I hate to do this have Ive managed a restaurant for 7 years and know what happens at each level.
We called for a party of 20, ended up being 15 instead. We decided on moxies because of the consistency of their food, but in the situation that was not the case. When our server came over, I suggested taking the order in the way the bill would be split to not only make it easier for the bills when the time came but also keep a tab on who ordered what. A majority of the table was also anticipating the white chocolate brownie.
When the first set of friends ordered she told them she wouldnt be able to split their bills and that she would come back for their desert order. I’ve never heard of not being able to split a check, I mean what would happend if a customer opted to pay half their bill in cash and the other half in credit? Not to mention the first dessert that came out when she finally made her way for the other was missing utensils so we sat as the ice cream melted and brownie went cold as she was no where in sight to follow up, she didnt follow up in general as there were multiple questions, people who wanted additional drinks and items that were not prepared correctly that needed to be rectified. Not 1 table touch was done and infact it felt as though we were being intrusive by asking for anything. The calamari as always, was cooked to perfection. I think the kitchen and cooks are extremely strong. I dont think our server did a good job at communicating with them and Expo. Plates came out 2 at a time with waiting inbetween so by the time everyone had a plate 1/2 the table was done eating, and No it was not busy at all as we arrived after what would have been lunch.
I ordered the chicken madeira rigatoni, extra sauce, extra chicken and an extra baguette. After all these years of going to moxies. I have never paid $8 for extra chicken. At this point lets forget about the money. I had to ask for the extra chicken, sauce and the extra baguette then wait for it to come. My guess is she probably forgot which happens but what was not acceptable was the fact that almost every order had an issue/something missing. My bestfriend sat beside me and after noticing everyone had a plate but her she goes “what did you order again?” And after about 10 mins returned with her steak that was burnt on the outside and not cooked properly which led me to believe it was rushed as it did not look like my Moms steak even though they were both medium rare. There are so many things to talk about who who has time to read such a lengthy review.
Anyways, towards the end, the server did not come and ask about boxes, bills or desserts. As you can imagine, dessert sales are typically the lowest in any restaurant but I’ll put my manager hat aside for a minute for a customer who genuinely wanted dessert even after having a rough dining experience. After requesting my box, we waiting an additional 20-25 mins for bills because she was struggling to seperate them properly. She also did not take the time to inform the table of 18% grat and then mention how to bypass/ add additional amounts on top.
My usual moxies are square one or courtneypark. Im really disappointed to have shared this dining experience with my friends who visit canada often as I don’t believe it did the Brand well and left an experience that would make them want to revisit. It was also Odd to see that a manager did not come over and do a table touch as well. Maybe he was caught up, it happens and I...
Read moreIf you're looking for a great place to go out on a Saturday evening to celebrate a friends birthday...I have the perfect spot for you...ohhh its not here, but if you walk across the parking lot to the Jack Astors, they will welcome you with open arms!
If you do have no choice and end up there they have a very different way of wishing you Happy Birthday. Your servers are sure to run by your table as you are trying to flag them down. The manager is sure to stick his finger in your face and tell you he's busy and a chef will come out of the kitchen because the manager is whining, like our children that we left at home, and tell you to "Get the F out of here, you're not wanted here".
What started out as an evening full of laughs and a great time was ruined by the manager having the servers cut us off after 2 drinks. I asked to speak to them and welcome back the person who stuck his finger in my face. He attempted to explain Ontario legislature and how the Smart Serve training he took made him more educated than me. He explained how its the law that a person can only have 2 ounces of liquor every hour. He was extremely rude, had no professionalism, did absolutely nothing to make you feel welcomed and made everyone feel extremely uncomfortable.
The General Manager ended up coming over and he was pleasant, professional and tried to understand what was happening to rectify the issue. After explaining the situation he seemed shocked that we were cut off and said no one looked to be over served or being a disturbance. He did ask us to stay for more food and drinks however the stares of the manager hiding at the corner of the bar made everyone feel uncomfortable and ultimately...
Read moreEvery dish we had was good and service was excellent. What bothered me a lot was that I overheard some servers talking and one said that she had just had to pay the restaurant (her employer) over $100 out of her pocket to cover the share of tips for the staff in the back. Apparently if customers don't tip the servers at least 17% (which has to be shared with back staff), then the server has to make up the balance. And it doesn't come off their paycheck, servers have to pay it from their wallet in after tax dollars. I thought that was so unfair. Some customers don't tip at all! And they are only paid minimum wage as it is! It ruined my meal. We made sure to tip well (we always do anyway), but that particular girl was not our server. No Christmas spirit for that poor girl! I can't see myself going back there after that. Follow-up: It kept bothering me so I went back to the restaurant and waited outside hoping to speak to one of the servers. I wanted to straighten it out, to make sure I had things right. We didn't get to talk very long, but I did find out that Moxies would be open on Boxing Day. I said that was good because they could make time-and-a-half pay if they were working that day because it was a statutory holiday. She immediately corrected me and said that staff was only getting paid their regular minimum hourly wage that day and were instead being given time off in lieu of extra pay. How is that legal when they all work part time hours because the restaurant doesn't want to pay them benefits? I cannot come back here to eat. It makes me sick to think of how they are treating their workers and I am only enabling management to treat them badly if I am going and giving them...
