I struggled with whether I should rate CBH at 2 or 3 stars. We have visited the Mississauga location of The Canadian Brewhouse three times. Our first visit, Feb 7th, was wonderful. Our server was so outgoing, attentive and fun, and the food was fantastic. My husband and I were impressed and couldn't wait to tell all of our friends about the new joint. Our second visit, Family Day, we took our daughter, and it was a disaster. Over 30 mins after we were seated, we had to go look for someone to come visit our table. The hostess told us that the section she sat is in, wasn't "open", so there was no server assigned to us. They were slammed that day, so we tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it was another 20 minutes before someone finally came to our table. We ended up being there nearly 4 hours. It was awful. Our server tried to give us a bill, but after asking to speak to the manager, our bill was comped. Tonight, we decided to give them one more try. We were optimistic since it was quiet inside. Even being as quiet as it was, they seemed to be short staffed. 40 mins after being seated, we still hadn't received our food, so we flagged down our server and she was very apologetic, stating that the kitchen staff were "doing the best they can", and eventually told us that the chit time (time to receive food after ordering) was 40 minutes! We suggested that perhaps they let customers know at the front, so they have the option to stay, or go elsewhere. Please note, we don't blame her for the delays. We just believe that communication would help. The manager eventually came and told us that the cook was "in training" and was doing the best he could. In the time we were there tonight, we witnessed 3 other groups complaining about the wait. Again, communication would have helped.
We're so disappointed, because the food has always been great. The staff, for the most part, have been lovely, and the atmosphere is fun. But the actual service has been lacking, to the point of being unacceptable. Such a shame, and I don't think...
Read moreWe made reservations to watch the Super Bowl here.
Our party included my sister who is 18 years old. At about 9:45 PM our server came and informed us that we needed to leave, since the bar doesn’t allow persons under 19 past 9 PM. They clearly forgot about the rule which is why they told us 45 minutes after 9 PM, but anyway.
A couple of things, this should definitely be made clear when booking a reservation and/or as soon as a party is seated. They knew she was 18 from the get-go because she declined the free Super Bowl drink they were serving and explicitly said it was because she is 18. Being informed beforehand is a much better look than abruptly being told “Sorry but you guys need to leave right now because of a policy that we’re just now informing you of”. That’s obviously going to sour the experience.
Also, your website says “‘minors” so if you’re going to kick out people who are 18 years old you might want to change that to “people under the legal drinking age” because they are not the same thing. The website also says minors allowed until 8 PM, so which is it? 8 PM or 9 PM?
Would’ve liked to visit again when football is back in the fall but after having to stream the remainder of the Super Bowl on a phone in the parking lot, we won’t be returning.
Edited to add that I just saw the owner's response to this review. The way you can improve is by informing parties of your policy when you are seating them. You can also be consistent with your policy - I clearly stated in my review where the inconsistencies lie. A minor is under...
Read moreI’m glad Buffalo Wild Wings is gone. Canadian Brewhouse set a new standard of bar vibes in the GTA. I went there today for the first time. Marina was an excellent server! She was patient, attentive and not pushy. The food was good: the garlic knots, and bread sticks were delicious. I really enjoyed the chicken Alfredo. I added salt, pepper and chili flakes to the pasta which elevated the overall flavour. The beers were ice cold. Haven’t enjoyed beer like that in a while. When my guest left I sat on their unique patio and had wonderful Negronis. The server outside was excellent. Overall this place pays homage to Canada (which I hope they continue to do), provides exceptional service and provides tasty food! Some unique things I noticed: when I was sitting outside management asked if I would like to have the TV channel changed (no one has ever asked me this before) and management approached my guest and I and asked how everything was (I was very happy leaving a tip). These are great small bonuses.
Best part is this is a corporate location with no franchise owner that can cut out on quality. The unique cutlery, napkins, food and ambience is what I will come back for. Also, it was very clean (even the bathroom) (small note: the sofas outside had some crumbs on them, but no big deal). My only concern is that the quality will go down overtime. I hope that since it’s a corporate location, this place will remain consistent in all areas! Great staff. Can’t wait to come back. Drink specials are great and cocktails are reasonably...
