typical Kerala snacks and sweets, and I was not disappointed. The freshly baked banana chips and appam were crispy and flavorful, while the sweet and sticky jaggery-based desserts were a perfect end to the meal. They also have a Sea Food Sandhya (Fest) planned out which I don’t want to miss out. Overall, my experience at Ocean Palate was fantastic. The food was delicious, the ambiance was charming and the service was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a taste of authentic Kerala cuisine in Mississauga.

We wanted to see what this newest Indian offering had to provide. We got to know about this place from the commercials on CMR Thamil FM. To keep it simple, I didn't find the food to be any different from any other Indian restaurants in the city. The menu was pretty basic with some additions from Kerala cuisine. We tried a variety of items from veggie pakoras, masala dosai, coastal fish curry, veg biriyani and appam. Everything was average. You forget about the food the minute you step out of the restaurant. If Ocean Palate has to survive in this competitive industry, especially with many different and unique offerings in the city, then more work needs to be done to bring something unique and different to the table. Suggestions, simplify the menu. Stick to Kerala cuisine. You don't need to be everything and anything to pander to the whole sub continent. Focus on the cuisine from Kerala, pick the gems, provide the best quality in ingredients and flavors, be authentic to the native dish, present it well (banana leaf, clay pots etc.) and I think you will do much better. Don't try to change it hoping you can please everybody. You don't need to provide Dosa and Biriyani and Butter chicken etc. There are way too many restaurants that are doing a much better job at it. Stick to your roots and you will shine. The ambiance needs more work as well.
