Came here because it has sushi and bingsu, ended up too full to order bingsu though.
We got Sooshimi Bento and the Sushi, Sashimi & Roll Combo. The sooshimi bento tampura was thinly slice, crispy and tasty. Salmon sashimi was in thick cut, fresh and meaty. That's all I tried from the bento. I had the combo which was a lot for one person which I ended up only ate half. Again, salmon sashimi was good however the tuna sashimi probably need to unthraw a little longer? A bit blend. Overall if you look at the pictures, all the fish on the sushi is very thinly slice which I would prefer it to be thicker cut, or else it doesn't have that satisfying texture and just mainly eating rice. The rolls has less rice in portion and more fillings inside, which is the first time I seen and I think some people would love this. Most people won't eat the white carrots under the sashimi, but I went with someone that does. He was disappointed that the carrot wasn't hand sliced but rather using grater, which texture is very different (see image).
It was weird they only serve one soy sauce/wasabi plate as we both had sushi in our order. Then I heard the other table asking for 2 more those plates too, as they only received one. Not sure if is a standard thing they do?
For its price is pretty good sushi. But I would prefer thicker cuts in fish on the rice, and willing...
Read moreAnyone who gives this sushi a high rating hasn't eaten much sushi in their lives. Sushi was very typical mediocre sushi unfortunately found all over. There is only 4-5 tables in the restaurant and they seem to thrive on takeout which would be a better experience than my dine-in visit of 4 adults and 3 kids.
When we arrived there was only one other table. Our food took way too long. After finally taking our order after about 20 minutes of arriving. Food arrived as follows: Miso soups 15 minutes, edamame 20, (at this point we are the only dine in table, 6pm on a Saturday) 3 of our 6 rolls at 30 minutes, seaweed salad at 40 minutes (this is already a prepared item, you just put some in a bowl) then our other rolls arrived at almost 1 hour. We were there for almost 2 hours and it should have been less than one. There were 4 employees and we were the only table for most of our visit. The restaurant was messy, the washroom was dirty and poorly stocked. We will never go here again, we just happened to be in the area.
Warm tap water offered, not tea or ice water. No liquor license. Shrimp in the rolls was overcooked and the tempura looked like...
Read moreAs much as I wanted to like Sushi Sooshimi, it fell a little flat for me. The chef and server were extremely friendly and hospitable, however, the general ambience of the restaurant was a little weird.
Although it is decorated nicely, the lack of ventilation in the kitchen led to quite a smoky scent of deep fried tempura throughout the restaurant. I also found the choice in a rock radio station for music a bit off putting for what is usually a chill sushi environment.
The sushi itself is decent, however, I would urge the chef to relook the design of the spicy fish rolls. The crispy tempura bits in spicy rolls sit on top of the roll and are not well integrated into the roll itself. When you eat the roll, the dry tempura bits are scraping your mouth and falling all over the place since they only sit on top of the roll. I understand crispy is good, but a little bit of moisture would help!
Sushi sooshimi has just opened up recently, so I believe they will learn and grow in time. I will be back in the near future and I hope to be able to update this...
