I do not take posting this review lightly. In fact, I have waited several months to see if I still feel the same way about this bake shop. And to this day, I would give this place negative stars if I could because of the utter disappointment I faced regarding a Mother’s Day custom order earlier this year.
In early-mid April of 2023, I reached out to this bakery, inquiring about a custom order of cupcakes and mini cakes for my mother for Mother’s Day. In the email, I wrote in considerable detail what the flavours and fillings were going to be, as well as, an allergy notice. I explicitly indicated that someone in my family was allergic to nuts and listed the exact nuts: peanut, pistachio, cashew, and walnut. The owner replied, saying she can make this order.
Everything was going so well until pick up day. Upon pick up, I confirmed again that everything was nut free and the owner said yes. As I was walking out the door with my order, the owner called out to me, suddenly remembering, and said that almond flour was used. Luckily, my family member is not allergic to almonds so I didn’t mind as much. However, this has already created a tarnished image for me about this bakery.
Arriving home, I took out each of the mini cakes and cupcakes and noticed that some of the macaroons were green. This was alarming because green macaroons are usually made from pistachios. I immediately called the bakery and the owner said that the green macaroons are made from pistachios. I didn’t even know what to say at this point. It was extremely disgusting and disappointing to the point where I was speechless on the phone. I received no accommodations or alternatives for this horrible problem.
While I understand that things can come into contact with nuts because it is a bakery, actively putting nut ingredients is another thing, especially after I specifically indicated no nuts and the type of nuts my family member has allergies to. The fact that the owner put both almonds and pistachios shows how deeply unprofessional this place is. We are talking about someone’s life here. If the owner was unable to take my custom order, I would have been fine and would have understood. However, she decided to take on this order and put someone’s life at risk.
I will also like to mention that I placed this custom order about a month in advance because I knew Mother’s Day would be busy. And in the end, I was faced with the worst and most atrocious experience in my entire life.
Allergies are serious and can lead to death. If it weren’t for my suspicious and my instincts, I don’t know what could have happened if my family member ate the cakes and cupcakes.
The cakes and cupcakes themselves tasted like trash. For the cupcakes, I ordered maple flavour with a custard filling and for the mini cakes, they had a honey cake flavour and a honey buttercream filling. Every dessert was bland, with the consistency of stale bread.
Overall, the customer service, accommodations, and quality were downright awful. I will never...
Read moreThe service here truly deserves a 1 star. Rania’s is beautiful & very aesthetically pleasing but I will not be turning nor would I recommend this place to anyone. No beautiful aesthetic can take away from the experience.
My friend hosted her 30th party here & there was about 15 of us.
For starters one of the older ladies was incredibly rude, she throwing in rude comments throughout our whole experience. We had moved a chair to the side (note we were the only ones there) to give ourselves more room. The older lady started complaining that the chair was moved. As a server/host it is your job to make the needful changes with furniture if we are crammed, but we did complain & moved it ourselves neatly.
The tea was pretty room temperature. We had these pots that had water in it but in my opinion it should have been boiling hot as tea normally is. No water was offered nor was there milk or cream to go with our coffees or teas at our table.
When they were bringing out the high tea snacks two pastries fell on the floor. Instead on replacing and adding the two that were missing they served it as is.
Our reservation was until 2:30 but as soon as 2:00 hit they started cleaning up implying we should leave now. They advised they had another party right after. We stayed till 2:20 taking pictures with each other. I had a lady sweep over my foot ! She did not apologize or nothing. It’s unfortunate as paying customers what an inconvenience we seemed like we were. Genuinely this is truly disrespectful.
We started taking pictures outside till about 3 & noticed there was no other party in sight.
It’s very unfortunate how unprofessional this business was. The birthday girl sent an email & no true apology was made for the above. This just proved that this business does not truly care about its customers. If I could give it a 0 stars I would.
Update after receiving a response: Nothing was addressed with the issues we had. Instead they were defensive with everything I wrote about above. Why would we lie about having to ask for water & milk for our tables and everything else above. The owner clearly only cares about making money versus providing...
Read moreI booked the Adult High Tea for 2 online. Received an invoice to prepay which is a first for me, I can see asking for a deposit but the full amount? Seems like maybe they have been burned before with people not showing up for bookings. I was pleased with the overall ambience, cute dishes, gold cutlery general style of the place. A few things needed some attention, fake flowers are not aesthetically pleasing on the tables. If you know you have a reservation, put fresh flowers in a clean vase, when you set the table, just a little something extra. The door and walls need either a fresh coat of paint or a good wash. The pink velvet chairs are the cutest thing but they all needed a good shampoo. The food was AMAZING! Nothing to critique here. My favourite was the scones. The tea selection was less than stellar but they did have other choices for drinks. No cream, milk or sugar was offered. When the cute 3 tiered tray was brought to our table, no explanation of what was on it. I have been to a variety of high tea experiences and they always tell you what the sandwiches are, the flavours of scones etc. We took a bite and then conferred about which flavour it was. Not a deal breaker but missing that little bit of finesse. We had to ask for more hot water for our tea, a pet peave of mine, and staff never approached us to see if we had any questions. The bathroom was as cute as the restaurant and very clean. Both the restaurant and bathroom are accessible to people with mobility issues. We were so impressed with the quality of the deserts that we bought some to take home, they came in the cutest box! With a few little tweaks this place could easily be the best place for High Tea in...
