This is a fairly non-descript Korean Restaurant and used to be one of my favourite spots to go after a haircut in the Newin strip mall. It's run by an elderly couple who serve up comforting homestyle Korean dishes that are both affordable and quality. There's always plenty of seating in the food court area and parking isn't a problem. The most popular dish is definitely the pork bone soup, a staple of any good Korean joint, and you can tell because it's frequently sold out. You get a side of kimchi and white rice with the soup, which is packed full of pork and flavorful compared to other offerings in the area.
If I have one criticism it's that the service is unfortunately mediocre. The owners randomly take days off without any notice and will dismissively tell you they are sold out of food (despite it only being 5 PM) and most recently, there is some false advertising going on where they removed the potato from the pork bone soup. I always looked forward to it and asked the owner if he forgot to give me one (I would've been okay with that), but he just shrugged and said, "no potato". Okay...
I might come back and try some other dishes in the future, but for now it's 3/5...
Read moreMay 2022: I've been coming here for over 20 years, ever since I was a child with my parents. This restaurant is downstairs in the food court of the most ghetto mall and not exactly the type of place you'd expect to get affordable, high quality Korean food but you'll be surprised once you try them out. You can tell they truly care about the quality of food they serve even when it's super cheap. The restaurant is owned by the same older Korean couple (nicest people ever btw) from 20 years ago and tastes exactly the same as it did in the early 2000's. Consistency, and the fact they're still around is a testament to them being able to withstand the test of time and I get nostalgic every time I come here. They're not immune to inflation so prices have crept up steadily over the years but it's still way cheaper and more delicious than any of the "fancier" Korean places you can go (expect to pay ~$10...
Read moreThe cheapest gamjatang! 💕 My hubby has been there a lot since he was a kid. 😆
It's located inside the food court and only costs $12 (no tax) for a whole meal. It's hard to find this deal nowadays. 🤩
Their gamjatang portions were quite generous - three pieces of pork bone, but no potatoes. It was okay for us because they served it with rice and some complimentary kimchi and it was quite filling. I ordered the seafood soup. I loved their soup as it was so flavorful. They also served a fish. Surprisingly, there weren't many bones. Additionally, we got the grilled mackerel, which we both loved. It only cost $5. The grilling and seasoning were perfect, and it paired well with...
